Has anyone else never had to isolate?

Family of 4 here - never had to isolate or take a test due to symptoms ourselves. It seems that this is very unusual, particularly as we live in one of the persistently worst hit towns/areas in the country.

Admittedly, both me and DH have predominantly worked from home but we have attended our workplaces aswell over the last 16 months and not been particularly careful in terms of social distancing etc when in work (my work brings me into contact with people who are key frontline workers too). We have been for days and meals out occasionally - both as a family and with friends. We have gone to the supermarket at least once a week since the pandemic started. 2 DC at high school aswell.

So it does seem we have been incredibly lucky to never been caught with isolations/potential symptoms.

Is this more common than I think?

Until last week this was me, never done a test, never isolated. Still being really careful and then I caught covid and gave it to my whole household Sad

Just once when dd got covid Christmas Eve. We had a lovely Christmas just the two of us. I had to do a make shift Christmas dinner. I didn't get it though.

Dd got it through the school she teaches at.

I'm NHS.

At work you can draw a clean line between those who've isolated multiple times and those either not at all, or maybe once.

That line is pay band.

Sadly, among them are some who 100% know there was no need to isolate as the 'contact' was the other side of a brick wall, for example, but off they went.

In my family, DS1 had to isolate while at uni (who banned socialising in the flats, so they socialised in the stairwells... not DS, he's not social!), but no one else. But then, I deliberately don't have the app.

I’ve had two tests (once for symptoms, once prior to a medical procedure) - both negative. DH hasn’t needed a test. DS has had one test (for a cough - negative). We haven’t had to isolate at all. We both work from home which has helped, no doubt, but DS’s school has been largely unaffected with very few cases.

DemBonesDemBones · 22/08/2021 10:04

Two adults 4 children and 0 isolations.

placemats · 22/08/2021 10:06

I wonder if you’ve all already had it, with our symptoms or have had something in the past so have natural immunity?

No, and I did wonder this. Signed up for the ONS survey early and have tested negative for antibodies until I got the jabs. I'm positive for Covid antibodies post vaccination - the first jab - as has the other three members of this household on the survey . The survey has been extended until March 22 to assess post vaccination efficacy.

We haven't had to isolate or get a PCR test. Family of 5: DH and I work in the workplace, DC1 at uni, DC2 at sixth form college, DC3 at secondary school.
This week, for the first time, we have had one case of covid in the workplace.

TheGenealogist · 22/08/2021 10:12

Two out of my three secondary school age children had to isolate last school year, the middle one avoided it.

DH and I have never had to - we're both working from home but leading as much of a normal life as we can by going out for coffee, lunch, shopping etc.

We have never had the app though so only request would have ever come from the test and trace people, not the "ping".

TheGenealogist · 22/08/2021 10:14

Oh and I've had one PCR test - because I was offered a day's work in a situation where i'd be mixing in close proximity with lots of other people in February when nobody was vaccinated.

newnortherner111 · 22/08/2021 11:11

Never had to either. Do not have the app (phone stays at home sometimes such as on my daily walk), just give name and phone number when asked. Have worked from home throughout.

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/08/2021 11:14

Not isolated at all and I've been working through out. Neither have my 21 and 24 yr old, they both have got jobs this year.

Pootle40 · 22/08/2021 11:15

Family of 4. Never.

FreeBritnee · 22/08/2021 11:16

We’ve never tested or isolated. I think the children were ill with an obvious cold (along with their classmates). But other than that we’ve not been ill.

FreeBritnee · 22/08/2021 11:17

Actually my youngest bubble broke really early on so we did have to stay in for that. But never been called to isolate myself.

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/08/2021 11:18

Have done 100's of tests, due to work all been negative.

LtGreggs · 22/08/2021 11:18

No isolation here, other than 3 times for 24 hours or so when waiting for a child's PCR test result after having essentially cold symptoms with a mild fever that I though we had better check. All negative. Two DC at secondary school, DH and I mostly wfh until recently.

Topttumps · 22/08/2021 11:31

We haven’t either. Dds have had to self isolate as school contacts but that is all. DH wfh and is ECV so did shield but we are out and about now.

RebeccaCloud9 · 22/08/2021 11:42

We've had to isolate when we actually had covid, but no other time. Neither of my children's bubbles have burst and my work (school) bubble only burst when I had it, no other times.

luckylavender · 22/08/2021 12:35

We haven't although we've had to test once due to symptoms. I work FT out of the home and DH wfh most of the time.

luckylavender · 22/08/2021 12:36

Do LFTs twice a week

Marni83 · 22/08/2021 12:36

Me
And I only know four people in the entire pandemic that did

And I live in a large south east commuter town

Marni83 · 22/08/2021 12:37

The four and their families obviously

Marni83 · 22/08/2021 12:37

Neither children had any silly bubbles bursting thank goodness

Angel2702 · 22/08/2021 12:38

None of us has had to test due to symptoms and out of the five of us only two at high school have had to isolate as contacts.

PeaAndHamSoupFromAChicken · 22/08/2021 12:38

We've only had to once when DH had a bit of a cough, his test results came back in less than 24 hours though so it didn't really feel like we were isolating, it was when we were all still homeschooling so no-one had to go out for anything anyway.
