Some restrictions back, fed up

Just heard the news about masks returning as of next week and changes to travelling rules.

It’s not so much that wearing a mask is inconvenient, it’s the fact that we were told restrictions were over and that we could get on with our lives.

I know I will get shot down for this post, but if it isn’t the ‘omnicron’ variant then it’ll be something else.

I’m sure many people will be in favour of tighter restrictions ‘until numbers drop’. And then what? In a few months’ time when the latest variant is out, will we have to do the same again?
“it’s just for a few weeks/months”

This isn’t going away. What’s the point of having 3 vaccines?

I’m fed up with it all, are people really prepared to do this for the foreseeable future ?

I don’t care. I really don’t anymore.

We are not more important than nature. People are going to die - we will all die eventually. Why are we so special that we think we can evade nature?

I’d rather die than live like this forever.

aren't you supposed to wash and sanitise your hands before and after wearing a mask?

southeastdweller · 27/11/2021 23:26

enforced mask wearing? well, never. it can't be enforced so just do what you prefer to do

I know, it’s laughable. Boo hoo I may get told to leave a shop. Masks do fuck all and I feel sorry for the people who intend to wear them every winter (because Covid and the vulnerable are here for good, you know that, right?).

Porcupineintherough · 27/11/2021 23:26

@Keyboardkaterina I dont agree. There are however a load of weak-minded individuals who cant cope with too much reality who take solace in tantrums and denial.

echt · 27/11/2021 23:27

@screwcovid

Op I agree with you totally we have to live now I don't come on Mumsnet as much anymore ..... all of them completely over react ... VioletRose91 · 27/11/2021 23:27

I’m fed up. I went into my local big supermarket today and I was the only one wearing a mask, I’m double jabbed and I booked to go abroad for my 30th bday in December because me and my husband have had a awful year full of disasters and now probably won’t be going.
I feel like this is just going to go on and on at this rate I read earlier that the Goverment want to roll out a booster jab even sooner for under 40s but I thought our vaccines are not much good against this new variant?

Peaseblossum22 · 27/11/2021 23:28

@Ireallydontcare55

The point that people are making ‘it’s just a mask, it’s just a couple of days of isolation, well we were told this would not be returning. This is not normal life
It is now.
Keyboardkaterina · 27/11/2021 23:28

‘What worries me is how willingly people have accepted the idea of wearing a mask for the rest of their life potentially.’

Why are you worried about other people and what they think?’

I agree, it scares me that some people seem quite happy for us to become a society where everyone walks about with largely pointless bits of material covering gss as of their faces. I do not think people realise how utterly fucking ridiculous masks look. You look as though you are wearing a pair of pants on your face. And no, I would not look more ridiculous on a ventilator. I’ve had covid and like most people I was fine. But looking around at work, in the shops, etc and seeing people with their faces covered up just feels utterly dystopian to me and I pray that this does not become the new normal. I don’t want my children and grandchildren to live in a world where everyone walks about with their faces covered up. It is absolutely horrible.

screwcovid · 27/11/2021 23:28

@echt yes they have ffs I know of 3 .... mental health is on the rise this makes me so fucking angry I know first hand but we must all be petrified of covid

tinylittlepiggy · 27/11/2021 23:28

@Ireallydontcare55

It’s not just masks, it’s new travel restrictions too. It’s not a hardship no, but normal life for me does not involve wearing a mask.
But the only thing we can be certain of is that life constantly changes. Did you stamp your feet and refuse to do night feeds when you had a baby ? Do you freak out and refuse to wear a warm coat when the weather is colder than you are used to one winter. We all hate Covid but 'refusing to accept it' is not an option... what do you think - seriously - is your solution - we all refuse to accept any measures to contain this .. all of us ... no masks, no distancing or testing .. just your keep it normal option ... then what .. where do you honestly think we will be as a country???
xxxGirlCrushxxx · 27/11/2021 23:29

no shop will ask you to leave for not wearing a mask!

do yourself a favour OP and get off the old 'inter web for the night'.

The measure of the mental health of the nation is not suicide rates. Ask any crisis team how they are doing right now.

Exactly and this was back in March we have a mevtal health crisis
Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2021 23:32

You look as though you are wearing a pair of pants on your face.

Well I do not have any pants made out of blue papery material so that's an odd observation.

onanotherday · 27/11/2021 23:33

@DappledOliveGroves

I'm not going to wear a mask again. I've had Covid, I could just as easily get cancer, get hit by a bus or die of something else. Everyone will die one day and I'm not tiptoeing around a virus that will mutate for the foreseeable future.

I'm not a Covid denier. I've had both vaccines. But I'm damned if I'm prepared to live like this. And it terrifies me that there's so much willingness to disregard civil liberties in the naive and arrogant hope that we can control a virus.

Good for you, but you wearing a mask protects others. So what you are saying is your happy to risk others as your all right Jack....(even though you could still.get it again)...sorry but this is such a selfish attitude.
BootsScootsAndToots · 27/11/2021 23:34

How can some people on this thread honestly say masks do nothing Confused

Even if they shorten the distance for transmission a bit that's a good thing. Keeping 1.5 m distance is near on impossible when on trains, in shopping centres etc.

XenoBitch · 27/11/2021 23:34

Yep, my local mental health crisis team have said they have four times the work load now. They used to see 10 people a day, now they see 40.

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 27/11/2021 23:35

Surely you can cope with wearing a small square of fabric over your nose and mouth while in public? It's really not a huge ask IMO.

Meltinthemiddle · 27/11/2021 23:35

They should never have got rid of them and I say that as some one who hates them. I would have also tried to maintain social distancing where possible or bubbles for schools. You are right it isn't going away so we need to learnt to live with it by taking precautions where possible. I'm sick to death of covid and all his doom and gloom. Utterly depressing times right now.

vera99 · 27/11/2021 23:36

Am on Fuenteventura in the Canary Islands at the moment. Very nice people wear masks 100% on public transport ,shops enclosed spaces without any sense of grievance or entitlement. The British in some respects are a curmudgeonly people who get the government and society they deserve. Not everybody of course but we carry a rump of Brit exceptionalmists who ruin it for everyone else.
