Do you think we will be locked down this autumn/winter?

I wouldn’t like this to happen but I can’t help but think it will.

What do you all think?

OP posts:
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/08/2021 19:26

I think we will. I can’t believe we’ll be back to normal for quite a while yet.

applesandoranges221 · 14/08/2021 19:27

@MarshaBradyo

apples it’s typically Labour / left who are more pro lockdown - in media and in government
Absolutely. Sadly ( and I’m a labour voter) I think these days being in Labour has at best a tangential relationship to being left wing.

Also of course, you can have a left wing totalitarian government just as easily

Immaculatemisconception · 14/08/2021 19:27

Definitely not.

kowari · 14/08/2021 19:29

@Tuba437

A lockd9wn would be counter productive now. It will just make people do exactly what the government don't want.... mixing inside houses with no regulation.
Yes, people have had enough and many will simply not comply. Unless we have martial law to enforce it like in Western Sydney.
MarchXX · 14/08/2021 19:31

@Bananarice

Possibly to save nhs again.

These covid vaccines will they be similar to the flue vaccine? So would we need yearly jab?

I'm hoping for a virulent but harmless variant. Now that is the dream.

Yes.

The NHS should be saving us Hmm.

Backofbeyond50 · 14/08/2021 19:32

No.

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 14/08/2021 19:33

No

Imnothereforthedrama · 14/08/2021 19:37

Yet another thread
Do I think we will have lockdown ?no
Why ? well I can’t see into the future and isn’t everyone vaccinated so why would we unless the next variant is more deadly the vaccine doesn’t work but like I said I can’t see into the future and that’s the worse case scenario isn’t it ? .

BluebellsGreenbells · 14/08/2021 19:38

Unlikely. Businesses will have to adhere Roy heir own policies to keep staff safe, that should include payment of they have to isolate, unless unvaccinated - I can see this happening already.

They will implement their own rules, DH for example ‘must’ stay home with a positive case in the household even though he could go into work -

With no close contacts having to isolate, and masks optional, it’ll get worse before it get better. But that onus will be on the individual rather than the governments.

They have done all they can with vaccines, not much point in lockdowns with everyone protected.

I dread September with schools all back to mixing and no track and trace.
I’m waiting to hear if schools will allow those who’ve had covid/or vaccine to be treated differently to those unvaccinated.

MarshaBradyo · 14/08/2021 19:49

Apples I completely agree with you on the damage of lockdown and it being far more than an inconvenience.

But I really don’t think the government will just do it because of the Bill. It will take what it took before - healthcare overwhelmed.

I don’t think it will come to that even as we have vaccination in place

Genuinely I would love you to be right. I really really would.
IsItWorthTheHassle · 14/08/2021 19:56

@LaurieFairyCake

Well you still haven't explained WHY?

You've explained HOW - you've explained how they have removed rights (which I understand and agree with you on)

So pretty please with fucking sugar on top - WHY would they do such a thing?

Shits and giggles?

I fucking HATE the Tories but they're not keen on tanking the economy more

I’d say another POSSIBLE explanation is that they aiming for disaster capitalism. Stripping the country down to make maximum profit They won’t mind. They’ll still have money, actually even more money.

BJ is a case apart. The only thing he is interested in is power. Whatever it takes to bring him there and for him to stay there, he will do.

The problem is that the NHS is already on the brink of being overwhelmed :(

The difference though is that now the cost of repeated lockdowns is clearly visible to all of us. The delay in diagnosing severe illnesses resulting in death. The NHS not coping with treating so many severe cases.
All there already.

So it might us into lockdown ‘to save the nhs’ or it might have the opposite effect to protect us from more deaths from lockdowns….

MarshaBradyo · 14/08/2021 19:59

apples me too! I really do not want another one (understatement)

As for staying in power if you look at voter polls lifting restrictions increases popularity for Cons

Whitewolf2 · 14/08/2021 20:07

I don’t think we will. There’s been a big increase of Covid recently where we are, I know more people now that have it than I think ever before and we’re not locking down. Hopefully the difference is now they’ve been vaccinated none will need hospital treatment (they’re all young families).

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 14/08/2021 20:11

Hopefully not unless new evolved mutated Lambda plus etc evades vaccination. We will probably revert back and even if required necessitate return to criminal legal obligated civic duty of care scientifically proven effective personal risk mitigation measures - hands, face, space, trace and ventilation etc etc etc ie the second nature usual stuff along with top up new booster vaccination and blended in person and remote working where appropriate.

Squidlydoo · 14/08/2021 20:11

Sadly I think once school are back cases will explode. I predict by October most parts of the country will be overwhelmed.

Very happy to be proved wrong though!

72WayTooCool · 14/08/2021 20:15

No. Unless the govt reinstate furlough, which they won't, then we won't have another lockdown.

screwcovid · 14/08/2021 20:19

Nope people won't adhere and no money also sick of saving the nhs which is the failure if government and cuts and a lot of people feel the same
Enough is enough

SamVimes6 · 14/08/2021 20:23

No. Over 75% of adults are vaccinated now. No point vaccinating folk if everyone is still going into hiding.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 14/08/2021 20:25

@Antinerak
I hope if there are spikes in cases and deaths they'll lockdown over Christmas to slow down or prevent the worst of it.

I will be seeing my family at Christmas irrespective of whether or not it is legal. I’m not missing a second consecutive one for anything. Life is too short for that shit.

IcedPurple · 14/08/2021 20:26

Unless there is some major development, no.

SparklesandGold · 14/08/2021 20:34

@Oblomov21

No. NHS will not be under threat. This this thread is just scaremongering.
I’m not scaremongering. I am asking a question about what people think. It is the coronavirus forum so if it scares people they shouldn’t read it.
OP posts:
sashagabadon · 14/08/2021 20:36

I don’t think so. Vast majority are double jabbed and have exciting travel plans for this Autumn including my elderly parents.
I do think they’ll be a few zealots like Indy Sage that will try and push for it, plus posts popping up on here but hopefully they’ll be fewer in number and less influential.
I’ve noticed a few leftwing lockdown enthusiasts on Twitter have changed their tune recently, almost like they’ve banged their head, woken up and suddenly realised long and strict lockdowns are ultimately bad for working people and basically protect the better off. And that poorer kids need to go to school.
Well yes, what’s taken you so long?Confused

Tanfastic · 14/08/2021 20:40

@LaurieFairyCake

No

Unless we get a vaccine evading variant

And then we're fucked ALL over again

What she said Confused
