Clearly ill person sat next to me.

Took Dd to a birthday party. Half the kids cough were coughing and snotty. Part of the package I guess 🤢 I didn't let Dd go to a birthday party last week even after she had a negative pcr. She was clearly ill with cough and cold so didn't think it was right, she's fine now though.. But I feel like I'm the only one who feels the same regarding taking kids out when ill.

Anyway.. there was a dad there, didn't know him. Sat in a spare seat next to me. I realised he seemed quite clearly poorly. He coughed non stop, mainly into the air, he was sniffing, snorting, sneezing, rubbing his face and nose and grunting and moaning to himself - he just seemed ill, like he shouldn't be there. So I moved further away. I'm not saying I'm worried it's covid - that has crossed my mind of course - but even with a normal cold I find it quite selfish. He was there with a woman who was clearly his partner, why did he have to be there if the mum was there??

I'm just annoyed he sat next to me knowing he was ill tbh and I had to move! I wouldn't do this. Aibu? Am I just being ott??

It’s Britain in the winter FFS, if we all stayed at home when we got a sniffle everything would grind to a halt.

A sniffle isn’t coughing and sneezing like that.

Resilience people, it's a thing...

So is minimising illness and passing it round other people under some misguided belief that soldiering on and making other people ill is some kind of badge of pride to where,

BoredZelda · 21/11/2021 20:21

*wear.

So you experienced a mild inconvenience of having to move?

And I bet you tutted while doing it too

All while knowing nothing about him or his circumstances

Sorry, YABU[/quote]
The circumstances are that he was right next to when he didn't have to be. He should have been coughing in to his elbow/using a handkerchief.

Sayke · 21/11/2021 20:23

@itsallgoingpearshaped
At a children's party?!

Jesus Christ you people are so paranoid... To an unhealthy degree Wink

OP you clearly don't think YABU (even though you definitely are) so why bother starting a thread?

Get it moved to the Covid boards with the other nutty threads

TreborBore · 21/11/2021 20:23

Disgusting. If he had to be out he should have been wearing a mask at the very least.

mimi0708 · 21/11/2021 20:25

Maybe everybody won't get sick and have to stay at home in the first place if people who are clearly sick stayed at home and stopped spreading it!

Yanbu OP. Before COVID, everyone in the office are always sick during the winter because people who are clearly not well enough keep going in! And so everyone keeps getting sick every week and it just keeps going on and on! Not very productive for anyone at all.

setera · 21/11/2021 20:25

Yanbu.

I would constantly moan about people pre covid coming to mine, inviting themselves even if it was just a common cold

A common cold isn't nice, thickly throat, coughing, feeling generally weak and shit and the rest of it.

I'm currently on my 4th day of my children having "just a cold" and honestly I believe anyone who thinks this is just normal and who cares if u catch it, are absolutely insane. Babies can't sleep because of being bunged up and coughing. It's not fucking pleasant.

I have the decency to keep my eldest off nursery when she's coughing and clearly unwell. For her to go back to catch it again because someone else sent in their kid with "just a cold"

I completely agree with you and think the man is a self entitled asshole

Lovemusic33 · 21/11/2021 20:29

I guess colds are impossible to avoid, sadly people can’t stay at home until symptoms have gone because a cold can last for more than a week? I have been in contact with a few people in the last week that were obviously full of cold.

Porcupineintherough · 21/11/2021 20:32

@ShaneTheThird

Yabu. Because of covid and isolation everyone's immune system is now shot to pieces meaning we have to build up immunity and tolerance to minor illnesses again, otherwise the world will be at a standstill forever as everyone will be off constantly and nothing will function.
You know this is rubbish yeah?

It’s Britain in the winter FFS, if we all stayed at home when we got a sniffle everything would grind to a halt.

Well, maybe if we had all stayed at home last year, 140,000 people wouldn't have died.

CovidMakesThingsHard · 21/11/2021 20:36

Probably some of the people I know. They don’t get PCR tested apparently as they know their cough and feeling ill isn’t covid. They should be employed by the NHS, could save them thousands in testing when even doctors can’t tell

Porcupineintherough · 21/11/2021 20:37

@Sayke then I guess you dont really know how immune systems work either.

I work in a primary school. You'd be amazed at the abuse staff have received for politely asking parents to stick to the one way system during covid pic ups/drop offs, mask wearing requests, not having parents in the school building during the height of the pandemic... A primary school

Bit rude.. and against MN rules I would think....

YANBU.

People are disgusting.

Also stupid and inconsiderate.

Dontgetyerknicksinatwist · 21/11/2021 20:43

He should have at least covered his mouth and not coughed into the open air. We are in a pandemic and there is a chance he could have had Covid and infected a load of people at the party. The vaccine doesn’t always protect people from getting seriously ill with Covid. Only recently in the news there was a report about a hospital doctor in his early 40s, double jabbed who died of it. He was healthy before he fell ill and didn’t drink or smoke. It goes to show no one is completely safe even if they’ve had the vaccine so all the more reason to take extra care.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 21/11/2021 20:47

So you can say FFS to someone else and I can't call you patronising?

Fine. You've completely derailed this entire conversation to be about you anyway.

Enjoy. It's all yours.

Sunnysideup999 · 21/11/2021 20:50

Disgusting. People should keep their germs to themselves.
It is irresponsible - who’s to say there’s not vulnerable people nearby. Even if it’s not COVID, what is a cold to someone could be serious in someone vulnerable.
It’s thoughtless and selfish

So sad so scary also about the doctor dying 😢 someone from my village died of covid age 40. Admittedly before the vaccine but he was very fit and healthy. His parents were and still are devastated. Can't even begin to imagine.

@Sayke that would take quite a few weeks (if you have a background in biology to degree level), and longer if you dont. Suffice to say (and luckily for humanity) your immune system doesn't get wiped, or shot to pieces, after a few weeks of isolation or semi isolation.
