Has anyone else never had to isolate?

Family of 4 here - never had to isolate or take a test due to symptoms ourselves. It seems that this is very unusual, particularly as we live in one of the persistently worst hit towns/areas in the country.

Admittedly, both me and DH have predominantly worked from home but we have attended our workplaces aswell over the last 16 months and not been particularly careful in terms of social distancing etc when in work (my work brings me into contact with people who are key frontline workers too). We have been for days and meals out occasionally - both as a family and with friends. We have gone to the supermarket at least once a week since the pandemic started. 2 DC at high school aswell.

So it does seem we have been incredibly lucky to never been caught with isolations/potential symptoms.

Is this more common than I think?

We haven't isolated or taken a pcr test at all. We are a family of 4 adults, three of us working and the fourth a Uni student. Also live in an area that has been pretty high with cases. Feel lucky!

NiceTwin · 22/08/2021 06:33

We haven't either, family of 4.
Dh wfh, eldest works in a nursery, youngest in high school, I work part time in a school.
Live in an area that was always under local restrictions until this last opening up.

MindyStClaire · 22/08/2021 06:33

Between the four of us I've lost track of how many PCR tests we've done, but over ten anyway - two DC at nursery, I'm asthmatic so cough with every cold, and I got mastitis a couple of times last year and tested because of the fever. All negative though, and we've never been close contacts.

I can't quite believe we made it over a year without a nursery closure.

Only our son has had to self isolate for 5 days from sitting next to somebody with COVID. It was near the beginning when it took a few days to get tested which is why he had a shorter time period to do. All of our monthly tests with ONS for their survey for over a year have been negative and we do use the public transport system, go out and about, etc. Living in a city I feel it’s inevitable we will be exposed to it so just have to carry on.

Welliesandpyjamas · 22/08/2021 06:42

None of us.

3 DC in 2 schools.
DH in an early years class in school.
Me in work employing agency staff, often different every day.

Not a whiff

HungryHippo11 · 22/08/2021 06:45

Not quite. We nearly made it and then DD4 tested positive the day before the school holidays 🤦‍♀️

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 22/08/2021 06:45

No isolation but quite a few tests.

romdowa · 22/08/2021 06:47

I've only had to isolate due to travel. Not due to sickness or being a close contact.

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 22/08/2021 06:59

5 of us. Never had to eithet

DisgruntledPelican · 22/08/2021 07:09

I’ve never tested and I think I’m one of the only people I know who hasn’t. DP has taken about 4 PCR tests in 2021 and I’ve only ever isolated for the half a day his results have taken to come through so it’s never been a big deal. It’s never been on DS’s nursery days either, so very little disruption to us.

Like @littlepeas I’d always been very worried about having to isolate for ten days. I need fresh air and exercise every day and the garden doesn’t cut it for me.

ThreeWitches · 22/08/2021 07:09

Never. But we have no children so that probably helps.

ColettesEarrings · 22/08/2021 07:10

Dh & I haven't. I don't work, he works full time from home. Kids have gone 5 x 10day school contact isolatons between them at two different schools. None of us have ever had symptoms.

Odisia · 22/08/2021 07:14

I'm in London and haven't had to isolate. I've only known a small number of people who've had covid.

LozzaChops101 · 22/08/2021 07:19

I've been working face to face with the public for 55+ hours a week throughout the pandemic and I've never even had a hint of a ping! Could have done with some isolated days off tbh! (I realise I've been fortunate)

110APiccadilly · 22/08/2021 07:21

None of us have (two adults, one baby) and what's more I don't know many people who've either had Covid or had to isolate. We do live in an area that's had quite low rates most of the time.

implantsandaDyson · 22/08/2021 07:21

We haven''t - 2 adults, 3 kids (spread across 2 schools) and my husband can't work from home so he was out every day. When the schools were open the two older ones got the bus twice a day. My eldest has done a rake of lfts as has my husband but my youngest and I haven't done any.. We've been double vaxxed from June any my 16 year old had hers last week.

bjjgirl · 22/08/2021 07:30

Nope, our children have 2 house holds with 4 key workers in them. We have always been to sports clubs / gyms when open and have been to school the entire time.

GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr · 22/08/2021 07:35

Three of us (me, DH, adult DD) have never needed to isolate, never done a PCR. I've recently started doing LFTs when I remember twice a week because I had a steroid injection for an autoimmune disease and need to keep an eye. But until a few weeks ago none of us had done an LFT, either.

DH wfh, I don't go out much, DD never goes anywhere. None of us have been ill (apart from me with my existing conditions) since March last year when we all had what we're sure was covid, but there was no testing available then.

Katie517 · 22/08/2021 07:45

We haven’t and neither have any close friends or family members. I’m on mat leave so have been out and about pretty much everyday going to whatever has been open, husband is back working in the office a couple of days a week, he plays a team sport, both go to the gym and classes, eat at cafes and restaurants a few times a week. Neither of us have the app though! we also have large families and social circles and only 1 of our friends has had covid. Don’t live in one of the worst areas but always about mid range for cases.

Terriah · 22/08/2021 08:00

DH & I never have, the DC have though, due to school.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/08/2021 08:01

Never had to until last week when I caught Covid.

Crunchymum · 22/08/2021 08:27

My BIL and SIL and their 6 kids (4 primary school age and the twins in nursery)

She WFH but he works out of the house and has done for the whole pandemic.

I find it unbelievable that between them all they've never had to test, had symptoms, or had to contact isolate but I can assure you it's true.

GoodnightGrandma · 22/08/2021 08:28

I had a test early on because I had tonsillitis, and I think the GP panicked and sent me for one.
But we’ve never isolated in our house.

pinkflask · 22/08/2021 08:30

I teach and have never had to isolate. DP has never done a test, even an LFT. DS’s bubble had to isolate twice but DD’s never did. I think we got off quite lightly!

GintyMcGinty · 22/08/2021 08:31

We both wfh and have never had to isolate. Neither of my kids have. The primary school has had almost zero cases and very little isolating.
High school only a few and not in my sons year group.

I know only 3 people who've had COVID and hardly anyone who has had to isolate.
