I'm happy masks are back !

I mean, of course I would rather the pandemic was completely over. But whilst cases are high, I'm happy they're back. I never stopped wearing mine.

And now I'm more comfortable going into shops with my unmasked DD. Feels a bit safer for her. She's too young to wear a mask.

I feel the same. Shops have been getting so much busier and it hasn't felt safe. Yes those who want to be are vaccinated so it's safer than this time last year but none of us know if we will be one of the unlucky ones. Or we will pick it up and pass it on to one of the unlucky ones.

Vaccination is a fantastic protective factor against covid but it is not 100% effective. It's good to be taking precautions against the new variant until we know more about it.

I for one never stopped wearing it in shops and buses. I don't like wearing it and it's bad for my skin. But I'd rather have shit skin than potentially die or have life long covid related problems.

Wormsarecool · 29/11/2021 10:02

I agree completely

HesterShaw1 · 29/11/2021 10:07

That's nice.

Remmy123 · 29/11/2021 10:11

Good for you!!!!

Glad you have shared that with the world 👏

MrsWooster · 29/11/2021 10:15

Exemptions aside, a mask seems a VERY small price to pay for potentially protecting each other.
I knows it’s not aibu, but yanbu!

TheVampiresWife · 29/11/2021 10:18

And with the return of masks comes the return of the mask threads Grin

Kitkat151 · 29/11/2021 10:20

It’s fine by me too😁

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2021 10:20

I think a lot of people feel the same TBH.

There's also people who have worn a mask throughout anyway so they're not 'back' for them it's just that others will be joining them (or not if threads on MN are anything to go by).

There was a lot of moaning on social media about retail staff not wearing them when they stopped being compulsory so presumably those people will be happy now.

crosbystillsandmash · 29/11/2021 10:21

Op did you wear a mask, pre covid, to protect yourself from flu every year?
Thought not.

Absolutely tiresome now.

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2021 10:22

@TheVampiresWife

It's MN Mask thread bingo time again. Eyes down, dabber out. Grin Special prizes for key words.
poshme · 29/11/2021 10:23

I'm not. I struggle to understand what people Are saying (hearing issues).
I struggle to see properly (glasses steam up)
I hate masks.

genuinequestion21 · 29/11/2021 10:25

I really didn't mind that other people weren't wearing them.

I can protect myself by wearing a good one, but my DD can't.

If I had my way, no one would need to wear one and the choice would be completely YOUR OWN. But seeing as cases are high, it's not such a bad thing right now

Great. Time to get my lanyard and card out again, and worry about getting abuse from the self appointed mask police.

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2021 10:28

Well anyone not wanting to wear one just because has all day today to go around all the shops and take lots of train rides without one on while they still can.

Whatwouldscullydo · 29/11/2021 10:30

Speak for yourself. I'm glad you aren't in the position of potentially about to receive abuse from any customer who doest want to wear one. They don't pay shop workers enough for this shit.

Glad your happy though even though there was nothing stopping u wearing a mask the whole time anyway.

crosbystillsandmash · 29/11/2021 10:33

What a ridiculous and pointless post 🙄 Because obviously folk that don't want to wear masks haven't got anything better to do than ride around on trains for no reason.

Try harder next time dear!!

DH has the same problem. He really struggles to hear when people are wearing masks. If I'm with him I repeat everything he can't hear so I'm sure people think I'm a pushy mare who won't let him speak for himself!

Back pedalling because you've realised you look sound ridiculous? GrinGrin
DottyHarmer · 29/11/2021 10:49

It’s such a silly thing to say that no one used to wear a mask. No one used to wear a seatbelt. Pregnant women would drink alcohol. People used to throw their chamber pots out of their windows. Public health messages and norms evolve. This one has evolved a bit quicker, but if it is of even minor benefit, then I’m in.

Underparmummy · 29/11/2021 10:52

Im not really bothered about wearing a mask BUT also struggle to hear, I guess I have always lipread much more than I realised.

DumplingsAndStew · 29/11/2021 10:55

I agree with you OP. My young teen can't wear a mask, and we do feel that bit more safe when as many as possible do.

I'm really surprised at the vitriol from those who are exempt. I would have thought they'd be pleased and feel that bit more safe if others who could wear a mask were wearing them Confused

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2021 10:55

No (dear) it was tongue in cheek sorry you didn't see it. Although TBF there might be a few doing their shopping today while the masks aren't compulsory.

Obsidiansphere · 29/11/2021 10:57

I agree. We’ve continued wearing ours.
