I'm happy masks are back !

I mean, of course I would rather the pandemic was completely over. But whilst cases are high, I'm happy they're back. I never stopped wearing mine.

And now I'm more comfortable going into shops with my unmasked DD. Feels a bit safer for her. She's too young to wear a mask.

@xxxGirlCrushxxx

Tatty bit of ETSY floral fabric
No, just tatty bit of fabric. And that fabric must be 'grubby' and already been used a thousand times before for the Bingo win.
xxxGirlCrushxxx · 29/11/2021 12:21

Well I'm watching Nicola Sturgeon right now, going into detail, telling us to stick up on tests etc she seems outraged their are now multiple cases in Scotland!

She is very believable... I'd listen to her. Be interesting to see Boris next move, if he bothers

Why? They don't do anything. All the places where mask wearing has been compulsory and have never stopped their use, have had the highest ongoing cases. The only reason why Boris has reintroduced them in certain places is so he can be seen to be doing something. This is never going to end.
Anoisagusaris · 29/11/2021 12:23

We never stopped wearing masks in Ireland and funnily enough we haven’t seen a massive rise in road deaths…..you can wear a mask and still be conscious of road safety 😆

Conversely, we never stopped wearing masks in Scotland and it's impossible to separate our pattern of infection with England.
larry5 · 29/11/2021 12:28

I have been wearing masks in shops and on public transport anyway but I discovered another benefit this morning and that is that masks keep your face warmer. Mind you they do seem to steam up my glasses but you can't have everything.

musicviking1 · 29/11/2021 12:32

Good for you. I still won't be wearing mine.

QueenofKattegat · 29/11/2021 12:34

So glad that you're happy OP. Happy enough to start a thread and invite all the usual comments.

I personally can't wait to go back to explaining my personal medical history to complete strangers who think they have a right to know so they can "feel safe".

QueenofKattegat · 29/11/2021 12:35

All the "masks keep my face warm" disingenuous bollocks is just beyond tiresome. Have you people not heard of a scarf? Have a day off eh.

Mincepiepoptarts · 29/11/2021 12:40

What a bizarre thing to be happy about.

Still won’t be wearing one.

So there are multiple more cases in Scotland which has had mask mandates all along. If something isn't working, the best solution is obviously to double down on it Confused.

She is outraged because until this morning she was all set to crow that her Scottish mask mandate was paying off, and then she couldn't.
Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2021 12:46

I'm not sure Boris listens to Nicola does he? I don't believe it's like a game of chess, her move then his move.

BunsyGirl · 29/11/2021 12:54

I got abuse for not wearing one yesterday and the requirement to wear one hasn’t come into force yet. I am exempt and will be using my exemption this time. I’m not prepared to make myself ill to protect other people.

genuinequestion21 · 29/11/2021 12:55

If I didn't have a small DD who can't wear one, I honestly would not care.

Like I said upthread, I would much rather it was a choice. You want to wear one, you do. You don't want to, you don't. Like it was.

But with a small one, they can't really wear them. So I feel just a little bit better and comfortable to take her to the shops. I've avoided it entirely since the summer. But she really likes to go out and look around at things, so I'll be happier to take her now.

That's all.

To be honest, a fair percentage of us in Scotland don't pay any attention to her either.
Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2021 12:58

@MLMshouldbeillegal I was wondering why she was being lauded as the one to listen to TBF. Grin

HelplesslyHoping · 29/11/2021 12:58

I'm thrilled they're back, and hope they stay for a while. It's interesting that there are very few other countries with so many mask exempt people...

Delatron · 29/11/2021 13:01

Oh I can’t wait for the numbers of cases to drop sharply now that the magic masks are back...

How clever of the virus to only hang out in shops where people don’t spend that long and they tend to be well ventilated.

Public transport I think is fine but won’t have a huge impact overall.

Do we not have to put one on while we walk in to a pub (but then take it off when we sit down?) that
was very effective.

I’m pleased that some people feel ‘safer’ though.

You do know the government want to just be seen as doing something? Half arsed measures won’t really do much.

I’m not particularly anti mask but I find the opinion that they are the solution to all our problems with Covid utterly bizarre.

It’s vaccines and boosters that will make the difference. The focus should be on that now.

I don’t actually think there’s any point in shutting the borders now either. There’ll be thousands of cases here already. But the press will have a field day giving us a very scary running total every day. Which means nothing until we actually have the facts about this new variant.

Lindy2 · 29/11/2021 13:04

Mask wearing in crowded places seems like such a simple precaution to take.

It's not difficult for the vast majority of the adult population to do - regardless of what some may think.

I think it should have stayed in place even when the other restrictions were lifted.

MarshaBradyo · 29/11/2021 13:05

@MLMshouldbeillegal

It's MN Mask thread bingo time again. Eyes down, dabber out. grin Special prizes for key words.

Selfish

Anti-maskers

If you don't like a mask you'd hate a ventilator

Didn't look disabled

I have asthma and I can wear one

If you won't wear a mask then just stay at home

I'm not doing it to protect myself, but to protect others

Can you wear a face visor?

I don't believe X% of people were exempt anyway

In Spain/Italy/other random country everyone wears masks and nobody complains

Dangling on their chin

Disposables littering the street

Think that's about everything, have I missed anything to be added to the MN covid mask bingo card? We've never ditched the mask mandate in Scotland so it's same old same old here. Most people wear them, some don't, find it very difficult to get wound up about people who choose not to to be honest.

Children are fine in other countries what’s wrong with British children. Snowflakes

Fishing old cloth out of bottom of bag

It’s depressing enough without this Grin
TicTacHoh · 29/11/2021 13:06

They'rerequired in supermarkets and trains etc but not pubs and restaurants, theatres or cinemas. It's a waste of time. Either they work, or they don't, they can't just magically work in some settings, and not others. I don't think compliance will be anything like before.

Lindy2 · 29/11/2021 13:06

That made me laugh. 😂
