I'm watching Sky News, and they have said there will be a news conference this afternoon... but why do they never say at what time? I've also had this on BBC news too previously. It is so infuriating Angry

YANBU- It is annoying they do not specify a time.
YABU- In 2021 you should search the internet to find it yourself.

I do not know how to do AIBU polls. One day I will figure it out and add it on.

Yes make no sense surely we have go back to all close contacts regardless vaccination status or age needs to isolate if they covid postive as we won't know what varients we have unless we sequence every single postive.

If it gets into schools it will spread fast.
No 2nd jab for teens
No mandatory masks.

Naughtynovembertree · 27/11/2021 17:21

Why don't the press ever mention ventilation?
Free and easy and efficient?. Everyone open a window?
Help and support people who want to keep ventilation going???

SpindlesWhirl · 27/11/2021 17:21

How serious is this Omi-var if you catch it? More or less serious than the previous ones?

RoseAndRose · 27/11/2021 17:22

Javid to speak on mask mandate in next couple of days, but Boris has just foreshadowed a return on public transport and retail.

TheExtraGuineaPig · 27/11/2021 17:22

Where on earth is the second dose for 12-15 yr olds? I don't get it at all.

PurpleDaisies · 27/11/2021 17:22

It’s hard to know. It’s too early yet. Some suggestions it’s milder. Some suggestions more younger people in hospital.
Kite22 · 27/11/2021 17:22

Not really sure why they couldn't just wait until the news was due to be shown anyway.
Really annoying when they just cut off the programme you are watching.

"We interrupt this programme to bring you a newsflash" used to be reserved for exceptionally unusual events, and that was when people didn't have lots of other means to get news from.

No-one knows yet.

Which is why they don't want it taking hold, in case it is.

They do seem concerned about vaccine escape

MummyPop00 · 27/11/2021 17:23

Return of masks. Cos they did loads of good in Wales & Scotland.

Placebos for the masses.

herecomesthsun · 27/11/2021 17:24

No, masks are a fairly easy measure to implement that don't cost much and there is evidence accumulating that they have a small but helpful effect.,

DarlingCoffee · 27/11/2021 17:24

I’m possibly being a bit thick here but how have we skipped from delta straight to omicron? Have we had multiple other variants in between?

Whinge · 27/11/2021 17:24

Did he just call the new measures at the border tough... Hmm

And in Europe, which according to some on MN, were totally 100% compliant with mask wearing and putting the non-users of the UK to shame. Well that went well for them didn't it?

You’ve missed some (gamma was a variant from Brazil for example) but I think they’ve also skipped some.
SickAndTiredAgain · 27/11/2021 17:26

Oh ignore me, gamma is before delta anyway I think

SpindlesWhirl · 27/11/2021 17:27

Oooh I know David Maddox! (From a previous life ...)

ftw163532 · 27/11/2021 17:27

"A quirk of this variant means it gives an unusual test result (known as S-gene drop out) that will allow health officials to react more quickly than having to wait for a full genetic analysis."

@PurpleDaisies

No bsl/English interpreter. Good thing deaf people are all immune to covid…
That's piss poor.
Againstmachine · 27/11/2021 17:28

It might have been short notice, Subtitles exist you know.

Yes, but they skipped xi and nu for some reason.

Not all named variants are VOCs - lambda and mu are both VOIs (I = interest)

Westfacing · 27/11/2021 17:28

All male panel and all male journalists, so far.

lollipoprainbow · 27/11/2021 17:29

Chris Whitty looks petrified. It's bad.

He always looks petrified !!

PurpleDaisies · 27/11/2021 17:30

Come on. Our Prime Minister can’t sort our proper access for deaf people? Other countries do it. He just doesn’t give a shit.

Subtitles are no good for many first language BSL users.

SpindlesWhirl · 27/11/2021 17:30

The subtitles are better quality than usual for a live event.
