Do you think we will be locked down this autumn/winter?

I wouldn’t like this to happen but I can’t help but think it will.

What do you all think?

TheGenealogist · 14/08/2021 17:42

Well I won't be. Obviously I can't break into shops which aren't open, although I do not believe they will shut whole sectors of the economy again.

But I shall carry on with seeing people, having them into the house and going into their houses.

Oblomov21 · 14/08/2021 17:43

No.
NHS will not be under threat.
This this thread is just scaremongering.

CommanderBurnham · 14/08/2021 17:48

Restrictions possibly. Lockdown no

fuckingsickofcovid · 14/08/2021 17:49

Nope

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/08/2021 17:51

If course we will.

I don't know why this keeps on coming up.

It is nigh inevitable that there will be some intervals of increased vigilance, hands, face, space kind of thing.

Covid hasn't gone, it won't be gone for some time yet. We just have enough people vaccinated to take enough pressure off the NHS. Any new variant, weather conditions, local or national changes could mean new restrictions being imposed or highly recommended, locally or nationally.

Heads out of sand, that requires thinking beyond 'I ain't ever wearing a mask again' or worse 'I'm done'.

A year ago the general feeling was we should have followed the example if mask wearing countries. Now... fuck that, totalitarianism etc.

It's fucking horrible. But it is our reality for a while longer. We don't have to choose to make it worse, longer....

Thefaceofboe · 14/08/2021 17:52

No...

RoseMartha · 14/08/2021 17:54

No but I think there will be restrictions

HermioneWeasley · 14/08/2021 17:54

No - the purpose of lockdowns was to stop the NHS getting overwhelmed. That isn’t happening

480Widdio · 14/08/2021 17:54

No,it is unbelievable how compliant we were with the lockdowns. The general population won’t put up with it again.

gingercat81 · 14/08/2021 17:58

I think there will be some restrictions including travel restrictions but not a lockdown. They just wouldn't be able to justify it anymore . I

MarshaBradyo · 14/08/2021 17:59

No

PizzaCrust · 14/08/2021 18:01

I think we might around Christmas, depending on the variants and how bad seasonal viruses are this year (flu, etc).

If other viruses are taking a toll on the NHS then there will be restrictions.

People are over it, though. I think the numbers would have to sky rocket by a huge volume for anyone to willingly ‘lockdown’ again.

PostMenWithACat · 14/08/2021 18:02

Nope. The country is already bankrupt and the impact on other illnesses will be revealed as catastrophic.

Howshouldibehave · 14/08/2021 18:03

I think it will depend on what happens in schools. Squeezing hundreds of unmasked, unvaccinated people into small rooms when rates are high may well end badly. Especially when they’ll all be allowed in to mix, even if someone they live with has covid.

I can’t see many problems with fully vaccinated people going back into offices though so shouldn’t be any need to WFH if employers want you back.

Abraxan · 14/08/2021 18:03

No. I doubt it now.
We might get some restrictions but I think there won't be another full lockdown properly again unless there was a massive issue come up and the death rate went up hugely especially in younger age groups and/or where people are also fully vaccinated. It will take something major for another full lockdown now I think.

Abraxan · 14/08/2021 18:05

@EmilyDickinson

No. It would be sensible to encourage working from home and mitigation measures for schools though. I’m a bit troubled by how much higher infections are than this time last year. If they increase further with school returns, like last year, it’s going to be tricky
Well outside of lockdowns there weren't really many mitigations in place in most schools anyway ime.
Tuba437 · 14/08/2021 18:08

A lockd9wn would be counter productive now. It will just make people do exactly what the government don't want.... mixing inside houses with no regulation.

itsgettingwierd · 14/08/2021 18:09

Not full on lockdowns.

I think we may have a period of increased restrictions or masks become mandatory again but I think it'll be more along lines of restricted numbers, table service only etc.

QueenofKattegat · 14/08/2021 18:11

Me too.
Aposterhasnoname · 14/08/2021 18:11

Nope, restrictions certainly, vaccine passports maybe, lots of “advice” to not do things, but locked down. No chance.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 14/08/2021 18:12

How did you get experience of most schools? There are 1000s of schools in England, how many exactly did you have experience of?

In my experience 100% of the 1 school I know had several measures and a tiny number of positive cases while the school was open. In my second hand experience of talking to other people this isn't unusual. I guess it's self selecting but parents on here may be unrepresentative.

Mookie81 · 14/08/2021 18:14

Even if we are, I won't be following any rules unless they're out of my control, e.g. closed shops.

godmum56 · 14/08/2021 18:17

no. I think there may be different advice but not lockdown

Tuscancat · 14/08/2021 18:27

@Howshouldibehave vaccination status makes no difference if you want to relieve pressure on the nhs from flu. Flu could roar back this year. The back log in hospitals plus low level constant covid cases means it is already like the middle of winter i.e. bad. What happens in the middle of winter depends on the effectiveness of flu vax and how bad the flu variants are. There is now very low immunity in the population for flu because of last years lockdown.

AtomicBronde · 14/08/2021 18:27

I quite like these discussions and don’t understand the sarcastic posts really! This is the Coronavirus thread after all isn’t it?

Often at work or with friends/family this discussion comes up. No one is as rude or dismissive as some on this thread. Easy to hide behind a keyboard I suppose.

What’s wrong with asking this question? I know no one can see into the future but sometimes I suppose it’s good to get an understanding of what others are feeling, where they’re at. Is that so wrong?

It feels that some posters actively sniff these threads out and can’t help but post nothing helpful but vitriol!

Op, I’d love to imagine a life where we aren’t thinking about Covid but it’s still real and it’s still hanging around.

Although I’ve been pleasantly surprised that numbers haven’t jumped to the 100,000 per day predicted, which has been a blessing and I’ve been out and about, been to London, enjoyed every bloody minute, I don’t doubt that there might be an increase when schools return. Then it’s just a case of wait and see. I think now is the time to get out and about, enjoy the summer and not to think too far ahead, although Covid is always lingering around every corner.

I really hope this wave does fizzle out but I’m realistic and of the ‘wait and see’ approach.
