Has anyone else never had to isolate?

Family of 4 here - never had to isolate or take a test due to symptoms ourselves. It seems that this is very unusual, particularly as we live in one of the persistently worst hit towns/areas in the country.

Admittedly, both me and DH have predominantly worked from home but we have attended our workplaces aswell over the last 16 months and not been particularly careful in terms of social distancing etc when in work (my work brings me into contact with people who are key frontline workers too). We have been for days and meals out occasionally - both as a family and with friends. We have gone to the supermarket at least once a week since the pandemic started. 2 DC at high school aswell.

So it does seem we have been incredibly lucky to never been caught with isolations/potential symptoms.

Is this more common than I think?

No none of us have. DC at secondary and primary school school and I work in another secondary school.

MemoryGame · 23/08/2021 00:02

Family of 5 no isolations. Bubbles popped all around at school, but somehow not the ones my DC were in. Secondary child was in the only bubble in his school which didn't pop and a lot of them were sent home anyway. If I had to estimate, there were probably fewer than 50 in the entire school who never got sent home.

Amboseli · 23/08/2021 00:07

We haven't. Family of 4 including 2 teens. We've been out socially quite a bit, went to Majorca on hols, shopping, meals out etc. Teens never been sent home from school to isolate.

I know lots of families who have never had to isolate, we're definitely not the only ones.

Manzanilla55 · 23/08/2021 11:26

Only did the lateral flow once. Never isola ted nor had cov id.

DoreenWinkings · 23/08/2021 11:29

My ds had to isolate once (for 5 days because that's how long it took to identify close contacts) along with the rest of his after school club. None of the rest of us (4 people) have had to. DH and I have worked as normal throughout. DD1 is at a secondary school with well over 1000 kids, DD2 at nursery almost no cases at either.
The first person I actually know to get Covid is one of my colleagues. They got it two weeks ago. Our local rates have always been low though, so we're lucky here.

HelloMissus · 23/08/2021 12:55

Me, DH and two foster kids haven’t.
Adult DD who lives with us did once for a close contact.
Adult DA at university has done a stint with Covid and two with close contacts.

MintyCedric · 23/08/2021 13:12

Touch wood, no, but I was very careful as I was helping care for my elderly (and in my dad's case, life limited) parents throughout.

I was able to wfh from March - June. Did six weeks part time before the summer hols. Went back last September but was signed off with stress at the end of October half term and have been on u paid sabbatical since.

I'm going back to work FT next week in school with 1300+ teenagers and 200+ staff, but if I've read the rules right as someone who is double vaccinated and a key worker I won't have to isolate unless symptomatic.

RupertTheCat · 23/08/2021 14:00

Family of 4,husband has been WFH since March 2020. I was on maternity leave from Feb 2020-Sept 2020 so limited time out of the house during that 6 months.
I went back to work nearly a year ago and I've never been called to SI, nor has my husband. My son has had to SI twice, he's at nursery

shazzz1xx · 23/08/2021 14:52

Family of 20 here… lived normal throughout it all.. we have had to (rent to pay kids to feed) never once has any of us had covid 🤨 x

clareykb · 23/08/2021 15:48

I am the only person in my family of 4 who hasn't had to isolate and somewhat ironically I'm the on who works outside the house with the general public and has done throughout. 2 DC have had a total of 3 bubble closures at school and DH pinged by the app but not me and we love I'm one of the previous northern hot spots too

clareykb · 23/08/2021 15:49

Live in not love..

howtodealwithit · 23/08/2021 15:52

I think we've had it pretty lucky, two of us have had to PCR test once, two not at all.

School/college bubble has burst once for each son. My work bubble has never popped (work in early years too!). DS1 is the only one of us to knowingly have had Covid.

So overall we've isolated 3 times between 4 of us. Not bad for one in secondary, one at college and one working in education

Oblomov21 · 23/08/2021 15:55

Nope. Neither has Dh.

Bluesheep8 · 23/08/2021 19:02

No. We both WFH. Not one of my family or friends has either.

Redcrayons · 23/08/2021 19:09

Only overnight when I was waiting for results of PCR test.

EileenGC · 23/08/2021 19:21

I've never had to isolate, unless you count my first-ever PCR test after a trip in August 2020, I had to wait one or two nights for the result as the (only one at that point) lab in the city was practically collapsing due to the sheer volume of tests arriving.

Otherwise I've never been a close contact or got an alert from the app. Mind you, where I live the app actually works properly so you don't get pinged because someone went into the same shop as you 3 hours after you left. I worked outside of the home throughout the pandemic and have travelled a fair bit too, so far so good.

Tests... 3-weekly PCRs for a year now, soon to become 3-weekly antigens thanks to >90% of the company now being fully jabbed. God knows when testing will stop. The advantage is that I can be as sure as I can that I never actually had Covid, it would've come up on the tests if I had.

SpnBaby1967 · 23/08/2021 19:29

Given there is a good 60 million people (give or take) who have not caught covid, I imagine there will be more people who havent had to isolate than have had to.

Rabblesthecat · 23/08/2021 19:31

Me. Had covid early 2020 so after that was never bothered.

Never had the app
Never gave real details at venues

So no one to ping me

Onelifeonly · 23/08/2021 20:00

None of us have had to isolate either ((DH, I and 2 teens). I've worked in my workplace for the vast majority of the time, DH wfh and one teen in school, one in work on/off.

I know lots of people who have and lots who have had covid, mainly through work. We mostly kept to rules - teens not always- but have met friends more recently and been to quite a few pubs and restaurants in recent months.

All done tests but not because of symptoms - work / school requirements for two of us. None positive.

RaininSummer · 23/08/2021 20:16

My whole extended family managed it until 2 weeks ago and then two if us did have to isolate in separate households and separate incidents.

PufferFishGoneWrong · 23/08/2021 20:23

This better not change. No jinxing allowed!!

4 of us the same, all the way through.

DH working all over for months now in multiple houses every day. I shop as I normally would, work from home though. Never quarantined anything or washed shopping.

iwanttobeonleave · 23/08/2021 20:26

We've not needed to isolate.
Not been beeped.
Our school didn't have any bubbles go down.
No interruptions at school whatsoever other than the lockdowns of course.
None of my family extended family have tested positive
None of my friends have tested positive either.

We're quite rural, but not overly.

Scottishgirl85 · 23/08/2021 20:27

I think it depends how seriously you take the 3 named symptoms. I find it hard to believe that young children could go 18 months without a raised temperature or cough. But I guess it's possible.

It's been about 5 years since anyone in our household had a cold.......including DS15.
Watapalava · 23/08/2021 20:50

I think it’s more that most ‘normal/rational’ people wait a day or two to see if symptoms subside before rushing out to test
Given the key word is often ‘continuous’
My kids were older but have never had a test bjtvthen is always wait a day or two before testing otherwise you’d be testing all the time

People did get ill prior to covid
