Current turn around time for NHS PCR?

isitjustlockdown · 29/09/2021 15:58

My DD (18 + double vaccinated)) and I are due to go away for a UK weekend break this weekend, leaving Friday lunchtime.

DD started feeling unwell during this morning and we took her down for a PCR test at a drive in centre this afternoon.

Does anyone have experience of the current turn around times for results?

Her school has a bout of colds at the moment, so fingers crossed it's just that, but obviously we need a definite answer before we can go away.

Getting annoyed waiting for my daughter's now. Posted Tuesday, confirmed delivered on Tuesday evening. Still no results. Multiple negative lfts from her, and other family members. I just want her back at school. This is West Yorkshire.

Catcheronthesly · 02/10/2021 13:05

Has anyone had a negative PCR, but has positive LFT’s?

Nc967125 · 02/10/2021 13:25

Tested 6pm Monday, results back 11.30am Tuesday

SFields118 · 02/10/2021 13:26

Positive result after 36 hours. London.

Spacemonkey2016 · 02/10/2021 13:29

I am currently at 32 hours and waiting. Essex. To be fair, between my DCs and I, out of the 5 tests we've had, this one's taken the longest, so I shouldn't grumble too much.

karenm51 · 02/10/2021 13:36

Yes, DS had clear positive LFT on Monday, and he did a PCR the same day which came back negative. He has had a positive LFT every day since, getting increasingly darker, and he has now developed symptoms. He did a second postal PCR on Wednesday, which was confirmed delivered on Thursday morning, but still waiting on the results.

Reports of positive LFTs followed by negative PCRs are everywhere at the moment, lots of others at his school have had this situation and have returned to school following the negative PCR results because that is the official guidance - it’s a bit of a shambles!

karenm51 · 02/10/2021 13:37

Sorry, that was a response to @Catcheronthesly

Catcheronthesly · 02/10/2021 13:45

Thank you @karenm51. I’ll do another LFT in a bit. I am ill, just cold/bug symptoms but now have a negative. I think I’ll book another PCR.....

Bagamoyo1 · 02/10/2021 13:57

32 hours
East Midlands
Positive

Sadless · 02/10/2021 14:12

Took my son at 6.30 last results back a hour ago. It was a test centre and in the North West.

Sal

Sadless · 02/10/2021 14:12

Sorry last night

karenm51 · 02/10/2021 15:26

@Catcheronthesly Update for you - second PCR was positive! It was obvious really, with the multiple positive LFTs and the symptoms, but I am very glad I didn’t send him back to school on the strength of the first PCR result

Catcheronthesly · 02/10/2021 15:44

@karenm51 oh no, I hope he’s feeling ok?
I’ve just called the helpline and they think it’s a false negative so I have to do another! This isn’t very well publicised - I think people are taking the PCR as gospel!

JanglyBeads · 02/10/2021 20:00

Just came back to say, don’t necessarily believe the “up to” times they tell you at the test centre. We’re East Mids, and I was told it would take up to FIVE days when I tested yesterday morning. In fact I got the (positive) result in 29 hours.

BlueberrySugar · 02/10/2021 20:05

We went to a drive through on a Saturday at 10am and had the results by midnight.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 02/10/2021 20:09

Manchester. Took son to a walk-through on Wednesday 5pm, results back in 26 hours. Took ourselves to a drive-through on Friday at 11am, results back in 24 hours.

flomp · 03/10/2021 07:47

Just to update ours came back (negative) this morning - 94 hours!
