And are going somewhere indoors, like the shops or a play centre, are you still running back to the house to get it or not?

Just curious what people tend to be doing.

It feels like a whole new mask etiquette is happening now!

No, I don’t wear a mask in shops by choice.

Peanutsandchilli · 03/09/2021 10:53

No, I don't take one anywhere now. I've had enough of not being able to communicate with people whilst feeling like I'm suffocating.

LegendaryReady · 03/09/2021 10:53

What do you feel that actually achieves?! A cardigan is hardly going to stop covid in its tracks.

Why would it do a less good job than any other piece of fabric?

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 03/09/2021 10:54

No but I don't wear a mask unless I'm specifically asked.

QueenofKattegat · 03/09/2021 10:57

No, don't wear one at all.

ChaToilLeam · 03/09/2021 10:57

I’m on a train in Scotland and everyone around me is wearing a mask. Always have a spare or two on me just in case. A friend of mine just contracted Covid despite being double vaxxed, I am not inclined to get too complacent.

Augusta1 · 03/09/2021 10:59

I’m not wearing one at all so don’t have one to run back for.

Seesawmummadaw · 03/09/2021 10:59

I’m still wearing one. If I forget one I wouldn’t go in the shop or wherever.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/09/2021 11:00

Firmly in the habit of always having a couple on me now.
Most shops I go into sell them so if I did forget I’d just buy another before going around the shop.

UpstreamSwimmer · 03/09/2021 11:01

The evidence for wearing masks just isn't there. In not a single country can you track the pandemic's wax and wane with the mask mandate. Why wear a mask when it clearly doesn't do anything?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/09/2021 11:01

Yes, and as someone whose medication means that the vaccines are less effective, I'm now being excluded from places like shopping centres and public transport that felt relatively safe.

I'm an active member of society who works and volunteers and this feels very disabling. I'm being excluded now from society. And all because people can't be arsed to be considerate and the government have thrown people like me under the bus.

NotQuiteUsual · 03/09/2021 11:02

I'm only wearing them in my local charity shops as the staff are all quite elderly and wearing masks still themselves.

FFP3/N95s are very effective at protecting the wearer.

AuntieMarys · 03/09/2021 11:03

Haven't worn one since it became personal choice.

idontlikealdi · 03/09/2021 11:03

I'm in the hairdressers now, no one is wearing a mask. The only place I am wearing one is in an Uber and on London transport as you have to.

I thought that ordinary cotton / disposable masks don't really protect the wearer (except the FFP3 / N95s) but they do protect people around them?

I wouldn't be wearing them for myself really.

No, cotton masks don’t.
FFP3/N95 protect both wearer and others.

My husband is CEV so, although whole family double vaxxed, we need to continue to take personal precautions.

WhoWants2Know · 03/09/2021 11:08

I go back to get one if I can, or pick one up at the nearest shop.

Jeez, so everyone wearing cotton / disposable masks isn't actually helping?? Yikes. That's all I've had throughout!

When I wrote about masks I meant the ubiquitous cotton ones, not medical grade masks. The cottons don't protect anyone.

SilverGlassHare · 03/09/2021 11:09

Fewer and fewer people are wearing them where I live. Supermarkets and very small shops seem the exception.

Magspy · 03/09/2021 11:10
@ifonly4

That is….it would just make me cringe for you. I know someone who puts a cardigan over their face probably doesn’t care, but I’d think you were bonkers.
Bit harsh and myopic.

People got into the habit of doing things like this in times and places where the requirement was to "cover nose and mouth" and shops and other places requiring covering were actually telling people to cover with whatever they had, for example while buying a mask.

Now many places in the world have moved to requiring a mask and often a minimal level of protection built into the mask (e.g., N95 or FFP2). If the place someone lives doesn't specify a required mask type, or a mask at all, I can see why people would still think covering mouth and nose however they can is better than nothing. It's still a physical barrier.

ILookAtTheFloor · 03/09/2021 11:11

I don't wear one now.

I think the evidence for them is weak.

I'd wear one in a hospital or other medical setting, for pure theatre purposes.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/09/2021 11:11

Still wearing mine, never forgotten it. Have to wear them all night at work (care home)

We’ve had to be very cautious from the beginning so have only ever used FFP3s.

You’re right, cotton masks aren’t much use.
