For those of us increasingly concerned by government policy and in particular the sidelining of science and the JCVI in relation to the mass vaccination of children, I thought I would put my head above the parapet to say that you are not as alone as the media makes you feel. There are many of us questioning and desperately worried about where this ends. So I thought I would list a few places where I found some solace and confirmation that DH and I were not the only ones feeling the way we did. For the left-leaning, a good, not too depressing place to start is Left Lockdown Sceptics. A totally different take on life outside the middle class bubble of neurosis that is fed to us daily. For the religious (or not) Irreverend is brilliant. Their podcasts are measured, and thoughtful. For the more right wing, The Daily Sceptic allows discussion of all coronavirus issues and has reports from a very measured and sensible doctor. On that note, for NHS - lovers, look up the Nurse who asks Questions, or Dr Sam White. For those interested in the law, Law or Fiction is a good place to start. To meet a vast array of very diverse people, try a Stand in the Park - people gathering on green spaces to support each other. Or if you're near a city, find out about protest marches. Media blackouts make them hard to find but hundreds of thousands have marched in London on the last Saturday of the month for ages now. Speaking of protests, the French have got it nailed as ever. From Paris, through Marseille, from Clermont Ferrand to tiny villages where people gather for protest picnics (of course!) These are horrible times and the feeling of isolation has made it very hard to bear, and I hope this helps others who feel alone.

@Amirite

Thank you, I needed to read this today. It’s like a new religion these days, which side of this argument you’re on and spitting venom at those that don’t agree with you. I also recommend checking out Russel Brand (of all people, I know!) but he has been great on you tube looking at both sides of the argument and encourages you to think about making your own mind up and not blindly following the government.
Try being in Australia at the moment. I feel like the whole country has lost it’s mind.

I’ve been called a child killer on social media for wanting borders to open and children to go back to school at 80% vaccinated!

Wanting the end to state border closure means that you are wishing death upon your family and are some kind of sociopath. It’s as though nothing else but Covid matters and all balance and perspective has been lost.

@Peteycat

"Good to know you can find a targeted anti-vax group whatever your personal interests are though (although when you peel back you'll notice they're all the same people anyway grin )"

Ugh.

Any response at all? @Peteycat

I gave examples of the issues surrounding Sam White and his claims, and said I'd be happy to go into detail about the others if anyone is interested.

I also pointed out there are many credible scientists who think there is debate to be had about vaccinating teens and it may not be worthwhile offering it to this group, and linked the to BMJ/MRC-IEU Covid Known Unknowns seminar which has several presentations on this.

Copied and pasted from above - do you see the red flags suggesting why this person may not be a credible source @Peteycat?

Sam White is an ex-GP who has lost his medical license for spreading Mike Yeadon's misinformation (ie., vaccines are being used to kill people off) and profiting from this misinformation by directing people to his holistic medicine business. In his most recent gofundme he also claimed his bank account had been hacked and money stolen

🤣 I never accused you of name changing![/quote]
I never said you did.
I meant you could look at my past posts and tell me where I've shown myself to be a lockdown fanatic, or where I spread doom and gloom.
Or, otherwise, that's 2 more lies on your rather hefty slate of accusations against other people in the last few days.

Squleamish · 14/09/2021 10:44

Thank you, @HitchhikersGuide. Good post.

There are so many of us out there. Far more than we're led to believe. Stay strong!

ollyollyoxenfree · 14/09/2021 10:50

When despite being a fervent anti-vaxxer and Covid-denialist you've managed to annoy Vernon Coleman, I think you know something has gone deeply wrong.

He wants the donated money to fund the resistance!

Today, I wrote to Dr White saying this:

‘Because I promoted you, I’m getting questions about the money you’ve raised. I think people want to know what’s happening to it all.’

I hope that Dr Sam White will return all the money he has raised – and that he will immediately stop asking people for money. The Resistance Movement is desperate for funds and I believe it is vital that any money available is spent wisely and quickly in ways which will help further our cause, promote the truth and save the vulnerable and the children.

You could try reading the Telegraph? They publish loads of HART group shit. Molly Kingsley of Us4Them has a bloody column with them.

I don't think you're brave, oppressed and silenced if you have a regular column in a major newspaper.

Hmm

@Peteycat

I have given valid reasons that suggest Sam White is not a good source of information.

I've said I'm happy to do the same for the other individuals listed if you're interested.

I have directed you to resources where credible experts are debating various government policies including vaccinating teens.

Not sure how this constitutes spam or why you're refusing to engage?

HitchhikersGuide · 14/09/2021 11:15

I thought I should just come back on the thread as should have said that I can't cope with reading coronavirus threads on mumsnet so wasn't intending to take part in any 'discussion'.
I have just been struggling so much but have been helped by knowing I'm not alone. It took me months to find like-minded people and those months of feeling as if I was going mad were very hard so I just started the thread to give a pointer to others who felt as hopeless as I did.

If you're looking for balanced view in the media, it can be hard if you have reservations about vaccinations, because of people like Kingsley and Pearson in the Telegraph. @ollyollyoxenfree has posted some good info for those looking for it.
herecomesthsun · 14/09/2021 11:19

there's no need to feel hopeless Smile

the one shot of vaccine is safer than getting covid

and you can opt out of having it anyway

all the other people getting vaccinated will make education less disrupted for your child as well

so relax and have a nice day

I am sorry you are struggling and feeling alone Flowers

Please consider that this is the exact state the anti-vaccine contingents aim to exploit.

These webinars are good - they're a platform for a wide range of experts with opposing (but credible) views who are consulted and present. They've covered vaccination of children, school policies, death/dying and many other topics.

ollyollyoxenfree · 14/09/2021 11:22

Vaccine passports, mental health, "zero" COVID etc etc

They've got ones coming up on social care, the origins of COVID.

HitchhikersGuide · 14/09/2021 11:29

Apologies - one last thing before I run away again: I do not necessarily support everything said by each person or organisation I listed. These were literally only pointers to where people struggling as I was can start their own search. The thread was meant to be 'what it says on the tin': you are not alone. There is a very diverse cross section of society which is extremely concerned ethically, legally, scientifically, politically, economically etc.

Can I also add that it is very difficult for people to work out what is reliable information on the internet.

It is so confusing when different organisations say different things.

Starting with a reliable organisation like the BMJ is a good beginning, as they are an independently run body who exist to promote good health.

Alternatively, the Royal Medical Colleges, such as the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, have a lot of information, also written by experts in their fields, and this may be reassuring. They are also independent organisations.

Another source that is scientifically very good is the National Institute of Health in America. This has a lot of health-related information put on there for a wide audience, as it is technically very good, but can also be read by lay people and is a wonderful public health measure, spreading scientifically reliable information about health

There is a great desire to help people these days have a more empowered role in their health care and those of their families.

I'd hope this would be if anything a tool that relieves anxiety, but if anyone is feeling anxious there is very good information about how to manage this on the Royal College of Psychiatrists' website. I'd be happy to post or message links if anyone would like some.

Best wishes.

Being in denial about the existence of covid doesn't make it go away.

If you want to spread disinformation don't expect people not to respond with facts. If you want to live in an echo chamber you could always create your own private group.

beentoldcomputersaysno · 14/09/2021 12:52

@herecomesthsun good post, well said.

On what grounds /basis are people exploiting people? Is that your newcterm for a different opinion?

Amirite · 14/09/2021 13:41

Sigh… these responses are exactly what I’m talking about. Why do we have to resort to name calling/ stereotyping here? I’m not an anti vaxxer or covid denier thanks, these types of arguments really don’t do much for getting people on side. I believe that there is much more to life than just covid, I want to live and want my kids to be able to to live and not just exist. Why can’t we have a balanced grown up discussion as opposed to a mud slinging match calling each other names?
