Has anyone contacted their trial centre to ask the double jab v. booster question? I would be interested to know the answers - last communication I had from them (a general email to everyone) they were still framing the two Pfizer jabs route as "if you want to travel internationally" rather than as "this is the minimum you need for protection". And however good Novavax is, I can't see protection lasting for more than 12 months, meaning anyone who had it last year is surely essentially unprotected without (at least) 2 doses of Pfizer at this point?

KeepingOnKeepingUp · 14/12/2021 10:40

ItsSnowJokes, I felt terrible after dose 1 of Pfizer for 36 hours. But had hardly any side effects after dose 2, not even a sore arm.

gazzaconns · 14/12/2021 10:51

@QueenOfThorns not too bad this time round. A bit of a sore arm and fell asleep early, woke up for 2 hours at midnight. I took paracetamol throughout the day as a precaution but really much better than earlier Moderna. I am now a normal person and not a disadvantaged Guinea Pig.

I have heard a lot of people saying this so I hope it is true. I was ill for over a week with the first and felt like death.

With regards to booster, I am going to push for a booster about April time if I can. It will probably be at a walk in or gp by then as we will just show as 2 Pfizer as last 2 jabs so it hopefully won't be such a big deal, although a bit concerned that will be jab 5! But with the news today that 2 Pfizer helps with omicron I just want as much protection as possible.

Torvean · 14/12/2021 15:28

I know ppl in Scotlabd who only got 1 Pfizer as a booster.

Torvean · 14/12/2021 15:30

@ItsSnowJokes you sound like me. I needed medicine for nausea. I will for 2 weeks. No chance I'll have a 3rd

Thats what I had for 1st Pfizer so I have asked for anti nausea and painkillers in just incase. Hopefully I won't need it but I just want to be protected.

Thanks @gazzaconns! It looks as though I’ll have to have Moderna again too (based on where I managed to get my appointment), so this is good to know.

My two Novavax’s appear on the NHS app, but I cant use the NHS booking system as it says something like “you dont appear to need to book a vaccine”. Anyone else in the same boat? Tells me to contact my GP but I doubt they can help.

I have been following this thread with interest. Whilst I was not part of the Novavax trial, I was part of "ComCov2". When I was unblinded I was told that I had been given Novavax as my second vaccine. This does not show on the NHS app. Instead, my second vaccine is recorded as the Pfizer, which my trial centre gave me as my booster.

At the point of my booster we were hopeful that Novavax would be approved in the UK, and then all 3 of the vaccines would show on the app.

As it appears unlikely that Novavax will be approved here, and now that we may soon need 2 vaccines plus the booster to have a valid "passport", I thought I would see what would happen if I logged on to the vaccine booking system. It too tells me that I am not eligible to book a booster vaccine.

I feel relatively well protected with my 3 jabs, but am concerned that without a 3rd "valid" vaccine I will be unable to travel abroad or access venues where a valid passport is required.
ComCov2 have been good so far with responding to changes, and I hope they will address this

Torvean · 14/12/2021 22:22

Novavax will be approved. Said around 8 weeks. That's next week fingers crossed. In Scotland Novavax it's still not on our app. So I just have 2 Pfizer. The registry ppl promised it will get added once approval is given.

I'm worried for those in Valneva.

I just went to my local walk in centre with all my paperwork. They were really good and it was straightforward. Had a booster jab no problem. I told my trial centre and they didn’t seem overly bothered, just that if it doesn’t get approved in the 8 weeks after my booster, then I will have to go for another jab if I want the double tick of an approved vaccine 🤦🏼‍♀️
Torvean · 15/12/2021 15:13

I'm not having another Pfizer. Nooo way.

Dreamer1989 · 15/12/2021 16:00

I got a text from my GP Surgery today, booked for a jab on Sunday - no idea if I will get through, but will take my paperwork and certificate anyway

ItsSnowJokes · 15/12/2021 16:16

So had my telephone consultation with the gp today and have my sickness meds and painkillers on standby for January. He was amazing again so I really can't complain about him. He did say its a really tough decision for the 2nd Pfizer but with the new variant it's probably for the best to get it done. He did say a booster may be required if Novavax isn't approved by April time.

Torvean · 15/12/2021 19:21

Good luck @ItsSnowJokes. I got 0 advice. I'm hoping the 8 week approval for Novavax is correct.

Have you contacted your GP? I hope they can do something for you xxx
Torvean · 15/12/2021 22:24

I did contact my gp. They were useless. I had to beg for anti-sickness pills. Took 5 days. I've had 2 Pfizer now. I won't get a 3rd. Scot Gov can go jump.
Novavax released some results today

gazzaconns · 17/12/2021 14:47

WHO approval apparently.

KeepingOnKeepingUp · 17/12/2021 16:07

That's really good news. It's been a real headache and I have had many moments where I wished I hadn't signed up to the trial, but actually if Novavax increases rollout in countries that are lagging, I will consider it all worth it.

www.reuters.com/markets/europe/novavax-covid-19-vaccine-could-gain-european-who-approval-next-week-ft-2021-12-16/

EU approval may come up soon. Was wondering what is happening to the UK approval. I thought that Novavax had missed the boat, but it appears that the world needs more vaccines for a long while. Despite the fiasco, I really want Novavax to play a part in this fight. Otherwise, our participation in the trial would come to nothing.

QueenOfThorns · 18/12/2021 16:48

Glad to hear that things are finally progressing with regulatory approval. This could make a huge difference to the Covax programme.

Just got boostered with Pfizer because a neighbour who’s a GP had a spare. Hopefully I won’t regret this, but Moderna and I didn’t get on brilliantly!

JuergenSchwarzwald · 18/12/2021 17:43

I was wondering what had happened with this because I thought they had started manufacturing doses quite a long time ago, and they'll go to waste if it's not approved. Quite apart from the hassle those who did the trial have endured.

Dreamer1989 · 19/12/2021 12:25

Got fed up of waiting for the clinical trial team to get back to me, so I followed the link the GP surgery sent me and went elsewhere. I explained my circumstances re Novavax, and the GP onsite explained that they had to treat me as being unvaccinated, and therefore this was my first Pfizer dose, and I need to come back in 8 weeks for another dose. Not sure that I will, bit confused but at least in my head I am boostered!
