I'm happy masks are back !

I mean, of course I would rather the pandemic was completely over. But whilst cases are high, I'm happy they're back. I never stopped wearing mine.

And now I'm more comfortable going into shops with my unmasked DD. Feels a bit safer for her. She's too young to wear a mask.

Good for you 👍🏽

saltedcaramel1 · 29/11/2021 16:35

@Whatwouldscullydo

Shall we give surgeons one in that state and see what the infection rates are after ?

Oh and unless there are a large subset of humans who have gills or breathe through their ears I doubt the mask is doing much, hanging from the ears, on my shop floor, being worn under the nose or top lip or chin.

Surgeons aren't wearing them to prevent airbourne transmission of a virus.

It's to prevent bacterial infection of surgical wouds which is a totally different, and much higher risk, scenario

MLMshouldbeillegal · 29/11/2021 16:42

People don't wear them properly 90% of people don't wear them properly I'd guess

Anyone got a full house on mask bingo yet?

Gwrach · 29/11/2021 16:46

Look I'm not against them, I wear one all day in work and being in Wales have had to continue to wear one. But they aren't the saving grace people make them out to be. Like a mask is the baby Jesus and saviour of the pandemic.

Also I keep an emergency mask in my handbag, a cloth one, I'll be honest it's never been washed, spends it life in the bottom of my handbag and now and again I have to grab it and put it on to comply, I can assure you that mask isn't saving anyone from anything when I have it on 🤷🏻‍♀️

i think I've got at least a line. Grin National game next?

90% is a very large amount of people. Maybe it's regional. Everyone seems to manage this complicated mask wearing business in my neck of the woods. Maybe I'm in the 10% area?

Cosmoz · 29/11/2021 17:09

Why would anyone be “glad” about having to wear a face mask? I’m technically exempt yet I wore one from the beginning but only because I feared getting abuse from people not because I believed they made a scrap of difference. This time around though I will not be wearing one and god help anyone who asks me what my reasons are for not doing so. I’m happy to tell people that I’m exempt but I’m not about to disclose personal details as to why I’m exempt.

southeastdweller · 29/11/2021 17:18

That's great for you. Personally I find it dehumanising to talk to people who wear them and I won't be bothering putting one on, haven't since July 18th and yes stores and the like can't do jack to enforce it.

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2021 17:22

Somebody started a 'I'm sad masks are back' thread today so I guess we can pick a team.

#Team I have to wear one all day every day for work anyway so no point whining about it.

TheVampiresWife · 29/11/2021 17:29

@MLMshouldbeillegal we need to add doctors wear them for 12 hour shifts, you can wear one for five minutes in Sainsbury's/would you be happy to have a surgeon operate on you without a mask/nobody who works for the NHS is exempt to the bingo card Grin

It was deleted - obviously not allowed to voice an alternative opinion, at least not on the post title itself. It wasn’t my post, but I’m in that team.

@firef1y - on the subject of eye contact, have you tried looking at a spot directly above the eyes? Sort of high eyelid area? People remark on my impressive grasp of eye contact (because I couldn't possibly be autistic due to that, right? 🙄😉), but I'm really either looking above their eyes, or straight through them 😉 I really wish society would back off on the 'look at me' directive, it's incredibly unhelpful.

And for anyone who had mentioned glasses steaming up, search for something called an anti-fog mask clip. There's a few places/people selling them - basically 3d printed plastic clips that slide on to a mask, which give a closer fit around the nose than the typical nose wires do. I use one whenever I have to wear a mask longer than a few minutes, and they stop my glasses fogging up. I can recommend a seller if wanted, but didn't want it to look like an advert 😂

And whoever it was that made the patronising comment about people saying masks are warm, asking if people had ever heard of a scarf, actually there's many reasons some people may not be able to wear or tolerate scarves, especially over their mouths - most obviously sensory issues, or previous trauma. Not unlike the reason many can't wear a mask and ask people to be more understanding and sensitive.

Your child might be too young to wear a mask but what about the kids masked up all day at school?

The deletion message said something along the lines of these threads always go badly so nipping it in the bud.

Wondered why I couldn't find it, I guess it descended into a bunfight or there were some dubious scientific 'facts' being posted.

Knownbyanothername · 29/11/2021 18:05

Scotland didn’t stop wearing masks and it made no difference to the infection rate, at one point it was higher than England.
Once they are wet from your breath they don’t work anyway so you should be changing it every 30mins.
Someone made a good point on the radio this morning- if masks are so effective at catching the virus why aren’t used ones classed as hazardous waste?

They are in a lot of workplaces. We have special bins.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/11/2021 18:11

We have to put ours in a plastic bag and then in a special bin. I usually wear fabric ones but if I don't I take them home and put them in my own bin - less plastic.

Againstmachine · 29/11/2021 18:24

And people said we were lieing when we said people were happy about wearing masks.

Againstmachine · 29/11/2021 18:26

Imagine how scary it must be for a CEV person to go on a bus or in to a shop and face maskless, gormless fuckers.

And the insults start.

How scary it must be for people to meet others with a disgusting attitude.

TheVampiresWife · 29/11/2021 18:35

@Skinnytailedsquirrel

I'm pleased the masking rule is back too OP. It should never have been stopped as so many people can not be trusted to act in the best interests.

Imagine how scary it must be for a CEV person to go on a bus or in to a shop and face maskless, gormless fuckers.

I'm CV and I'm a 'maskless, gormless fucker' due to a separate condition. I terrify myself on a regular basis.

(You're even more terrifying, though.)

What I really like it how after 20 months of a global pandemic, what we've achieved is how kind and tolerant everyone is of each other... Hmm
