Clearly ill person sat next to me.

Took Dd to a birthday party. Half the kids cough were coughing and snotty. Part of the package I guess 🤢 I didn't let Dd go to a birthday party last week even after she had a negative pcr. She was clearly ill with cough and cold so didn't think it was right, she's fine now though.. But I feel like I'm the only one who feels the same regarding taking kids out when ill.

Anyway.. there was a dad there, didn't know him. Sat in a spare seat next to me. I realised he seemed quite clearly poorly. He coughed non stop, mainly into the air, he was sniffing, snorting, sneezing, rubbing his face and nose and grunting and moaning to himself - he just seemed ill, like he shouldn't be there. So I moved further away. I'm not saying I'm worried it's covid - that has crossed my mind of course - but even with a normal cold I find it quite selfish. He was there with a woman who was clearly his partner, why did he have to be there if the mum was there??

I'm just annoyed he sat next to me knowing he was ill tbh and I had to move! I wouldn't do this. Aibu? Am I just being ott??

I also think it's selfish and would have moved, but shortly you'll get a bunch of people piling in to tell you that illnesses are unavoidable and you should just put up with it... Hmm

ShellfishLove · 21/11/2021 18:45

As long as it was a common cold, I really wouldn’t mind. Other things like D&V, yes, but I don’t mind about colds. I’d assume he’d had a negative PCR.

Sayitaintsoiwillnotgo · 21/11/2021 18:45

Think a bit OTT. I'm a teacher. If I was off every time I hsd a cold or sniffles I think I'd only teach a fortnight a year....life needs to go on and exposure to pathogens does build the immune system!

Obsidiansphere · 21/11/2021 18:46

Yanbu, that’s unacceptable even BC (Before Covid)!

Maybe, but this was a party! Totally different Hmm

I get that but going to work to earn a living and going somewhere where he didn't actually have to be is different - the mum was there too, he didn't have to be there!

I don't care that he was ill, I'm just annoyed he would sit right next to someone and sniff, snort and cough next to them. I couldn't do it myself!

Agree, I would have been peed off by it even before covid!

FestiveMayo · 21/11/2021 18:51

That's disgusting. If he was that ill he should have stayed at home.

JimJamJolly · 21/11/2021 18:52

No you're not being unreasonable or OTT - some people don't care about spreading germs. My DH took kids to cinema today. Cinema about 1/3 full. 2 spare seats between my DH and another family sat in the same row. No one sat in the row infront and only 3 people in the row behind. A couple came and sat in the 2 spare seats between my DH and the other family. One of them was coughing and sneezing as she clearly had a cold. My DH and kids moved.

ShaneTheThird · 21/11/2021 18:52

Yabu. Because of covid and isolation everyone's immune system is now shot to pieces meaning we have to build up immunity and tolerance to minor illnesses again, otherwise the world will be at a standstill forever as everyone will be off constantly and nothing will function.

TulipsGarden · 21/11/2021 18:53

If he was ill enough to be moaning he should definitely be at home, that's grim. Even BC.

Yeah I definitely would have been annoyed and posted similar to this even before covid! It was rank! He wasn't subtle about it either.

I'd assume that a person who hasn't got the decency or common sense to use a tissue at a minimum absolutely wont have gone for a pct test.

Ime everyone who has a cold makes it very clear to others that they have been tested as soon as they start coughing

A580Hojas · 21/11/2021 19:00

Of course I would move as far away as humanly possible to someone sniffing and snotting all over the place. Who wouldn't?? Confused

britnay · 21/11/2021 19:00

YANBU. We've already decided at work that, post-Covid, we will wear masks when coming in ill.

limerencelarry · 21/11/2021 19:03

Get a bloody grip

OverTheRubicon · 21/11/2021 19:09

Yanbu. The UK takes an unusually gross approach to it being ok for children to come to totally voluntary activities like parties and soft play when clearly ill - even worse when it's adults.

Was shocked when I got here and heard so many people say 'well, she's full of cold, but if you kept them home when they're sick they'd never go out!' as if there wouldn't be far fewer sick kids if people were able to entertain their own sneezing kids at home on a Saturday afternoon.

Queenoftheashes · 21/11/2021 19:10

Nah that’s gross. People telling you it’s fine prob do it. It’s disgusting. Some man was doing it on the tube next to me the other day. No mask. I got off and moved carriages. Disgusting creature. Also watching a video with the sound on and no headphones. Just selfish.

Absolutely. Dd was meant to go to a party last weekend. She had a runny nose, cough etc and a negative pcr. She wasn't ill in herself but I still kept her back. She was better by Monday/Tuesday so fine to go this week but every other kid was coughing. Deep chesty coughs too!! It's that time of year and coughing it's normal for kids. That didn't annoy me as much as the full grown man coughing into the air with no tissue in sight!! 🤢

Maybe she didn’t want to go without him, reading threads on here it seems a lot of people need their partner with them wherever they go!

MorganKitten · 21/11/2021 19:16

Not really your business, maybe the child has SEN and both parents needed, maybe they were going somewhere after, maybe only one drives.

I don't care that he was there in general - although I do think it's vile. I'm just more annoyed he plonked himself in an Empty seat right next to me and started spluttering and coughing all over me with no tissue or respiratory hygiene! There was chairs free with plenty of space too!!

Christ, you're more polite than me. I would have asked him to put a mask on or leave. Or would then have walked out myself.

COVID rates are going back up. Really not worth putting yourself at risk with a bunch of coughing, sneezing, selfish idiots.
