I'm watching Sky News, and they have said there will be a news conference this afternoon... but why do they never say at what time? I've also had this on BBC news too previously. It is so infuriating Angry

YANBU- It is annoying they do not specify a time.
YABU- In 2021 you should search the internet to find it yourself.

I do not know how to do AIBU polls. One day I will figure it out and add it on.

They're talking about the possibility of vaccinating kids rather than dismissing it.

Good.

Shade17 · 27/11/2021 17:30

There really is nothing to suggest this at present. In fact, recent evidence coming out of SA suggests that symptoms from this variant are mild.

Let’s hope so. They do say that viruses often become less dangerous as they go through mutations.

lollipoprainbow · 27/11/2021 17:30

All male panel and all male journalists, so far.

So ?? What is your point ??

IcelandicCabin · 27/11/2021 17:31

They keep avoiding the issue of vaccines for the under 12s.

Westfacing · 27/11/2021 17:31

I see Bozzer is standing upright, for a change, rather than slumping on the lectern!

VikingOnTheFridge · 27/11/2021 17:32

@PurpleDaisies

Come on. Our Prime Minister can’t sort our proper access for deaf people? Other countries do it. He just doesn’t give a shit.

Subtitles are no good for many first language BSL users.

And such low hanging fruit. There must be a BSL interpreter somewhere in London who could've got there.
IcelandicCabin · 27/11/2021 17:32

(I think - the question is asked but not answered...) I am cooking dinner at the same time thoguh.

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 17:33

Even the name is scary.

Agree they should sort out the BSL interpreter. It can't be that hard.

Cornettoninja · 27/11/2021 17:33

Yes, but they skipped xi and nu for some reason

Don’t know about nu but apparently they’ve skipped xi because that’s the name of the Chinese president. He’s a bit sensitive (don’t mention Winnie the Pooh).

ColinTheKoala · 27/11/2021 17:33

@RoseAndRose

Javid to speak on mask mandate in next couple of days, but Boris has just foreshadowed a return on public transport and retail.
About time. They could have announced it tonight with a start from Dec 1st to allow people to buy some. But no, they'll faff around and delay a bit more Angry
Heyvedge · 27/11/2021 17:33

Xi was skipped because it is the name of the Chinese president

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 17:34

Can't call the new variant nu. But Omicron sounds like a transformer or something.

herecomesthsun · 27/11/2021 17:34

Very happy to raise a glass to our wonderful scientists Wine

Nu was because it could be confused with new.

He basically did announce it, “tightening rules on masks in shops and public transport” can only mean bringing back masks. I don’t know why he then said “oh but Sajid Javid will announce it later”. Like he didn’t want to be the one to actually say it.

AmyFl · 27/11/2021 17:36

Oh that's interesting about "Xi"! I guess "Nu" variant could be a bit confusing when it's being discussed verbally? It sounds like new variant.

Heyvedge · 27/11/2021 17:36

I read that they skipped the two letter ones so they could miss out xi , can't remember where I saw this though

RedWingBoots · 27/11/2021 17:36

"Nu" sounds like "New" in English.
ViceLikeBlip · 27/11/2021 17:36

They had to skip nu because it would just sound like the "new" variant.

Siepie · 27/11/2021 17:36

@Againstmachine

No bsl/English interpreter. Good thing deaf people are all immune to covid…

It might have been short notice, Subtitles exist you know.

I assume you'll be happy getting important government information only in text, in your second language?
Wilma55 · 27/11/2021 17:37

When does pcr start for arrivals to UK?

listsandbudgets · 27/11/2021 17:37

They skipped nu because it sounds like nee and.thats confusing.

As for Xi its the name.of.Chinese president.. I do not think naming any version of this virus after him would be diplomatic!

RedWingBoots · 27/11/2021 17:37

If it is legislation they have to announce it to parliament first to stop the speaker getting pissed off with them yet again.
RedWingBoots · 27/11/2021 17:38

@Againstmachine odd that the other countries in the UK can get BSL interpreters for all their press conferences.

herecomesthsun · 27/11/2021 17:39

They were pretty nippy shutting the borders this time I think, they can have an achievement point for that!
