Utterly fed up (covid)

ExpectingLady93 · 29/11/2021 08:13

I'm totally fed up. I don't doubt for a second everyone else is. It's now been a couple of years, we've had our jabs... just doesn't seem to be putting us back to normal like we were 'promised'?

It still doesn't seem to change the fact that there is now a new variant and they are not 'ruling' out another lockdown, and right before Christmas also. I worry for my friends and family (and everyone else). My parents are getting on a bit and I think it would break my mums heart if they put us into lockdown again before Christmas like last year.....

How is everyone else feeling?

It’s such a lazy argument.

You find those that support endless harmful restrictions pop on to threads like this and throw in a few:

‘Let the bodies pile high’.

‘The NHS will crumble’

‘Selfish idiots with their indoor Christmas mixing’

Yet they don’t own their views. They don’t come on and say they want more restrictions as they know that won’t go down well. They just throw in a few choice phrases.

If you support a reintroduction of lockdown and more measures at least have the guts to own that. And say how that will work and admit what the impact will be. Stop skirting around the issue and stop calling people selfish when they are not breaking any laws.

I will at least have the guts to come out and say what I believe in and defend why.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 29/11/2021 16:37

I agree wholeheartedly with @Delatron. I cannot live my life or expect my DS to live his life like this any more. This is not what I want for my DS for the future. My elderly parents and PIL no longer stay home and have zero intent of doing so as it is no life for them either and they would rather take their chances with Covid now they have been tripled jagged.

Problem is no government admitted at the start some deaths would be unavoidable and now have to be seen to be 'keeping everyone safe'. To what end, at what cost, for how long?

I have not once been ashamed for my views or skirted around them. I fully support any restrictions necessary, that is very clear from my posts. I don't want lockdowns but I don't want people dying from a virus when it's preventable. For now, I think people should wear masks, WFH if possible and limit contact. You don't need to cram into a flat with 6 people without opening a few windows. It's cold sure, but surely being cold for a couple of hours is better than covid?

You can be selfish without breaking laws. Honestly, wtf?

Unlike the people who are against any restrictions, I have the guts to admit what I think is best. Not once seen any of the "let's just get on with it now"-crew admit that they simply don't give a fuck about people dying.

I do think we have reached our limit though. I won't budge, you won't budge. I'm right and you aren't. You think it's the other way. Why keep going?

TomelettewithGreggs · 29/11/2021 16:52

@JesusIsAnyNameFree I will likely be doing all the things you suggest- I do not celebrate Xmas and do not have family in this country-but I cannot in all conscience suggest other people should do these things. I can see mental health crumbling all around me ,not least my own. The most I expect of people now is to get vaxxed.

Delatron · 29/11/2021 17:14

Yes @JesusIsAnyNameFree we don’t agree.

I don’t know anyone in real life who will self impose a rule of 6 when it’s not the law. Or avoid socialising with family. Even my vulnerable FIL who was very cautious. We will all have had 3 jabs by Christmas.
I think most people have had enough. That doesn’t make anyone selfish.

I’ve just had Covid in my house. Asymptomatic child. So I won’t be shivering with windows open. If guests want windows open then I will open them sure.

For those that want to carry on placing restrictions on themselves then fine.

I will fully comply with mask wearing and I will get my booster.

I didn't even think of the rule of 6. I pulled a comfortable friendship sized group out of my arse there.
Delatron · 29/11/2021 17:23

You want people to ‘limit contact’

Like that’s just nothing. Humans need social interaction. What even is ‘limiting contact’? Spell out what this is and how long for and what is your end goal?

Until we have lower cases? Well it’s hospitalisations and deaths that we’re looking at now.

Until everyone had 3 jabs? Well that will happen very soon so pointless to limit contact until then.

Delatron · 29/11/2021 17:25

But you want people to limit contact? So 6 in a flat is unnecessary? How many is acceptable in a house?

Are parties allowed under your regime or should these all be cancelled?

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2021 17:28

@Delatron I cannot believe you are thinking of parties in a global pandemic!!

Delatron · 29/11/2021 17:28

@ADreadedSunnyDay yes it’s the poor kids that have suffered the most through this. For a virus that is mainly mild for them. They won’t get these last two years back.

I think most elderly people want to make the most of their lives now and spend time with grandchildren.

Delatron · 29/11/2021 17:30

@WouldBeGood oh no, I didn’t realise they weren’t allowed!

Better tell my friends. They clearly didn’t see the new restrictions.

Delatron · 29/11/2021 17:31

I’m not thinking of parties. I’ve been invited to two and I can’t bloody wait after the last two years.

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2021 17:33

I had a proper night in the pub the other week, with the obligatory drunk dancing and hugs from randoms and it was great. Even though I hate hugs

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 29/11/2021 17:34

I'm pissed off. Have been teaching year R wearing a mask all day as per guidance. Teaching phonics is a joke. Classroom is 8 degrees. 18 members off staff I think off with covid or isolating. Absolute carnage.

Delatron · 29/11/2021 17:34

Ah that sounds wonderful @WouldBeGood can’t wait for drunk kitchen dancing!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/11/2021 17:37

I'll wear my mask but I'm not limiting my contacts, no way. I went to an indoor gig on Friday with hundreds of people. Amazing atmosphere. My first one since the pandemic started.

Was it The Offspring?
curlymom · 29/11/2021 18:32

I work in a school. Have just been told staff and students mask. Meetings and assemblies no longer face to face. It’s happening

Where is this guidance? I thought DofE guidance was no masks for teachers in primary schools?
Wizzbangfizz · 29/11/2021 18:43

Totally with you @Delatron

My thoughts are with the hospitality who must be absolutely besides themselves at this latest round of scaremongering given they will lose trade for another Christmas when they are barely clinging on as it is.

HereticFanjo · 29/11/2021 18:45

I'm with you OP. Today so many people around me seem to be testing positive including close contacts. Juggling work and homeschooling is looming, it's dark, I never want to cook another fucking meal again for my bastard ingrate family. Oh and in case you can't tell I'm peri menopausal and descending into my monthly pmt hell.

So, covid can fuck the fuck off along with every other irritating fucker in my life.

That was quite therapeutic 😌

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 29/11/2021 19:02

@LittleBearPad masks in communal areas Inc classrooms

Not in primary schools.

LittleBearPad · 29/11/2021 19:37

Or at least not in England.

Feel exactly this way myself. I am not doing parties but I will be damned if I am going to stop going to restaurants or West End plays. I can't get through another winter with just DH and DS; I will have a breakdown. We are all vaxxed up the wazoo.
