Cannons ??? Vaccines. Cannons sounds more fun though.
Flu nose things this week. No clue who is having that either

RedToothBrush · 14/09/2021 18:19

You get a cannon in your arm will be an interesting one to explain to parents and kids!!!

mumsneedwine · 14/09/2021 18:23

@RedToothBrush 😂 love the idea teachers have anything to do with vaccine delivery in schools. I'm not allowed to give an opinion because that's not my role (otherwise they'd all get jabbed tomorrow- but then I'm a science teacher !).

Howshouldibehave · 14/09/2021 18:26
@Howshouldibehave thanks for explaining that teachers won't have anything to do with vaccinating. Never have. All done by school nursing service. And letters via email.
I certainly won't be giving advice ! As a teacher I'll have no clue who has had cannons or not. None of my business. Although neither was supervising testing but I ended up having to do that.
Yep-logistics will be organised by the school but they won’t be doing debates about it on assembly!

mumsneedwine · 14/09/2021 18:27

@Howshouldibehave mainly because COVID does not exist in schools. It's far too scared of a detention. Hence the complete lack of any measures to prevent its transmission 🥴

mumsneedwine · 14/09/2021 18:27

(awaits first teacher bashing post that I should resign if I don't like it 😂)

noblegiraffe · 14/09/2021 18:28

So if I (hypothetically) said ‘Form 10B, if you’re having the jab your slot is 10:30 in the hall’ that’s coercing kids into being vaccinated?

I’m wondering what the concern is about mentioning logistics.

bumbleymummy · 14/09/2021 18:35

Maybe because children might not want to be the only ones left sitting in the room while their classmates head off for the vaccine?

Tealightsandd · 14/09/2021 18:38

@bumbleymummy

Well then they can use the time to go to the toilet.
noblegiraffe · 14/09/2021 18:40

They wouldn’t be, they aren’t taught in form groups at my school.

When it’s HPV vaccine day I have kids coming in and out of my class at intervals, no idea who hasn’t had it.

Lostinacloud · 14/09/2021 18:47

@Silverswirl you are my spirit animal! I have been saying and fearing exactly the same as you for months.

Howshouldibehave · 14/09/2021 19:32

@bumbleymummy

I’m sure a teacher would be in there with them-they’d be quite safe!
3asAbird · 14/09/2021 19:36

Maybe wrong interpretation of my words or maybe coercion was wrong word for me to use.

I am on the whole pro vax had 2 jabs myself and support my 15 year old having vaccine and she wants it.
I belive in parent choice.
I'm not for covid passport or mandatory vaccines.

I think this vacvine is different.
Maybe if been offered months ago and everyone was on the same page.
But dragging their feets and conflicting views of jcvi and cmo they have made it more controversial than in might of been.
They announce this with backdrop of rising cases with vaxxed people.
I don't dispute vaccines can help protect the individual but not sure how effective they are at blocking transmission.
Chris whitty himself said it won't stop disruption in school necessarily and other measures will be needed.
But there are no other measures in place to keep schools safe like masks or smaller classes or ventilation or very least reinstate same household isolating.
Vaccines by themselves either booster or 12 to 15s won't stop the spread.
Plus they acting far too late by time they jabbed and takes 21 today it be October half term and the virus would have spread thorough out schools half a term as we know from alpha JVt said it did bleed into older age groups the same older age groups that may have waning immunity and need a booster.

So if we not convinced health benefits
Mainly because they denied kids get it ir get that ill and jcvi disagree.
It won't ease disruption in schools.
It won't make ever day life easier or more convenient we don't operate covid passports 12 plus like France and I dare so will add extra travel stress to British teens.
As they won't be fully vaccinated.

The fact the science seems to vary so much from each country is baffling surely uk / eu should be the same.

I do know school staff don't vaccinate but they been forced to test is bad enough.
I don't envy any parents trying make sense of all the contradicting information put out by the government as so many u turns and other sources.
I don't believe any parent who says no is automatically an anti vaxxeer.

But the reason I don't feel should be done in school is school have done enough.
They contact traced, tested, got horrible emails when bubbles burst and had so many non keyworkers take the piss.
The mention of gilick competence test in theory means parent doesn't consent but teen does and the vaccine goes ahead on school premises and the poor head senior leadership team once again get loads abuse from parents.
Health and school should be separated.
Set us laods vaccine drop ins like they have for adults then the argument peer pressure can't be brought up.

Barbie222 · 14/09/2021 19:40

@bumbleymummy

Maybe because children might not want to be the only ones left sitting in the room while their classmates head off for the vaccine?
Is that really a reason to remove the choice from the whole peer group though?
bumbleymummy · 14/09/2021 19:52

No. Just a reason not to make it so public during class.

Silverswirl · 14/09/2021 19:59
@Silverswirl you are my spirit animal! I have been saying and fearing exactly the same as you for months.
Ah thank you. Yes me too. I’m honestly baffled about how so many people are typing the word choice when it comes to this decision.
Yes they claim it’s a choice now, but for how long realistically will it be a choice for many teens and parents

mumsneedwine · 14/09/2021 20:00

But at secondary most kids aren't taught in tutor groups. It's chaos on vaccine days as they are in and out during several lessons. Or the whole lot go and some just walk straight through.
Want it, have it, don't then don't. But why should others take the right away because they don't want it ? Bit hypocritical !

mumsneedwine · 14/09/2021 20:01

@Tealightsandd 😂😂. Loo photos will single them out then.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 14/09/2021 20:05

I think this is all becoming increasingly unethical. The health benefits of the vaccine are marginal for 12-15 year olds based on current data. The press conference talked about restrictions maybe being needed with a not-so-subtle subtext of 'get your children vaccinated or else'. When vaccination of 12-15 year olds does not result in cases dropping significantly, what then? A call to vaccinate younger children?

Meanwhile we are told people haven't been quarantining properly, test and protect is defunct, the new definition of close contacts is non-existent (no contact in our out of school for children unless a sleepover was involved in my area), and there is no requirement to isolate (especially if you are a key worker).

I despair that most people haven't realised it will never be enough and there is no end point. Maybe the answer to not overwhelming the NHS is stop spending so much money on Covid and spend the money on addressing poverty and deprivation, encouraging healthy lifestyles, tackling obesity and the myriad of other reasons people suffer poorer health outcomes.

bumbleymummy · 14/09/2021 20:15

@ADreadedSunnyDay cases in the U.K. are already dropping.

bumbleymummy · 14/09/2021 20:15

Without vaccinating all 12-15 yr olds.

noblegiraffe · 14/09/2021 20:27

Infection rates are increasing in kids.

bumbleymummy · 14/09/2021 20:30

Testing has also substantially increased in children. So are infections actually increasing in them or are we just detecting more of them than we were over the summer?

ollyollyoxenfree · 14/09/2021 20:35

@bumbleymummy

You genuinely think this is something that has gone over the heads of all experts consulting on whether to offer to teens?
noblegiraffe · 14/09/2021 20:39

@bumbleymummy

Infections are actually increasing. I'm referring to ONS data which is random testing and nothing to do with the testing you are referring to.
