I'm watching Sky News, and they have said there will be a news conference this afternoon... but why do they never say at what time? I've also had this on BBC news too previously. It is so infuriating Angry

YANBU- It is annoying they do not specify a time.
YABU- In 2021 you should search the internet to find it yourself.

I do not know how to do AIBU polls. One day I will figure it out and add it on.

But disingenuous to talk about hospitalisations falling, when that's a reflection of the lag from the all in cases that was happening a bit over a week ago - esp as new case numbers have been rising again fir about 6 days now

Naughtynovembertree · 27/11/2021 17:04

Oh lord what a fucking waste of time

This will be a "request" and guidance and no one can follow this up or implement it.

IcelandicCabin · 27/11/2021 17:04

PCR tests on the 2nd day. Meanwhile they have gone to Tesco and travelled on public transport. Hmm

PurpleDaisies · 27/11/2021 17:05

I through he said they had to isolate until negative pcr back
Bleddyansum · 27/11/2021 17:06

He did

RoseAndRose · 27/11/2021 17:06

@RoseAndRose

I think they'll be confirming travel quarantine restrictions.

And given that (according to the Telegraph) the whole household of those with omicron are having to isolate, perhaps it'll be nudging us back towards affected households having to isolate (rather than those unde 18 or fully vaccinated being able to stag on) ?

And otherwise generally being a 'don't panic' type briefing, as right now we don't know if it oriduces a more severe form of the disease (bad news if it does, but not inevitable)

Plus general exhortations to wear masks in crowded indoors places and on public transport, and to open windows for 5 mins every hour

Just blowing my own trumpet a bit - but I was pretty much spot on!

Didn't get the booster bit though

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 27/11/2021 17:06

Ooooh.thats interesting. Self isolating for those who are close contact with the new variant. I have covid , been told no one has to self isolate
I knew it was going to be boost the booster and take the vaccines

Whinge · 27/11/2021 17:06

Boost the booster campaign 🙄

Oh look a catchy slogan

IcelandicCabin · 27/11/2021 17:06

but it's isolating at home isn;t it? getting home from the airport etc etc etc

herecomesthsun · 27/11/2021 17:06

all sounds entirely reasonable so far

hasn't mentioned 1 children's cartoon series yet

SpindlesWhirl · 27/11/2021 17:06

@PurpleDaisies

No bsl/English interpreter. Good thing deaf people are all immune to covid…
I've got subtitles on and they're better than usual so I think maybe there was advance sight of BJ's speech, which was fed in? Normally the subbies system uses dictation software and are near-comically inaccurate.
Naughtynovembertree · 27/11/2021 17:06

Why face covering in shops and public transport?
Why not in as many times places as possible and why never ever push, open a bloody window??

The amount of people who moan abiut covid then simultaneously shut windows!!

Fairylights25 · 27/11/2021 17:07

Shit. The vaccines effectiveness has been reduced....

Fairylights25 · 27/11/2021 17:07

With SA variant.

muldersspeedos · 27/11/2021 17:08

Is that all close contacts to self isolate? Dd tested positive on Wednesday. Does her household have to isolate?

PurpleDaisies · 27/11/2021 17:08

Often no good for first language BSL users.
Pretty much every other country interprets their PM into sign pretty much any time they speak. I don’t get why we don’t.

Lockheart · 27/11/2021 17:08

@Fairylights25

No it hasn't. It is possible that omicron may reduce the effectiveness of vaccines.

If you have definite information that it has been reduced then may I recommend you contact SAGE?

SpindlesWhirl · 27/11/2021 17:08

First slide please ...

Whinge · 27/11/2021 17:08

Oww he mentioned significant transmisson in younger children. They usually try and downplay the spread in kids.

RoseAndRose · 27/11/2021 17:09

If it's household isolation for suspected omicron cases, how are they going to decide what is a suspected case?

Nice to hear 'next slide please' again!!

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2021 17:09

Just caught it but sounds fine as list

muldersspeedos · 27/11/2021 17:09

Ooh I love CW!

SickAndTiredAgain · 27/11/2021 17:09

What does “tightening rules on face masks in shops and public transport” mean? There are currently no rules.

Is he just trying to avoid specifically saying “bringing back masks”?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/11/2021 17:10

How will we know if we've been in contact with the new variant? Do PCRs detect the different variants?

bearlyactive · 27/11/2021 17:10

I wish he'd say something definitive
