As expected, rah rah, the government is doing a wonderful job, nothing to see here.

🤔 I wonder what they are trying to hide today...

I don’t know why we can’t call Boris ,Boris. Adele isn’t my mate but I still call her Adele. 🤷‍♀️
Which other Boris might be doing a press conference?

@PicsInRed

My heart still actually sinks at the words "5pm press conference with Boris" 🤣

Me too. Never a good thing!

Lockdowns etc get declared at 8pm don't they? I debt think it will be anything more than bringing masks back etc.

I get irritated by the 'Boris' thing, too. It's a hokey schtick designed to make us feel more connected and fond of him. But all his family and friends actually call him Alex. So, every time someone matily calls him Boris - and the papers push the nonsense - it makes me annoyed.

Johnson. That's what I call him. That's the most polite thing I call him, anyway.

Why the sudden fuss in here about calling him Boris, he's been known as that for years Hmm

@TheFairyCaravan

Stop calling him Boris. He’s not your mate. You wouldn’t have said “there’s a press conference with Dave” or “there’s a press conference with Theresa” would you?

You’d struggle in Scotland.

And Nicola’s not even an unusual name.

And she’s very definitely not my mate!

Boris is turning off the electricity gas on rolling power cuts until we cough up the money for renewable energy 🙄🙄🙄

He will be in complete contempt of the NHS announcements this morning .. it will be setting the narrative that we are not taking personal responsibility ( see example of personal responsibility with masks set at PMQs today) and it will be our fault when restrictions in some capacity are forced back in a few weeks. It will never the his fault as health sec. It will never be the governments fault.

It's all fiiiiiine. Get out there and spend money. He will not say anything negative yet. He wants half term spending. It will all be fine, don't worry, it's all in the plan yada, yadda.

We are probably 3-4 weeks from alas.

Alas, I think you are correct @itsasecret

Plus, it won't be Johnson, just a minion

We are in turmoil, with the most incompetent prime minister ever and an utter shitshow of a government responsible for thousands of unnecessary deaths.

A a poster chooses to take issue with calling him Boris? Wtaf.

Talk about getting priorities wrong.

@nonono1

I honestly don't think they'd be able to implement another lockdown even if they wanted to. People have (quite rightly) had enough!

Absolutely.

I’m sure all those who enjoy the lockdowns or the endless drama of speculation (“Press conference at 5!!!!!”) won’t agree, but there’s plenty of us who’ve absolutely had enough. As a society we’ve lost all sense of perspective and now, seemingly, nothing matters except Covid. Not the 450 a day who die of cancer, not the 460 people a day who die of heart disease, not the 17 people who committed suicide (and now many more of these will there be as a result of covid restrictions?). Nothing.

@Quartz2208

In that case if it is Sajid that wont be Plan B that would definitely be Boris Johnson

I suspect it will be pushing Boosters - how to get them and the 12-15 vaccinations. They know we are behind now and need to get ahead

Well in Wales we can't get boosters still working our way through NHS workers and vulnerable over 70s next month. We've shut down most centres. Two GPS practices in our town have stated that they're not doing them. Government are flogging a dead horse

It's not good at all @AutumnLeafy and the NHS begging for relief today as a headline is the closest we have gotten to any kind of coverage of it. It has been in the news, bur people see "NHS under pressure" and assume it's "under pressure as usual". There hasn't been "pressure as usual" since before the pandemic.

My local trust have now been in Extreme Pressures for just over a month. Before that we were in Severe pressure for months and months which means "We need support now and we need to prepare for Extreme immediately". On top of this we are about to land in the usual Winter Pressures status, and that doesn't take in to account Covid on top of that.

Add to ALL of the above that staff are sick of the way they are being treated and leaving in drives, and EU workers were sent home (it didn't just affect the supply chain, we have THOUSANDS of foreign nurses here) and we are fucked. We aren't just on our knees anymore, we are flat on our damn faces, begging for pay rises they won't give us to attract and retain staff!

Now more than ever NHS workers need a payrise, or there will BE no NHS workers left.

Your fault cases are rising, blah, blah, blah.
No lockdown, nothing to worry about, carry on as normal, blah, blah, blah.
Take personal responsibility.

Basically no change. It is a reply to the statement that a lockdown should happen.

It’ll be - wear a mask if you can
Get a booster if you are eligible
Cases are going up so please wash your hands more in addition to above. We won’t be locking down again don’t worry. We are doing amazingly and are the victims of our own success etc etc but cases are going up so we must be a teeny bit more careful etc.

In a few weeks time they’ll have to make masks, covid passports mandatory because above will fail to reduce increase in cases. Tonight is just to set the scene/tone for what’s to come while they put actually doing it off a bit longer.

I wish they’d just get on with doing what clearly needs doing - masks, passport, distancing and wfh and hurry up with getting kids vaccinated and booster programme. They will do all this but way too late as per usual. Learning from others and learning from experience seems to be something this government are totally incapable of doing.

What should we call him..? 🤷🏻‍♀️[/quote]
Those who know him call him Alex.

Boris is a stage name for acting in front of us plebs and trying to make us believe in the image of loveable buffoon. It works, I'll say that for him. Very well constructed.

JinglingHellsBells · 20/10/2021 13:36

'advice' to wear a mask is useless. The advice is not being followed now- ie on trains, airports, etc, etc- and won't be unless it's made law.

Why make an announcement about boosters? I thought the issue was that we are waiting to be called and the rollout is slow, not that people aren’t willing. My mother almost 80 is waiting to be called for hers and for the flu vaccine for that matter.

Report
julieca · 20/10/2021 13:37

My surgery say they will contact you about a booster.
My DP who is ecv has not been contacted yet.
Only 3 million booster doses have been given. That won't even cover all over 80's.

The NHS is in crisis here every winter flu, norovirus much of it caught in house. Yet they vote against euthanasia when in reality they want oldies to shuffle off quietly

Exactly. Call him Johnson if anything, by calling him Boris you're feeding into the manufactured matey crap. Fine if you think he's great, otherwise you're just playing along with and perpetuating the act.

I followed a link my local primary care place put up on FB as my mother hadn't been contacted. I got onto a booking site so just booked hers. She's had it now. When she went to the vaccine centre there were loads of people there who were just walk ins. No idea how that worked!
