Utterly fed up (covid)

I'm totally fed up. I don't doubt for a second everyone else is. It's now been a couple of years, we've had our jabs... just doesn't seem to be putting us back to normal like we were 'promised'?

It still doesn't seem to change the fact that there is now a new variant and they are not 'ruling' out another lockdown, and right before Christmas also. I worry for my friends and family (and everyone else). My parents are getting on a bit and I think it would break my mums heart if they put us into lockdown again before Christmas like last year.....

How is everyone else feeling?

Anyome who believed him when he said there would be no more restrictions was naive, but i think the government and health advisors recognise there wouldn't be compliance with a christmas lockdown this year in the way there was last year.

hangrylady · 29/11/2021 08:17

I'll be seeing my family this year lockdown or not. I'm double vaccinated, so are they plus booster. I've followed the rules so far but not this time if there's another lockdown.

genuinequestion21 · 29/11/2021 08:19

Just live your life every day. Even if there is a Christmas lockdown or whatever, you can do what you want. I think most people won't let that deter them from seeing their families like last year.

They always said winter would be challenging and masks may need to be reintroduced. It's not surprising. But no need to lose all hope just yet over all of it.

Lavender24 · 29/11/2021 08:23

Yep I'm fed up and that's why I'm not complying.

Palavah · 29/11/2021 08:25

Masks are hardly a hardship for the majority of people. Not complying with that is just being contrary.

Fairylights25 · 29/11/2021 08:32

I don't think for a minute we will be in any kind of lockdown for Christmas, so I am feeling okay. A mask in shops won't kill us, and apart from that everything will carry on as normal.

The variant may turn out to be nothing op, it might help if you took a day at a time and don't worry in advance about things that are yet to happen. Make the most of the time we have now to enjoy life, if anything this news has made me feel more determined to make the most of it!

Nimchinge · 29/11/2021 08:33

The UK lockdowns weren't exactly restrictive though were they?

FlickerBeat · 29/11/2021 08:35

@Nimchinge

The UK lockdowns weren't exactly restrictive though were they?
Oh, get real.
Nimchinge · 29/11/2021 08:36

Well they weren't. And now all that's being asked is you wear masks indoors. I mean...come on. It's what the rest of the world has been doing for a year 🤷‍♀️

Wowthisisreal · 29/11/2021 08:37

@Nimchinge

Huh?! How was our lockdown NOT restrictive?
TreborBore · 29/11/2021 08:39

I doubt they will put us back into lockdown, that would be ridiculous when they have been so lax with the softer measures.

Nimchinge · 29/11/2021 08:41

@Wowthisisreal
Weren't you allowed to bubble up with other households and socialise outside?

Fairylights25 · 29/11/2021 08:42

I am going to make a bold promise. We will ALL be celebrating Christmas with family as normal this year. It might be with the encouragement of using LFT before meeting, but I do feel we will have a great Christmas this year.

We can hardly complain looking at Austria. Everything here is open and is really good fun this year!

Wannakisstheteacher · 29/11/2021 08:43

I’ve reached my limit. Why do I now need to quarantine for 2 days when I’ve had the vaccine, which I didn’t want? Now a booster too? No way. There comes a point when you, surely, just say I can’t live like this anymore. All 3 of my children have had school closures or periods of isolation since September. None of them have been ill at all. Why is their education still being made to suffer?

WheelieBinPrincess · 29/11/2021 08:44

What was not restrictive about not being able to see your family, @Nimchinge?

I found that pretty restrictive. I also found being pregnant and not being able to have my DH at scans restrictive despite being nervous after a previous loss. I found living in a flat with no outside space restrictive. I found cancelling countless trips and family visits restrictive because they involved travelling outside my area.

Wtf is not restrictive about that?

gannett · 29/11/2021 08:45

Don't know why anyone was expecting a return to normal in the sense of being able to completely forget about Covid. This year was a huge step forward but the pandemic has still been going on. New variants were always on the cards. Vaccines weren't a magic bullet that would end it all just like that (especially with vaccination inequality across the world).

I don't think we can (or should) forget about Covid for a while yet, just as we don't forget about STDs and therefore practice safe sex. But the hope is obviously that taking extremely non-onerous precautions like masks and vaccines will stave off a repeat of 2020.

Gerlais · 29/11/2021 08:45

I just don’t understand it. They have said the symptoms for the new variant tend to be mild - so why the panic?

I’m double vaccinated and have no issues wearing a mask … nor do I socialise much anyway so my life is largely unaffected by restrictions but still … something doesn’t add up about the whole thing and it is getting tiresome

WheelieBinPrincess · 29/11/2021 08:46

@Gerlais they have to put the willies up people to get a general level of compliance.

Blueberry40 · 29/11/2021 08:47

@Nimchinge

The UK lockdowns weren't exactly restrictive though were they?
I agree @Nimchinge- the UK lockdowns have been nowhere near as restrictive as many other countries where people have been wearing masks everywhere throughout and where restrictions were properly enforced.

Having a limit on how many people you can mix with indoors (which I imagine would be what people will be asked to do over Christmas if things get worse) and wearing masks in shops and on public transport can hardly be considered a lockdown.

Wowthisisreal · 29/11/2021 08:47

@Nimchinge no, not during our first lockdown. I think bubbles were introduced in second lockdown (?) but I didn't qualify for one. The 'third' lockdown we were allowed to socialise outside but it was also a very long before restrictions ended - longer than a lot of our neighbours in Europe).

Has it been confirmed that this variant is more mild?
Platax · 29/11/2021 08:50

I don't think we were promised things would get back to normal. Much as I despise this government, even I wouldn't accuse them of promising that there couldn't be any variants or other unforeseeable problems.

Fairylights25 · 29/11/2021 08:52

I agree we were never promised that we could forget about covid, nobody could ever promise that. I feel lucky we are not facing a lockdown, and grateful that we have enjoyed such a lovely summer and autumn.

My thoughts exactly... just can't believe it

FFS it’s a pandemic. The restrictions are there for a reason. Not that there are many at the moment, wearing a mask is hardly difficult!

Currently laid up in bed with Covid, despite being double jabbed. It is very real and it is horrible. I just keep thinking if I feel this bad, being relatively young, healthy and double jabbed, it must be absolutely terrifying for those with real health complications.

But no, if you’re ‘fed up’, just do what you want… Hmm
