I'm happy masks are back !

I mean, of course I would rather the pandemic was completely over. But whilst cases are high, I'm happy they're back. I never stopped wearing mine.

And now I'm more comfortable going into shops with my unmasked DD. Feels a bit safer for her. She's too young to wear a mask.

No one's too young.

No exceptions, everyone MUST wear a mask.

Doesn't matter what you say, it's never a good enough reason and you're probably making it up!!!

Too young? Why? Don't be ridiculous !!!

southeastdweller · 30/11/2021 18:16

I was in about eight shops today and nobody challenged me or the other people not wearing the coverings. Why would you when your only earn £9.50 an hour?!

This mandate is pointless!

I've just been to Waitrose, I didn't see anyone without a mask, staff or customers. I was pleasantly surprised.

That is refreshing
vodkaredbullgirl · 30/11/2021 18:26

Went to Asda, plenty of people wearing masks.

southeastdweller · 30/11/2021 18:30

Good grief, mnhq are going a bit ott with the deletions!

southeastdweller · 30/11/2021 18:32

No exceptions, everyone MUST wear a mask.

You’re wrong.

Is that better?

I was being sarcastic

Using the hysterical/testerical tone of people who seem to police others with such relish

And I didn't report you if that's what you're saying, I replied to you (which has also been deleted)

southeastdweller · 30/11/2021 18:51

Oh I see, sorry, long day!

Sayke · 30/11/2021 18:53

No worries, I'm not sure sarcasm translates well on an internet forum!

Againstmachine · 30/11/2021 19:00

*His new song - 'wearing a mask is like trying to keep a fart in your trousers’... Erm, I'd hope so in public, Piers.

I mean, seriously. Does he pull down his trousers (and pants?) and bare his arse to let rip in public? confused*

Well seeing as we had the stupid urine and trousers ones to encourage people to wear masks that made no sense, he is allowed.

I said something tongue in cheek yesterday and got into all sorts of trouble. Grin

@Tealightsandd

Masks are purely totemic at this stage, make people feel safe, like prayer beads.

Wrong. Expert opinion varies on the extent of protection but generally the consensus is that they do make a difference. How much depends on several factors. Including type of mask, how and when it's worn, and what other mitigations are in place alongside.

Just like making a cake, each individual ingredient has a part to play.

Separately, health is holistic. Physical and psychological health is interlinked. Feeling safer reduces stress... which reduces inflammation... Lower inflammation, stronger immune system.

And, masks work two ways. First to protect the wearer (how much is contested but it definitely gives some protection) - but equally as important (and too often dismissed by the anti maskers) is that masks protect others. Including the most vulnerable.

Believe me I want to believe that masks help but I have trawled online, and I have read various studies and papers on this and the best protection that I can see claimed is for around 10% and that's based on so many factors and variables as to be almost impossible to apply to every scenario - it seems just too vague and unscientific to be able to confirm to me any real benefit.

If you or anyone can link me to to a clear unequivocal study that proves a definable and calculable benefit then please link and I will certainly read it.

I'm so pleased for you OP. I on the other hand am very annoyed about it

Sayke · 30/11/2021 20:19

@Sparklingbrook
It's a minefield.

I think I need to learn forum speak to be honest, I forget I have a warped sense of humour...

I went to Home Bargains….70% massless

But no…there’s definitely not middle class virtue signalling going on with mask wearing

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2021 20:37

I'm going to HB in the morning @hamstersarse, same town as Waitrose. Will see how it is there. Generally around here people have worn masks though, even when they were't compulsory.

genuinequestion21 · 30/11/2021 22:17

I just want to say that I wear a mask, to protect ME. I'm happy masks are back, as I'll be protected even more and so will my daughter.

I honestly don't care about whether anyone else chooses to wear a mask. Good for them, if they're not as anxious about catching covid as I am. It actually makes me happy to see people out and about maskless.

It's not virtue signaling. I'm completely selfish with the mask thing.

I don't judge people who don'tseeing as we are in the situation we are in, I feel a bit safer for my daughter.

Dd said no one was wearing one in her school at all. Neither school nor college. They were told too, masks even given out to students but unfortunately no one did.

I have a feeling that you could be sent all the sources in the world and you still wouldn't change your mind. How about sit on the train with a bare face right next to a coughing, snotty person who also doesn't have a face mask on for at least 15 minutes? Report back in 10 days.

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2021 06:40

I agree @Dishhh I think some people are not to be swayed regardless.

chaosrabbitland · 01/12/2021 06:46

well i work in retail and im not going to wear one again , just got an exemption lanyard instead and i certainly wont be challenging anyone who does come in the shop without one and there have been a few without

ElectraBlue · 01/12/2021 06:51

yeah because masks worked so well in Scotland or the EU where compliance was much higher...not.
