I'm happy masks are back !

I mean, of course I would rather the pandemic was completely over. But whilst cases are high, I'm happy they're back. I never stopped wearing mine.

And now I'm more comfortable going into shops with my unmasked DD. Feels a bit safer for her. She's too young to wear a mask.

"Safe" is such a weird concept though. Remember the woman who shielded for months then was knocked over and killed in car park as she was putting her mask on?

How did that happen? Was she standing in the middle of the road? Tell me more.

DumplingsAndStew · 29/11/2021 11:00

@HesterShaw1

we do feel that bit more safe when as many as possible do.

Don't be ridiculous, being knocked over isn't generally a risk factor in wearing a mask 🙄

You know perfectly well what I meant.

I am mostly resigned. I agree masks make things safer (and I have been wearing mine in the shops throughout the year), but it's a pain in the arse for deaf lipreaders like myself. I much prefer the perspex visors as I can have a stab at what people are saying.

DumplingsAndStew · 29/11/2021 11:04

@Sparklingbrook

She was fiddling in her bag with a tangled mask and stepped out into the road (not car park as far as I read) into the path of a reversing lorry. It was a tragic accid3nt where a woman lost her life, and a really low move for someone to use it as part of their anti-mask agenda.

Yes my DF struggles, he's deaf in one ear and he hates the masks.

Here you go @Sparklingbrook

@DumplingsAndStew I don't think I am being ridiculous at all. People have become so obsessed with Covid being the only risk in their life they have forgotten about all the other risks we used to run on a daily basis.

Ah right so it was a 'fiddling in the bag' and not looking type accident rather than directly mask related. Could have been fiddling for purse/phone or whatever.

CarrieBlue · 29/11/2021 11:08

I haven’t stopped wearing one. It’ll be nice to see people protecting me again like I’ve been protecting them though.

I'm enjoying wearing mine today as it's freezing out there and it's keeping my nose warm.

HesterShaw1 · 29/11/2021 11:09

And I'm not using it as part of an anti mask agenda. People can do what they want.

However it's become so tiresome doing things like one way systems in service stations, and walking to a toilet in a pub wearing a mask, while you can chat and drink at tables without one - two small examples of something that are of no perceivable benefit whatsoever - so that some people can feel "safer".

And my point was actually nothing to do with masks. It was to do with the risks that we run every day and which can easily finish us off in an instant, which we don't normally fret about making us "feel unsafe".

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2021 11:29

It's a very sad story but it was the 'she stepped into the road without looking' that resulted in the tragedy ultimately.

You think people have forgotten about road safety because they are wearing masks? That's a big jump.

Just to reassure you, my daughter - who can't wear a mask - is at zero risk of being so engrossed with untangling a mask in her non-existent handbag that she steps into the path of a moving vehicle. So phew.

DumplingsAndStew · 29/11/2021 11:36

Then why on earth did you - selectively - quote part of my comment, which was about mask wearing, on a thread about mask wearing, when your 'point' was nothing to do with mask wearing?

Yes! I want a micro fleece one.
xxxGirlCrushxxx · 29/11/2021 11:36

Makes little difference they are 'back'

The public didn't really comply last time and this time round many more are suddenly exempt

DumplingsAndStew · 29/11/2021 11:37

And do you really believe noone frets about other dangers, such as moving vehicles, anymore? Or normally worry about road safety? Really?

DillDanding · 29/11/2021 11:38

I’m not thrilled to be back to mask wearing. Just don’t like wearing them.

But we have to suck it up. I’ll do my shopping online which is preferable anyway.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 29/11/2021 11:40

Nobody wears them properly anyway, will just ba a half asses attempt

Stores can't enforce it either

LegoPandemic · 29/11/2021 11:41

Happy is a bit strong. None of the Covid shitshow makes me happy.
Glad that we’re finally being sensible - yes.
This too shall pass- eventually!

firef1y · 29/11/2021 11:42

That's nice for you.
Me I'm looking forward to the glares, tuts and under the breath comments. Along with the outloud comments on how I don't look like I'm exempt. Why am I exempt anyway. Don't look like have autism. Have I tried wearing a face shield. Have I tried desensitisation. If only you try a bit harder I'm sure you can manage. Stay at home if you can't wear a mask.

Then there's not being able to understand what people are saying to me because I struggle to separate a single voice out of many even without masks. Plus the anxiety of being forced to look in someone's eyes because that's the only part of the face I can see (and I know it's good manners to at least appear as if I'm looking at someone who is talking to me).

But as long as you're happy people like me can continue to suffer

MarshaBradyo · 29/11/2021 11:42

I don’t really care if they are or not

I look forward to not needing them but have worn them anyway on PT in London and many shops / museums ask for it

Mixed reaction - initially fine, then gngng more if this, now ok I’ll just keep wearing it

I’m not actively happy about it though as pp

TheVampiresWife · 29/11/2021 11:43

@XenoBitch

Great. Time to get my lanyard and card out again, and worry about getting abuse from the self appointed mask police.
