Pfizer / Moderna booster after AZ initial jabs

Has anyone had this? I've had my invitation for my booster and am a bit concerned as I just felt a bit poorly after my first 2 jabs that having a difference vaccine might cause problems...

Had AZ for the first two with no problems then the Maderna a couple of days ago it feels like l have been punched in the arm still.

Itsnotover · 17/11/2021 08:15

I've woken up with a headache. This one seems to have gone to all my weak spots. A reaction is good though as someone above says.

@Howshouldibehave

Yes-I had Pfizer after initial AZ and felt dreadful!
I had that and felt fine after the booster Smile
borntobequiet · 17/11/2021 08:19

No problems with this at all. Felt fine. Arm barely sore.

Phwooooar · 17/11/2021 08:20

AZ, AZ and had Moderna booster on Monday. Other than a bit of a sore arm which has now gone I had no problems

fourquenelles · 17/11/2021 09:00

I had AZ initially and was booked for a P or M booster. However I am allergic to one of the components in both the P and M vaccines. I am having to travel 26 miles for an AZ booster this Friday. Deep joy.

Roadtripconcept · 17/11/2021 09:19

I had flu like symptoms after the first AZ . I was fine after the second.
I had my Pfizer booster last Saturday . I just had a bit of an achy arm . I had my flu jab a couple of weeks before that and had a similar achy arm .

TammyTwoSwanson · 17/11/2021 09:25

I had AZ first two times and was really ill after each one for days. Pfizer for my 3rd dose and only had a bit of a sore arm afterwards.

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/11/2021 09:27

First two were AZ, recent booster Moderna. Husband, the same. No ill-effects. We were pleased as the combination provides greater protection.

CurzonDax · 17/11/2021 10:08

First 2 AZ had horrific side effects. First dose I had severe flu (plus vomiting) for 48 hours. Am a T1 diabetic, and it massively affected my blood sugars. To the point where my sugars were absolutely fine when I tested (6.8 mmol for anyone who knows about the numbers), and then in less than 8 minutes, I was on the floor having a seizure as had dropped to below 2. Paramedics called out.

Second dose, no illness as such, but again massive effects on my blood sugars, and once again the paramedics had to be called out, but this time 3 days after having the vaccine.

Had Pfizer booster 2 weeks ago - blood sugars absolutely fine (perfect even). Felt incredibly tired though the following day (slept through most of it). Had a sore arm for a few days, and a red lump on the vaccination site (which was also very itchy) for about a week.

Pfizer was definitely the best experience from all of them (mainly as no paramedics had to be called out, so I guess my benchmark was low!).

AZ,AZ,Pfizer. Strong reaction to jab 1, nothing with jab 2, very sore arm with jab 3.

Bowednotbroken · 17/11/2021 10:54

AZ / AZ / Pfizer here too. No ill effects at all apart from sore arms. I did notice the booster injection was actually more painful to receive but by day 2 it wasn't more than tender.

Casamilano · 17/11/2021 12:44

AZ AZ, booster Pfizer. NO ill effects from booster except very sore arm. Dh also the same.

Itsnotover · 17/11/2021 18:56

I've had a headache and nausea all day but it seems to be subsiding.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/11/2021 19:03

I’ve had AZ AZ. Yet to have the 3rd go.

I know this has been done several times before. But it’s not a booster is it? That would be a 3rd AZ. So this would be a new vaccine. Not a booster?

I will go ahead, but it’s starting a new vaccine isn’t it. So will we end up with AZ AZ then PH PH?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/11/2021 19:13

@hattie500

I had both AZ AND HAD NO SIDE EFFECTS feel like I'm the only one who had no side effects lol I bet when I get my booster I will be ill ☹️
The only thing I had with AZ was tiredness and a sore arm after the first and nothing after the second.

I'm dreading having the booster as a) I have a needle phobia and b) I'm worried about side effects from Pfizer or Moderna. I'd be happier if it was AZ again.

Does anyone know if it's possible to find out whether the booster if Pfizer or Moderna before hand? If I can pluck up the courage to have it I want to know what I'm having and would prefer Pfizer.

If you had AZ before, the Pfizer works well as a booster. This has been researched. Hence they are only using Pfizer / Moderna for boosters.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/11/2021 19:43

Yes, I understand that. But it’s not a “booster” is it?

It’s a totally different vaccine. So my point is, will we need a double dose of that?

Fifthtimelucky · 17/11/2021 19:48

I haven't had my booster yet but my husband had Pfizer after 2 AZ. He has flu type symptoms after the AZ but nothing at all after the Pfizer.

Well, clearly not.

This was published 2 days ago re: efficacy of boosters following a primary course of either AZ or Pfizer.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

Have you thought about getting some emla cream? It numbs the area.

I have but to be honest it's not it hurting that bothers me, it's just the thought of having an injection at all. I felt ill when DH went for his! Blood tests are even worse, I had to be held down for the last one. When I'm being rational I know how stupid it it is but when it comes to it I panic.

I'm telling myself I have to have at least this booster as we've got a holiday booked next year and Bruce Springsteen has said he's touring in 2022 and I probably won't be able do either without it. Fingers crossed it's enough!

dorothygaleandtoto · 17/11/2021 20:54

My mum (approaching 70) had AZ for jab #1 and jab #2. She had no adverse reaction. She then had Pfizer for jab #3. She was concerned because her neighbour had exactly the same and was quite poorly with flu-like symptoms after #3, but my mum was absolutely fine, not even a sore arm.

Itsnotover · 17/11/2021 21:18

@PinkSparklyPussyCat poor you. Phobias are horrible. A lot of people do seem to have a needle phobia - I didn't realise until this pandemic kicked off. I think I've been desensitised to needles because of being diabetic in pregnancy & having to inject myself with insulin. I used to get very stressed out and anxious about blood tests etc.,
