For those of us increasingly concerned by government policy and in particular the sidelining of science and the JCVI in relation to the mass vaccination of children, I thought I would put my head above the parapet to say that you are not as alone as the media makes you feel. There are many of us questioning and desperately worried about where this ends. So I thought I would list a few places where I found some solace and confirmation that DH and I were not the only ones feeling the way we did. For the left-leaning, a good, not too depressing place to start is Left Lockdown Sceptics. A totally different take on life outside the middle class bubble of neurosis that is fed to us daily. For the religious (or not) Irreverend is brilliant. Their podcasts are measured, and thoughtful. For the more right wing, The Daily Sceptic allows discussion of all coronavirus issues and has reports from a very measured and sensible doctor. On that note, for NHS - lovers, look up the Nurse who asks Questions, or Dr Sam White. For those interested in the law, Law or Fiction is a good place to start. To meet a vast array of very diverse people, try a Stand in the Park - people gathering on green spaces to support each other. Or if you're near a city, find out about protest marches. Media blackouts make them hard to find but hundreds of thousands have marched in London on the last Saturday of the month for ages now. Speaking of protests, the French have got it nailed as ever. From Paris, through Marseille, from Clermont Ferrand to tiny villages where people gather for protest picnics (of course!) These are horrible times and the feeling of isolation has made it very hard to bear, and I hope this helps others who feel alone.

Thanks, OP, it's always good to have alternative points of view, it can feel suffocating sometimes. Also good for the alternatives not to be raving conspiracy theory sites!

Bluepinkyellowcakes · 14/09/2021 08:25

Will check those out, thank you Smile

Teateaandmoretea · 14/09/2021 08:47

We aren’t alone for sure. You only have to talk to proper people off mumsnet to realise that.

Unfortunately MN has been very one-sided throughout this and many posts have disappeared. Possibly this one will be next.

Teateaandmoretea · 14/09/2021 08:49

Just to add a lot of sensible mumsnetters who have been around for years have pretty much given up on the site, meaning it has become an echo chamber.

Thanks @HitchhikersGuide, very interesting information

Thanks for sharing information in a balanced and calm way, without judgement. We should all listen to a plurality of voices.

Ibruprofenismydrugofchoice · 14/09/2021 08:59

Thank you for this OP.
Sadly MN have made it perfectly clear that they only accept the official narrative, and anyone questioning it is accused of ‘misinformation’ so I suspect this we’ll be deleted.

*will be

beattieedny · 14/09/2021 08:59

Thanks for this, op. I had an adverse reaction to the vaccine myself (confirmed by GP and consultant) although I would still tell any adult to have it if at all possible. However the 12-15 thing is a nonsense. Especially if one has sons, for whom there is a small risk of myocarditis vs miniscule risk frim the illness itself. I'll be telling mine that I advise they avoid it.

As much as I may feel giving the choice to vaccinate teenagers is a good thing, you would have thought here, of all places, parents should be able to discuss their concerns about their children.
PiddleOfPuppies · 14/09/2021 09:09

Thank you, OP. Unfortunately I expect this post will be deleted for spreading positivity as that doesn't seem to be allowed - the long running theme of scaremongering (see "Will there be another lockdown?") runs right through. I avoid the coronavirus topic on here as it isn't helpful or supportive. I'll check out the Law or Fiction link, that looks right up my street. I haven't yet marched or protested, but I have written to my MP.

Worldgonecrazy · 14/09/2021 09:15

We are not alone. One only has to step away from the screen, on to public transport and into the shops to see the huge numbers sick of the restrictions and control.

As Ghandi said, we must be the change we want to see.

FflosFfantastig · 14/09/2021 09:22

I have bookmarked the various sources before the thread disappears. You are not alone. Just because our voice isn't allowed to be heard doesn't mean we don't have valid concerns.

Peteycat · 14/09/2021 09:30

Oh I love you @HitchhikersGuide!

You are the voice of reason this morning for me!

A thread I was involved with was deleted, which was spreading positive thoughts. I'm not sure why they are deleting these threads, when the lockdown fanatics can be so vicious. Everything you say is correct, we are not alone, even though at times it feels like that when the lockdown fanatics start.

I'm exhausted with the neurosis and fear. I'm so worried about the vaccination for children, but I get accused on other threads of being obtuse, selfish etc. One poster openly said that she thinks unvaccinated people should be denied health care and sign a waiver.

Wierd times we are living through but if we stick together, we will be OK.

underneaththeash · 14/09/2021 09:31

You do need to read other stuff though too OP for balance. You can easily fall down a "covid-sceptic" hole and remember the algorithms google uses mean that once you start searching for associated terms, you get more of them. The majority of which are utter bollacks.

Dr Sam White should have been suspended - having the vaccine is in the best interests of the vast majority of the adult population, but as the average IQ is 100, many people don't have the intellectual capacity to understand the relative benefits and risks and the majority of these websites really don't help.

Morning Petey.
You're not the boss of MN.
As you have scattergunned Covid threads with your misinformation and conspiracy theories, other people can come onto threads you like to try and debunk the lies.

Amirite · 14/09/2021 09:44

Thank you, I needed to read this today. It’s like a new religion these days, which side of this argument you’re on and spitting venom at those that don’t agree with you. I also recommend checking out Russel Brand (of all people, I know!) but he has been great on you tube looking at both sides of the argument and encourages you to think about making your own mind up and not blindly following the government.

OP, the sources you are sending people to are not credible.

There are plenty of scientists who think there is debate to be had about vaccinating teens and it may not be worthwhile offering vaccination. See the recent BMJ/MRC-IEU seminar (their COVID "known unknowns" series).

Sam White is an ex-GP who has lost his medical license for spreading Mike Yeadon's crap (ie., vaccines are being used to kill people off) and profiting from this misinformation by directing people to his holistic medicine business. In his most recent gofundme he also claimed his bank account had been hacked and money stolen Hmm

Lockdown sceptics is equally problematic- happy to go into detail about some of their authors. Please do some reading on the people who contribute to this resources, and direct yourself to credible scientists (the BMJ seminar has several), who are good sources of information.
