Pfizer / Moderna booster after AZ initial jabs

Has anyone had this? I've had my invitation for my booster and am a bit concerned as I just felt a bit poorly after my first 2 jabs that having a difference vaccine might cause problems...

@DobbyTheHouseElk

Yes, I understand that. But it’s not a “booster” is it?

It’s a totally different vaccine. So my point is, will we need a double dose of that?

Anybody who had a booster of diptheria/tetanus/polio, rubella or measles after the mid 80s also technically had a totally different vaccine, as all have been changed since that time. Still didn't need a booster of a booster. And each flu jab is different from one year to the next - not only not a problem, it's the entire point to ensure the prevalent strains are protected against.

I will be having a 4th vaccination/booster because I needed a third primary. It's fine. My slightly tender arm (because some extra fluid has been injected into a muscle where there wasn't any extra fluid before hand and the immune system is always going to notice there's an intruder, whatever it is) was fine within a few hours. And if, as viruses do, a different strain becomes prevalent over time and further vaccinations become necessary, I'll have those as well. Just as there are multiple primary vaccinations for babies and boosters - and few people are daft enough to say that needing more than one dose is anything to be concerned about

I just had my pfizer booster today after first two AZ. Have been feeling fine so far but starting to feel exhausted in the last half hour. I was ill the next day with my first AZ dose but totally fine with the 2nd so who knows how this one will go. I'm not at work until tomorrow night so fingers crossed any symptoms are long gone by then

MeanderingGently · 18/11/2021 17:33

Reading through this with interest.....
Had my booster today, after two AZ. Was surprised to be given Moderna for the booster, I was fully expecting Pfizer.

First AZ jab I was quite ill, a bit like flu', and a sore arm. Second AZ, really no problem. I'm a bit worried about after effects of the booster, I already have the sore arm starting, I shan't mind if that's the only effect but I keep reading that Moderna makes people feel nauseous/be sick. Does it? I'm supposed to be at work tomorrow and have a 5-day run of shifts starting....

jendifer · 18/11/2021 17:36

I had Pfizer booster yesterday after AZ. No issues other than a sore arm. I managed to swim last night and cycle today. When I had my first AZ I couldn’t get out of bed for 2 days.

Mantlemoose · 18/11/2021 20:21

@Mantlemoose

First two AZ - had my Pfizer booster today - already got a sore throat but I think it's my imagination!
Well it wasn't my imagination, have reported my side effects yesterday on the yellow card system. Dizziness, vomiting, fever, chills, migraine. Now just exhausted. If theres ever a 4th booster I won't be having it.
NeverDropYourMoonCup · 18/11/2021 21:23

Sore throat, chills, nausea and severe headache are the symptoms that led to one of my colleagues receiving a positive PCR yesterday. It would be worth both of you getting a test in case you were already incubating an infection at the time of the vaccine.

Had a moderna booster after two az jabs.
Had chills during the night, felt slightly sick and headachy the next day then a few hours of extreme tiredness. Slight sore arm.

Mild version of how I felt with covid itself, after first az jab and nothing after second.

JurgensCakeBaby · 18/11/2021 22:14

I felt awful after first AZ, fine after the second other than a sore arm and swelling in my armpit, had my Pfizer booster last week and felt horrendous, bad headache, nauseous, sore throat, glands very swollen in my neck and under my arm, high temperature, lasted 3 days. The nurse essentially warned me that as I'd had AZ first I was more likely to get symptoms than those who already has Pfizer. I have also had Covid so I'm not sure if that makes a difference, it felt like my body was saying oh fucking hell not this again, get rid!

JurgensCakeBaby · 18/11/2021 22:16

I LFT twice a week so I'm pretty sure it was the vaccine not Covid, also I've already had it and it lasted a lot longer than 3 days

BreadInCaptivity · 18/11/2021 22:16

Can't speak for myself but my parents had Pfizer after AZ.

My DM was fine but my DF felt dreadful for 24 hours afterwards.

They were both fine (sure arm aside) after AZ.

They were still both grateful to take the booster and will do so again if the need arises.

whitehorsesdonotlie · 18/11/2021 22:19

I had two AZ and had no side effects with either.

Have just booked a Pfizer booster. Hope that's ok too...

Place marking. I had AZ in the early summer and am due my booster at the end of December.
No problems at all with either jab. Hope I'm lucky third time too.

chipsandpeas · 19/11/2021 12:15

i had moderna last night after 2 AZ and apart from a sore arm had no issues - had the same sore arm after my 2nd AZ

Glinsk · 19/11/2021 13:41

Moderna isn't available in many areas but I would have chosen it if there was a choice as it seems to be the most effective of all vaccines.
Pfizer still gives excellent results.
Good graph here of effect of boosters in the UK.

Just had my Pfizer one today, reacted badly to the first az, flu symptoms for 10ths and tired and washed out after the 2nd az. Interestingly my symptoms with first az didn’t really start until 30hrs after vax, I finished my shift, went home and within a few hours temp shot upland I was in dressing gown under duvet and blankets with 3pairs socks on, teeth chattering! Every bone in my body hurt, exactly like flu I had 19yrs ago but with a much shorter duration.
On another early shift tomorrow so abit worried about side affects but hopefully if they come, it’ll be after mid afternoon when I get home!

DGFB · 19/11/2021 14:05

Pfizer booster is being given because it gives better protection after 2xAZ.
I’m due a booster but can’t have it yet as I currently have Covid, which has completely knocked me off my feet. Please get your boosters

KnottyKnitting · 19/11/2021 14:07

I hadAZ for the first 2- no side effects whatsoever. I had the moderna booster this morning- nothing so far.

janefitzjane · 19/11/2021 14:07

As long as both of your initial vaccine doses were the same it makes little difference in terms of immune response which one you have for your booster. Whether or not you get ill is similarly pot luck. As ever though, you should still follow the instructions on that sheet you get given after your vaccine - i.e. if you are ill for more than a few days contact your GP urgently, but this is unlikely to happen even with any combination of vaccines and doses

londonmummy1966 · 19/11/2021 14:08

AZ1 - felt ill and spent a day in bed - very sore arm for a week
AZ2 - just a sore arm for a couple of days
Pfizer - felt OK but the area around the jab was very itchy for 2 weeks and had a sore arm for 1 of them.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 19/11/2021 14:12

I had the Pfizer booster yesterday, but of a stiff arm that's all. Had the AZ for the first 2, hot and red arm for the first, nothing for the 2nd.

thenightsky · 19/11/2021 22:11

If you have REAL covid, surely your immunity is now far better than any booster to provide, so why bother?
Helensburghmiddleagedmum · 20/11/2021 18:00

Felt so ill after first AZ, like I had flu, fever, chills, weakness, exhaustion. Same but not quite as bad with second AZ. Had Pfizer booster yesterday and really hoping for mild/nonexistant symptoms. Sadly arm absolute agony, muscles very sore, weak, exhausted, nauseous. Completely baffling. Only one other person at my work had a reaction, everyone else gleefully fine with no side effects whatsoever. I would love to know why some people have a severe reaction and so many people are completely unaffected.

NotMyCat · 20/11/2021 19:21

I was unwell with first AZ, fine with second and fine after third primary which was Pfizer
TBH I inject myself with a drug that is absolutely vile so every week I spend 12hrs shivering with a fever, back and bone pain, headache, nausea.. the vaccines were on the mild side! Grin
