DD will be first in the queue. She doesn't want her big brother to die, or to be shut in his house for the rest of his life.

herecomesthsun · 13/09/2021 14:50

The immunosuppressed kids 12-15 were offered 2 doses, but the second won't be till October at the earliest, and we will be keen to follow consultant advice on whether we should go with the second.

enterparentone · 13/09/2021 14:52

@TheLovelinessOfDemons

If her brother is vulnerable and she's over 12, she's already eligible.
halcyondays · 13/09/2021 14:54

I don’t think they know how long immunity will last if you only have one dose, so I really hope they will be able to get a second dose as well.

HSHorror · 13/09/2021 14:54

So glad!
Though would have preferred the 2 doses.
I would have thought hospitalization risk for kids is higher than the myocarditis risks.
The effect is that any that dont get infected dont pass it on. Which can be up to 60%. So a large difference in cases.

onthinice · 13/09/2021 14:55

Bbc say :

It will now be up to ministers whether to accept the recommendation of the four CMOs.

If they agree, children will be offered the Pfizer jab

Explosivefarts · 13/09/2021 15:00

It’s not for us when evidence shows teenage boys are more at risk from complications due to vaccine than actual Covid. But good for those who want the choice .

bumbleymummy · 13/09/2021 15:02

Seems a bit silly. We know that one dose does very little with the delta variant and recent reports have suggested 50-70% of teens could already have antibodies anyway.

Comedycook · 13/09/2021 15:04

I have a teenage ds and I won't allow him to have it if the risk of complications from the vaccine is greater than the risk of covid to him. I really don't give a dam about the greater good. I think kids have done enough

edwinbear · 13/09/2021 15:04

I also won't be having 12 yr old DS vaccinated due to the increased risk of myocarditis in boys. I am pleased the option is there though for those who would like their DC vaccinated.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 13/09/2021 15:06

Some good news, for a change.

Worldgonecrazy · 13/09/2021 15:10

This was decided in early August so why is anyone still making news of it?

But yes, follow the science…..

illuyankas · 13/09/2021 15:10

Then it's great for teens who already have antibody, since the vaccine boost the immunity. And the myocarditis is mostly associated with 2nd dose, so there aren't much argument for teen having one dose. Some immunity is better than no immunity for who hasn't had the infection too, don't you agree?
Explosivefarts · 13/09/2021 15:11

Glad to see I’m not the only parent of a boy refusing the vaccine .

Marguerite2000 · 13/09/2021 15:12

It makes sense to me. Firstly it's believed that at least 50% of children have already been infected. Infection + 1 dose should be sufficient.Secondly, healthy children have robust immune systems, and one dose should be enough to tip the balance.
In any case, the situation will be monitored, they can always offer the 2nd dose in a few months time if it's needed.

trumpisagit · 13/09/2021 15:12

@illuankas
I can't open the link, can you tell me where this is from?

I have read up, a little, on it, and I am yet to be convinced it is beneficial for younger boys, in particular.

SilenceOfThePrams · 13/09/2021 15:13

To those of you staying you won’t be allowing your children to have it, can I just point out it’ll be their decision not yours?

Older children (and 12-15 count as older) can consent or withhold consent for vaccinations and override your concerns in these things. Same holds true for anyone planning to match their child down to have it against their wishes - it’s very much their choice not yours.

So if you have strong views either way then I hope your children share them.

Interesting views locally - children in one school will be queuing up to take it whilst children in another are all deeply suspicious of it apparently.

Mojoj · 13/09/2021 15:15

My boys will definitely not be getting it. Children don't need to be vaccinated.

seb342 · 13/09/2021 15:15

So "A child's decision will prevail in the case of conflict" when it comes to the vaccine but I've still got to sign forms to let my 15 year old travel to another school for a netball match? I'm sure if she's capable of deciding to have a vaccine she's capable of deciding to play netball. You don't have to be a conspiracy theorist to see that something isn't right about this.

whatthejiggeries · 13/09/2021 15:15

Not a chance will my kids be getting it

Tittyfilarious81 · 13/09/2021 15:16

My DS will absolutely not be getting this vaccine

Explosivefarts · 13/09/2021 15:17

Exactly I have got to sign permission slips so the school can take photos of him . But he can over rule a decision on this at 12 years old. Something doesn’t add up.
trumpisagit · 13/09/2021 15:20

This is from the Guardian with regard to 2 doses :
"They estimate the rate of myocarditis after two shots of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine to be 162.2 cases per million for healthy boys aged 12 to 15 and 94 cases per million for healthy boys aged 16 to 17. The equivalent rates for girls were 13.4 and 13 cases per million, respectively"

I would like to see breakdown by age and sex, of myocarditis cases for one shot of vaccine, if anyone has found that.

Explosivefarts · 13/09/2021 15:20

I will trust the JCVI rather then Jason Leitch

noblegiraffe · 13/09/2021 15:21

When they offered the vaccine to 16-17 JCVI said that one dose reduced the risk of hospitalisation with covid by 80%, possibly more for that age group.

No idea of the figures for 12+, but I don’t think there should be the automatic assumption that one dose is useless.
