I am not sure we can afford another shut down and it would not be fair on people to impose another.

southeastdweller · 20/10/2021 22:34

We can't afford another shut down and we don't need one. Even the government know this.

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 20/10/2021 22:37

Plan B doesn’t really seem to be that dramatic? Masks and work from home? That’s the situation in Wales anyway 🤷‍♀️

Againstmachine · 20/10/2021 22:40

And cases are raising in Wales anyhow so that's working out well.

RobinsReliant · 20/10/2021 22:47

The government are following a policy of trying not to use legally-imposed restrictions to achieve compliance (light touch policy). Partly because of the challenges and expense of enforcing compliance (introduce a law you must introduce a penalty) but also to win popularity.

Continuing in this way means the rest of Europe / UK will have more restrictions than us. By being the last to lock down the government will claim they tried to maintain our freedom for as long as possible. They want to be seen as the good guys, the reasonable ones and appeal to a significant chunk of society in doing so.

marieantoinehairnet · 20/10/2021 23:06

This government don't care about people, they only care about "their type" of people.

The rest of us, they're quite happy for us to shuffle off our mortal coil, whether that be by covid, poverty, mental health issues whatever they don't care.

Levelling up is utter bull crap.

But not at the same rate it would if they had no restrictions. Why are people not getting this?
herecomesthsun · 20/10/2021 23:22

@Hetty0

Oh it's like January all over again. If the NHS website lets you book, this is because it knows you're eligible and it wants you to book. It's not possible to skip the queue or anything like that *@herecomesthsun*
I am not skipping the queue, I know perfectly well that I am due for a bloody booster now, thank you.

I don't think for one minute the app is intelligent enough to "want people to book"; it sounds as though there are issues with supply in some areas.

marieantoinehairnet · 20/10/2021 23:23

I'm Due a booster but the computer says no...

I also went online today to book a Oct, computer said no to that too

And to log a lat flow test, wouldn't work for that either

I expect they're turning off the tap as it suits them right now to do so.

Againstmachine · 20/10/2021 23:31

But not at the same rate it would if they had no restrictions. Why are people not getting this?

But people are still being infected, why aren't you getting this.

Less so than without restrictions.

That. Is. The. Point.

Againstmachine · 20/10/2021 23:43

*Less so than without restrictions.

But they are still getting it and it's going up, that is the point, see no needless full stops.

worriedatthemoment · 21/10/2021 00:07

@Nuttymonkey maybe because at least if they do get it they can inform you and you can test and isolate breaking the chain
You may know your friends to lateral flow tests a couple times a week , wfh , limit their contacts etc so can make more of an informed choice
Strangers you know none of that , you won't know if the person you sat next to on the tube has covid unless you both have the app
Also asking people to wear in crowded places is probably more acceptable than asking people to wear one when they go to a friends for example , Phycology plays a part in what people may or may not do
Just my opinion

CharleyMarley · 21/10/2021 00:07

@2389Champ

“Most people who have been vaccinated or have already had covid may have a sense of invincibility about them and just aren’t bothered anymore.“

Can you blame them? We were told the vaccines were the way out and the key to normality - no doubt to ensure uptake. We were assured it had been fully researched, despite the speed of its production. No expert ever mentioned the fact that despite having the jab, you could still catch Covid and give it to others. Those facts were slowly and stealthy stirred into the mix out of nowhere.

This is just not true! It has been very clear from the beginning. The media were very clear in reporting the clinical trials methodology and results.

The clinical trial endpoints were something like "severe disease" and "hospitalisation" and "death". And the results of the clinical trails clearly and directly said that the vaccines reduced the chances of severe disease/hospitalisation/death by x%.

If you're unable to understand basic science or choose not to, that's you're own fault. But you can't just spout things that are untrue.

worriedatthemoment · 21/10/2021 00:09

@southeastdweller not really blackmail is just the truth , hard as that may seem it really is

It really isn't the point.

Aren't they falling in Scotland?

Some posters will just never get it will they

Furries · 21/10/2021 02:52

Flipping Nora. I’ve spent ages keeping away from these types of threads. Why on earth did I decide to have a peek again.

@Thewiseoneincognito is still pontificating as though the rest of people on here are blindly walking into an apocalypse.

@MercyBooth is still just angrily ranting. Am not sure how refusing ANY type of vaccine from New Year 2022 is going to be a successful protest, but what do I know.

@Frazzled2207 was right - it was mentioned very early on that there would likely be rolling lockdowns. It was said early, things and knowledge obviously changed throughout, but it was definitely said.

The words frothing and salivating have been so overused that I’m desensitised to them now,

I don’t think, and sincerely hope, that there won’t be another lockdown. I’m ok if masks are needed in shops. I don’t use public transport, but if I did I’d be happy to wear a mask. I’m ok with hospitality venues needing procedures in place . Anything to ensure no one has to do lockdown again.

EffOrf · 21/10/2021 03:55

If they ban household mixing it doesn't really work as well in the winter as curtain twitchers can't see you easily if its dark, after four o'clock in the winter, people could be visiting others and it's difficult to see as curtains are drawn and its dark outside not like the summer when you can easily see what others are doing in an evening and may be outside in the garden

no you don't do you

herecomesthsun · 21/10/2021 06:33

Sorry, maybe you did, I think I lost my place there Grin

littlestmunchkin · 21/10/2021 06:48

They won't ban household mixing as any of their research will tell them people simply will not adhere again. Yes I think masks will come back and wfh, I think that will be it.
