And are going somewhere indoors, like the shops or a play centre, are you still running back to the house to get it or not?

Just curious what people tend to be doing.

It feels like a whole new mask etiquette is happening now!

If I forget my mask I turn around and go get a mask. I keep a couple of disposable masks in my bag and a pack in my car as backup though so the odds of being truly without are low.

GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr · 03/09/2021 13:21

So you're okay, then, if the nurse that treats you also wears a mask "for pure theatre purposes", or your surgeon, in actual theatre? What if your surgeon decides not to play along with the "theatre" in the theatre?

This? Still? Really?

Pootle40 · 03/09/2021 13:25

I'm in Scotland and don't wear one. I carry it in case a fuss is kicked up.

BoomChicka · 03/09/2021 13:29

Presuming you're in Scotland OP?

I'm in England so they went in the bin on 19th July, thank goodness.

Thewiseoneincognito · 03/09/2021 13:55

Mask, phone and keys, I’d have to be half asleep to forget either.

A walk around my town today, very few masks being worn but an awful lot of people sneezing and coughing, people seem to have forgotten to cover their mouths when doing either of those too.

I still can’t fathom the elderly or the over weight middle aged folk most at risk that are going maskless, they’re putting an awful lot of faith into the vaccines considering today’s breakdown of hospitalisations in the over 50s being 61% double vaccinated.

It beggars belief.

annlee3817 · 03/09/2021 13:57

I didn't when it stopped, but have started to again, not all the time as quickly hot into the habit of forgetting it, but do when I have it with me, just in case it makes someone else feel more comfortable

AlixandraTheGreat · 03/09/2021 13:57

This? Still? Really?

@GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr I was replying to this gem: "I'd wear one in a hospital or other medical setting, for pure theatre purposes" which is a far worse trope, IMO.

@ifonly4

I still feel like it's the right thing to do, so I'd go back. A couple of times recently when we've been out walking (have countryside very close) we've found ourselves wanting something to eat or drink and I haven't had a mask, so I've put my cardigan over my face while I have a quick look, or walk through to pub garden.
Same. Forgot my mask at school playground when doing school run last week - took off cardi and covered my mouth/nose area.
Peteycat · 03/09/2021 14:13

Why would you? Its not the law.

OliveTree75 · 03/09/2021 14:14

Same. Forgot my mask at school playground when doing school run last week - took off cardi and covered my mouth/nose area.

...why?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 03/09/2021 14:15

School playground…so presumably outside?!Confused

TwoBlueFish · 03/09/2021 14:17

I work in a cafe and I’d say 75% of customers today have not been wearing masks.

I am still wearing mine when I go to shops/restaurants and would probably not go in if I forgot.

clarkkentsglasses · 03/09/2021 14:32

You don't have to wear a mask anymore so why would you?

WeAreTheHeroes · 03/09/2021 14:37

I still wear one because it protects others from me potentially transmitting covid to them. The delta variant is more easily transmitted therefore why wouldn't you?

By changing the law the govt has put mask wearing into the hands of individuals.

BigPyjamas · 03/09/2021 14:45

I sometimes wear one, sometimes don't.

I do on busy public transport, I don't in normally busy shops. Depends who is in there, what I'm doing, how I feel.

I'd say 60-70% of people are wearing them where I live

ActonSquirrel · 03/09/2021 14:47

I haven't worn a mask since July. I would if required such as for a hospital appointment.

Penquinoa · 03/09/2021 14:48

Nope. I don't forget mostly. But most people aren't wearing them here.
I wear mine on the bus and at the checkout, and in crowds.
But in spacious shops with lots of room? Nah.

I suffered overwhelming anxiety the day masks weren't officially required, I wore it still because I couldn't bear the attention not wearing a mask would bring.
Thankfully more people are maskless by now, and just getting on with life, so it's easier.

I worked in retail through some of the various lockdowns, wearing a mask on the bus there, then at work.
If someone is coughing and sneezing etc and no mask then that does make me side eye them a little but in general most people don't go around doing that.

thenightsky · 03/09/2021 14:53

@idontlikealdi

I'm in the hairdressers now, no one is wearing a mask. The only place I am wearing one is in an Uber and on London transport as you have to.
I wish I could find a hairdresser who didn't insist on them.
Peteycat · 03/09/2021 14:56

"I'd say 60-70% of people are wearing them where I live"

Absolutel rubbish. No they are not.

TwilightSkies · 03/09/2021 14:56

You don't have to wear a mask anymore so why would you?

Because there’s a pandemic?
Because it might help vulnerable people feel more comfortable?
Because some people aren’t selfish?

Peteycat · 03/09/2021 14:57

"I still wear one because it protects others from me potentially transmitting covid to them. The delta variant is more easily transmitted therefore why wouldn't you?"

Because people don't want to wear them because they are crap and impractical.

By changing the law the govt has put mask wearing into the hands of individuals.

Peteycat · 03/09/2021 14:58

Paste fail there...

Basically people don't want to. They don't have to. They are impractical and annoying.

Peteycat · 03/09/2021 14:58

Why would you even ask why they wouldn't it's none of your business.

Peteycat · 03/09/2021 15:00

Because some people aren’t selfish?

Oh my... Not this again. Well YOU are selfish expecting people to wear them. There are loads of reasons why not to wear them but I'm not listing them because you should not be concerning yourself in other people's business.

grapewine · 03/09/2021 15:03

Doctor's and dentist's waiting rooms, that's it. In the beginning, when the rules changed here, I was like, "I'll still wear them in shops." That lasted for about two days ...

Got used to them fast but also reverted back quickly, and it is a relief not having to faff about with them anymore (as is being able to see other people's facial expressions).
