Has anyone else never had to isolate?

Family of 4 here - never had to isolate or take a test due to symptoms ourselves. It seems that this is very unusual, particularly as we live in one of the persistently worst hit towns/areas in the country.

Admittedly, both me and DH have predominantly worked from home but we have attended our workplaces aswell over the last 16 months and not been particularly careful in terms of social distancing etc when in work (my work brings me into contact with people who are key frontline workers too). We have been for days and meals out occasionally - both as a family and with friends. We have gone to the supermarket at least once a week since the pandemic started. 2 DC at high school aswell.

So it does seem we have been incredibly lucky to never been caught with isolations/potential symptoms.

Is this more common than I think?

Never isolated. Know lots of people who have had had to multiple times. Common denominator is kids....we don't have any at home.

Samcartys · 22/08/2021 12:42

Never had to isolate here. We are a family of 3. Both dh and I have worked all the way through (he’s in the building trade working in
People’s home and I work in the office of a food factory so dd attended nursery all the way though as I was classed as a key worker).
My dad, sister and her dh (all worked all the way through) and my pils (retired and semi retired) have also never had to isolate .

Gwenhwyfar · 22/08/2021 12:49

No, but then I don't have kids and have worked from home a lot although I've done everything else that was legal to do such as public transport, meeting with friends.

Siameasy · 22/08/2021 12:54

DH hasn’t and none of our wider families have. I’m not convinced that some of these relatives aren’t ignoring symptoms though. For instance one’s DC had a temperature, before tests were available and they didn’t isolate “oh but it’s not Covid”. Another was ill, claimed to have tested but I’m not sure I believe it
Many people I know have had close contacts and haven’t isolated cos they didn’t want to.
I was pleased to isolate as I had time off work

igelkott2021 · 22/08/2021 13:28

Yes us. We work from home and ds' sixth form college managed things very well (and I think he was fortunate to finish assessments before Delta really took hold).

DS tested a few times for college and DH tested a couple of times before visiting family etc and also did a PCR for a survey he was randomly invited to do, but I haven't needed to test at all.

We do know people who've had it. Not sure how they've picked it up - although in one case it was from a sports training camp in Spain! My boss's twins caught it at school.

igelkott2021 · 22/08/2021 13:31

We have never had the app though so only request would have ever come from the test and trace people, not the "ping

This is also true of us - DH and DS did not have the app, I did, but only to check in, but deleted it on 19th July.

shinynewapple21 · 22/08/2021 14:24

Not had to isolate due to contact but have been WFH since March 2020. Have done PCR when I had cold symptoms last year (negative) and LFT frequently due to visiting my mum. DS and his partner have had it but this was during lockdown and we don't live in the same house .

(I'm massively touching wood here that my first time isn't when I'm due to go on holiday!)

shinynewapple21 · 22/08/2021 14:25

Friends who have school aged DC

  • the children seem to be off isolating all the time though .
amicissimma · 22/08/2021 15:28

Five of us, all adults. 2 DCs now do LFTs from time to time if they judge it necessary. 1 DC did LFTs regularly for months last autumn/winter as part of a trial. DH did one PCR as part of a huge random trial. I do LFTs once or twice a week when I volunteer in a vaccine centre.

We've all been out and about, doing things, going to restaurants and cafes and seeing friends as regulations allow, shopping several times a week. DH and I have been to the theatre and stayed in hotels.

Between us, no positives, no symptoms and no isolations.

whatswithtodaytoday · 22/08/2021 15:39

No isolation because of close contact or burst bubbles, but our two year old has had six or seven Covid tests because of fever/cough. All negative, but that means 1-2 days of isolation.

Oh and at the beginning of the first lockdown we isolated for two weeks because we all had something - not sure if Covid or just a cold.

cultkid · 22/08/2021 15:41

Me

Hoppinggreen · 22/08/2021 15:43

Me
I have done quarantine after coming back from abroad though.
I have never had the app or checked in anywhere and I wfh

Watapalava · 22/08/2021 15:48

Never

Got 2 teens who’ve been sent home but even then I’vekwed them out

I have worked and socialised since day 1 last March - throughout. Never had positive test (only ever tested for travel) or been traced as contact

Watapalava · 22/08/2021 15:48

I’ve allowed

milveycrohn · 22/08/2021 15:49

I live in London. The only person I know who has had it (Jan 2021) caught from an unrelated hospital visit.
I have not had to isolate, and only had to take a test to visit someone in a Care Home.

Ragwort · 22/08/2021 15:55

No we haven't (family of 3 including a Uni student). I have been out and about the whole time, volunteering with very vulnerable people and working in retail. Never done a test either.

Boredmotherofone · 22/08/2021 15:56

My child had 2 isolations due to class members testing positive but one of them was 'cancelled!' One PCR test (neg) before returning to school after a temperature.

I've not had any isolations nor taken any PCR tests, only two precautionary LF tests.

Boredmotherofone · 22/08/2021 15:58

@Saladcreamormayo

I haven't and neither has my dp who has worked full time right throughout covid. Neither of us has ever done a covid test as never needed to, we live in a big city in the UK too.
You should've been doing precautionary LF tests Hmm
Tinkerbellfluffyboots79 · 22/08/2021 16:03

This was me till this week…symptoms thur
Pcr on Thursday positive on Friday
Lying on couch feeling pants.
I’ve been really careful too.

drawingbadge · 22/08/2021 16:38

We're in London with a 3yo and 3 adults, none of us have had to isolate. We're all wfh/sahm, but 3yo goes to nursery. Her class had to stay at home for a week a while back, due to a positive case but she didn't have to isolate. We've had 3 tests between us, no symptoms but needed to for surgery and to visit a school. We've not been especially careful - followed all the rules but have used public transport regularly except during the first lockdown, DD goes to toddler groups and we've been to indoor attractions, theatres, theme parks, restaurants, gym, taken four UK holidays. I've only used the app in the past when it's been a condition of entry, but turned it off after checking in. I've been double vaccinated since May and I took an antibody test a few months ago, which showed I hadn't had it in the past six months.

I don't know anyone directly who has tested positive, no one in my family has but only heard about 'friends of friends', and none of them had it seriously. I think some staff members/dc in DD's class tested positive although I don't 'know' them as such.

Claymorekick · 22/08/2021 18:41

Thanks for all the responses Smile seems it is more common that I thought to never isolated/been required to test!

I have friends who have had to test and isolate several times due to coughs - guess we have just been lucky as none of us have even had cold symptoms since Mar 2020 Confused

Watapalava · 22/08/2021 19:43

Op what I’ve found is that those who I know have isolated, have isolated many times

Some people are just happy to and I expect most are at home on full pay

I am paid fully to isolate yet never have

But 6 people in my workplace have isolated 3/4 times and others never

Yet I know for fact they socialise the least put of us all

wordsareveryunnecessary · 22/08/2021 20:10

3 in our house. No isolations

NeverForgetYourDreams · 22/08/2021 21:34

Our family. Not had to isolate and apart from the teen (for school) not yet had any tests as not had a need. Haven't been near anyone who tested positive - only know 6 who have and none are daily contacts but 'friends from afar'. Not a Covid denier, just been lucky don't know anyone in real life who has tested positive or anyone who has been near anyone who has tested positive.

aramox · 22/08/2021 23:15

None of us! Don't have the app turned on tho, kid on school but we wfh
