Has anyone else never had to isolate?

Family of 4 here - never had to isolate or take a test due to symptoms ourselves. It seems that this is very unusual, particularly as we live in one of the persistently worst hit towns/areas in the country.

Admittedly, both me and DH have predominantly worked from home but we have attended our workplaces aswell over the last 16 months and not been particularly careful in terms of social distancing etc when in work (my work brings me into contact with people who are key frontline workers too). We have been for days and meals out occasionally - both as a family and with friends. We have gone to the supermarket at least once a week since the pandemic started. 2 DC at high school aswell.

So it does seem we have been incredibly lucky to never been caught with isolations/potential symptoms.

Is this more common than I think?

I work as a Sister in A+E and I've never had any symptoms despite working week in week out since this shit show started.

Most of my colleagues have had to isolate several times. I have terrible Asthma so am extra careful but even caring for many poorly/dying covid patients I've not caught it, I do find that odd 🤨

2reefsin30knots · 22/08/2021 08:35

Nope, we have not self-isolated. DH and I are both teachers and DS went to school throughout second lockdown.

My school bubble never burst either, despite many of the children attending F2F every day (special school).

However, we live in an area where the rates were mercifully low. Not doing so well now with everybody on holiday down here. Confused

Daisy829 · 22/08/2021 08:36

DH & i haven’t but both are children have once each due to school contacts. We’ve been pretty lucky.

Imnothereforthedrama · 22/08/2021 08:39

@NelliePig

Nope :) In fact between both of our families we don't even know anyone who has actually had it! Never tested either!
What In 18 months you don’t know a single person who’s had Covid ? No one at work / school / friends / family / neighbours?
Snailhaterz2 · 22/08/2021 08:40

Nope, but I'm self-employed and work from home. I've taken a few lateral flow tests since I've been going out and about a lot more over the last few months.

Bagelsandbrie · 22/08/2021 08:40

Family of 4 here, never had to isolate, none of us have had it. We live in South Norfolk.

MrsFin · 22/08/2021 08:43

House of 4 adults (two grown up DCs at home). Never had to isolate.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 22/08/2021 09:00

Ds had to isolate once due to school bubble closure but as a family, never. We are all out the house working or at school. None of my family (who all work out the home) have needed to test or isolate either.

pourmeanotherglass · 22/08/2021 09:01

DH and i havent, but both teens have due to school contacts.
Ive had a couple of pcr tests for cold symptoms that came back negative. I work in a hospital but seem to have avoided catching covid so far.

megletthesecond · 22/08/2021 09:03

Me and the dc's haven't. Yet. I'm in the office one day a week.
We test regularly and I avoid most indoor places. The thought of being at home for 10 days with the dc's arguing strikes me with terror.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 22/08/2021 09:04

Us.
Family of 3. DS at school, dh and I wfh 2 days a week, dh in office 3 days and me in and out of various homes as part of my job, office based the rest.

placemats · 22/08/2021 09:08

Never had to isolate in my home, myself and three adults and three of us are on the ONS survey too - waves to VirtuallyThere I've been to Northern Ireland twice, once by plane last summer and this year by ferry. This summer I've also stayed in London for a week and went to a summer party which necessitated an overnight stay in a hotel.

However, my son is staying with his dad and his partner who have two 5 year olds. Both his dad and partner have tested positive (doubly jabbed) and he is ill with it. So he has to self isolate as he is only singly jabbed. I'm doing the decent thing and picking him up after his isolation ends which will mean an eight hour journey there and back. I know two other people, doubly jabbed, who have had the virus this summer and both were ill with it too.

Popplebop · 22/08/2021 09:12

Well until this week neither had any of us. But I now have Covid and am ill & isolating. The rest of the family are (currently) clear including two teenagers who have managed to avoid any isolations via school at all.

alloalloallo · 22/08/2021 09:13

Family of 4 here and we’ve never had to isolate until a few weeks ago - about 24 hours when I had a shitty cold and was waiting for a PCR result - negative.

We’ve been at work the whole time

DD1 moved into her Uni house in July and then caught it, but we hadn’t seen her in person for a few days before she came down with symptoms.

DD’s school bubble didn’t burst at all.

None of us have had it as far as we know

What In 18 months you don’t know a single person who’s had Covid ? No one at work/school/friends/family/neighbours?

Until my older daughter caught it in July, I didn’t know anyone who had it

NautaOcts · 22/08/2021 09:15

Not the proper 10/14 day isolation, no life’s the pity, would really fancy it

But have done 2 tests so has to wait in for those but was only a day each time. Not bad for a family of 5

Alfiemoon1 · 22/08/2021 09:17

We haven’t either family of 4 I have mainly worked from home but dh has worked throughout- hgv driver dd at university which has been online but works for a fast food restaurant and ds was at a large high school which he travels to on a packed bus.

Dghgcotcitc · 22/08/2021 09:19

I never have …the kids on the other hand!!…I forget sometimes adults could isolate pretty much everyone I know who isolated was under 18! So neither me, dh, brother, sil neither parents isolated but all the kids in our family have had to some more than once!

placemats · 22/08/2021 09:19

To add son is in Devon and is so far negative and finger's crossed for him. He hadn't seen his dad for a year and was really looking forward to meeting him, his dad's partner, he likes her, and his half brothers. His dad picked him up in Birmingham because he'd been to an all day gaming event. I went down with him in the train and also went to London and back by train.

RubyFowler · 22/08/2021 09:20

I haven't, one child has.

Oldpeoplesprinting · 22/08/2021 09:22

None of us here, family of 4, 2 different secondary schools. I work out & about with a lot of different people & no masks. Not tested either.

itsgettingwierd · 22/08/2021 09:27

I was isolating when lockdown started due to really high temp, really tight chest and breathing and loss of sense of taste and smell.

Very likely covid.

Somehow I've not had to isolate since then despite working in education so I've been in work the whole way through!

user1471464218 · 22/08/2021 09:27

No isolating.... emergency services front line, working throughout. Plenty of PPE now but there wasn't at the start. Kids were at home during lockdown. We went to supermarkets (but didn't visit family and friends.)

We did all have suspicious cough/ fevers in early December 2019 though..just after a friend came home from China with a cough.

itsgettingwierd · 22/08/2021 09:28

@crappytimes

Both DC have had to isolate a couple of times but this is my 1st time. I'm still wfh but DH caught covid 2 weeks ago so I'm isolating as well. DS has also caught it 1 week ago but so far me and DD ok. Just 4 more days of isolating. With it being school hols it feels particularly shit for DC . I'd never tested before this experience either. So desperate for a walk outside.
Your kids without symptoms can go for a walk and so you can if you've had both jabs.
BluebellsGreenbells · 22/08/2021 09:34

I wonder if you’ve all already had it, with our symptoms or have had something in the past so have natural immunity?

We haven’t had it either, high rates locally, 3 teens all in different schools, both of us working.

DD close contact in about 10 different occasions, no isolation needed, but as her friends were all in isolation she was almost housebound anyway.

DD2 close contact on 3/4 occasions and tested negative

DS close contact in school and on an all day trip, not even a sniffle.

Does make you wonder!

HalzTangz · 22/08/2021 09:34

Family of three adults, never had to isolate either
