Is your works Christmas do going ahead?

Mine is supposed to be on the 17th.. a big gathering with all staff in a hall, food and drinks and dancing and partying. Also casino tables and no doubt a lot of people sharing the same air closely with no masks and lots of contact, hugging etc.

Is this right? I feel uneasy about it and surprised it's not been cancelled yet..

Is yours going ahead/been cancelled?

Thanks.

I was never going to mine - it is on 23rd and as I have an elderly DM I wasn't taking the chance of not being able to see her (nor giving up my 10 days off to stay in the house).Everyone else who was going is still going though.

Peanutmnm · 06/12/2021 16:24

Yep, did it last week. It was a fantastic night with 30 people in a small restaurant. Pre-drinks squished in a teeny tiny pub.

We're 4 days later and so far no sign of any covid with anyone🤞

Purplecatshopaholic · 06/12/2021 16:25

We aren’t having one - it wasn’t even a suggestion really, everyone just assumed it was a bad idea

WeirGirl · 06/12/2021 16:26

No.

Peanutmnm · 06/12/2021 16:33

To be honest, I might feel differently about our party if it was anything much closer to Christmas day.....

wineislife21 · 06/12/2021 16:34

Am I right in thinking that if someone has covid (Omicron only?) at the party, that we'd all have to isolate for 10 days? Leading us to the 27th x

@wineislife21 that’s exactly what I’m thinking…could be alot of Christmases ruined for the sake of one night

AtLeastPretendToCare · 06/12/2021 16:38

Our large event has been cancelled and I’m not surprised.

CointreauVersial · 06/12/2021 17:05

Our company decided not to have an official Christmas Do this year (there are about 40 people in the office), however, 10 of us decided to book a meal out this Thursday independently, and so far, no-one has cancelled.

I shall still go. I'm not fussed if I come down with Covid, tbh, gives me a good excuse to escape Christmas with the ILs. Xmas Grin

Dougieowner · 06/12/2021 17:07

Ours was held last week.
Drinks, meal and then dancing into the night with all drinks, food, transport & accommodation paid for.

Didn't go........

toomuchlaundry · 06/12/2021 17:09

@wineislife21 I would have thought if it was a mingling sort of party rather than just sitting at a table for a meal then leaving then everyone at the party would be pinged, and if Omicron that is a lot of people isolating and having a potentially shit Christmas, all for a party!

2pinkginsplease · 06/12/2021 17:12

We aren’t having an official night out but some of the girls are going out. I’m not. I’d rather spend time with my family than have a night out with work colleagues, my mum and mil are both over 70 so we try to be careful.

Geminijust · 06/12/2021 17:14

14 of us in a restaurant next weekend. No plans to cancel afaik. Looking forward to it.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 06/12/2021 17:15

Yes, can’t wait!

sleepykits · 06/12/2021 17:15

I am a caterer for these type of corporate parties. So far we've done 5 with another 7 to go BUT I just had our first full cancellation with 2 days to go.

Tbh I was surprised we have as many as we've got!

RobinPenguins · 06/12/2021 17:16

Well it hasn’t been cancelled yet! Tbh it’s just some of the team going for dinner and drinks in town which is the sort of things most of us might be doing anyway on a Friday night, it just happens to be work people going together.

slippersockgrey · 06/12/2021 17:29

NHS here - we've been instructed that no face to face Christmas events can take place. There are a lot of unhappy people returning dresses and losing out on deposits. I'm not surprised though.

They haven't even stipulated whether they would prefer this to extend to ALL Christmas events or just work ones. I know what they'd prefer.....

SnowyChristmasWishes · 06/12/2021 17:32

My work one got cancelled but we're going to go for a meal with the immediate team,

My partners went ahead last week with roughly 600 people

Itsbeenalongweek · 06/12/2021 17:39

Ours is happening this Wednesday. Sit down meal for 32. Can't see it being cancelled now. I'm looking forward to it.

toomuchlaundry · 06/12/2021 17:42

DH's main one has just been cancelled, after being told it was still on this morning. As it was a 4 hour round trip and he was driving he isn't too bothered. There would have been in excess of 200 people there, so a sensible decision as far as I am concerned

Bobholll · 06/12/2021 17:43

Ours went ahead on Friday. Was about 70 people at a restaurant with bar/dance floor area. Open bar 🥳😂 it was fab, really enjoyed it!

Not gona lie, I probably wouldn’t be going to one running any later than this week.. the isolation risk is too big! Shame though as it’s lovely to do normal stuff again. It was such a fun evening!

GreenClock · 06/12/2021 17:47

My partner is out with around ten colleagues this week for dinner with entertainment in a pub. It’s going ahead but one person has just tested positive for covid so won’t be going and another awaits the results of a PCR (no symptoms but was at a small gathering on Friday with two people who unknowingly had it).

twocandlelady · 06/12/2021 17:49

Ours is this week and no talk of cancelling!

psychomath · 06/12/2021 17:51

Still going ahead on Friday. It's not officially organised by work though - we're going to a public event at a nightclub that one of the middle managers sorted group tickets for - so I'm not sure they could really cancel as such, only recommend that we don't go. To be honest I'm not even sure they could do that, seeing as people have paid for tickets - as it's a school they presumably aren't allowed to hand out cash to reimburse people. Probably just praying they don't end up with half the staff getting pinged!

StampOnTheGround · 06/12/2021 17:52

Ours is going ahead
