🚨👀 | HERE WE GO: The government is in talks with McDonald’s about discounts for vaccinated people

McJab and fries GrinGrinGrin

Anyone else think this is completely bizarre?

@SophieGiroux

Smacks of desperation, if people don't want the vaccine then leave them be! Covid is rarely a risk for young people anyway. People seem to be more ill now being double jabbed and catching covid now than they were last year while unvaccinated.
Oh dear, so much rubbish in so few words.

"Smacks of desperation, if people don't want the vaccine then leave them be!"

If people don't want the vaccine but are tempted by a portion of McFires then me thinks they're just being lazy/selfish and are not a conscientious objector, anti-vaxer or similar.

"Covid is rarely a risk for young people anyway." This is unfortunately not true. See www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/young-unvaccinated-people-are-being-hospitalized-covid-19-delta-variant-n1273998 There are many more articles that back this up.

"People seem to be more ill now being double jabbed and catching covid now than they were last year while unvaccinated."

What nonsense! Head over to the government Covid stats site and compare the deaths and hospitalisation in this third wave with the same infection rates we had in the second. We're in a MUCH MUCH better position.

Is it 'opposite day' where you live?

TobyHouseMan · 02/08/2021 14:03

@WildSwimming101

WHAT THE FUCK!

Perfect. More obese people. More covid deaths. Great plan.

Fucking idiots.

You don't turn someone obese by having them eat a couple of extra discounted McDonalds meals, offered as a bribe.

Fucking idiot.

bumbleymummy · 02/08/2021 14:08

Not sure why you're trying to say otherwise, apart from the general anti-vaccine pushing agenda!

Right, pointing out that there are several studies from across the world showing that immunity after infection is long-lasting is ‘anti-vaxx’ Hmm.

bumbleymummy · 02/08/2021 14:10

And I agree that promoting fast food as an incentive to have a vaccine against a disease for which obesity is a major risk factor is just bloody stupid.

Nope not when I said in the slightest, but classic technique @bumbleymummy

Ignoring the fact the majority of countries have chosen to not currently include a previous infection for a variety of valid reasons is pushing an anti-vaccine agenda.

As I said

  • we do not know enough about the degree of immunity people get after very low exposure, which are how many get coronavirus
  • the existing literature is heavily weighted towards HCPs, which is not generalisable to everyone

And in addition, as has been repeatedly stated but you choose to ignore, no experts recommend infection as a method to get to immunity when vaccines are available. It increases risk to both the person and the individual, and many countries are cautious about putting across a message that encourages people to try and get coronavirus.

More fallacies of logic. The proposed incentive is a voucher for ubereats or deliveroo, of which there's a range of options.

A single takeaway meal is a grain of sand in comparison to the huge societal issue of obesity.

Parker231 · 02/08/2021 14:19

There is nothing wrong in having a McD. Having them as a major part of your diet is an issue.

Any incentive to get the vaccinations up is worth it although I think more young people will have the vaccinations to get into night clubs rather than for one free McD.

bumbleymummy · 02/08/2021 14:27

@leafyygreens actually many countries do include prior infection - but for 6 months rather than 9. It’s just not promoted in the U.K. Why should an immune person after infection be treated differently to a vaccinated person? How is it ‘anti-vaxx’ to ask that question? The idea that we ‘don’t know’ how immune they are is a pretty weak one given the increasing numbers of infections being seen in double vaccinated people. We’re willing to accept that we don’t know the extent of a vaccinated person’s immunity but not a previously infected person’s ?

Did you actually read my reply?

I explained there are several reasons why experts are hesitant about promoting immunity via infection. Repeatedly ignoring this is what is anti-vaccine, not asking reasonable questions.

bumbleymummy · 02/08/2021 14:34

And who cares if it’s a ‘single grain of sand’. They’re banning advertisements on tv of certain foods at certain times, promoting tax on sugar products and then using fast food as bribery. Mixed messages galore.

Hmm

On my local deliveroo I have options for starbucks, pret, nandos, wagamamas, leon, plus loads of independent cafes.

To try and claim giving someone a voucher to get a free lunch is promoting obesity is ridiculous and hysterical.

bumbleymummy · 02/08/2021 14:56

Well there are clearly enough experts that are happy with it too @leafyygreens or other countries wouldn’t be using it as proof of immunity and Hiqa wouldn’t be recommending increasing it from 6 to 9 months.

And I didn’t say it’s ‘promoting obesity’ I said it’s bloody stupid and giving mixed messages.

Oh my:

"SophieGiroux

How can one poster can so much wrong in one short paragraph. Must take a lot of practice to get so many things wrong.

Hmm
Parker231 · 02/08/2021 15:37

@SophieGiroux - the evidence from the U.K. and other countries, in particular the US shows that those in hospital, seriously ill or have died are now from those who have had no vaccinations or only one

Abracadabra12345 · 02/08/2021 15:49

@AntiWorkBrigade

I don’t see this as a crazy idea either. It’s a token incentive. I’d be uncomfortable with more valuable incentives that might put pressure on people who really don’t want the vaccination to have it. Imagine if it was a £50 Tesco voucher - poorer people would face a pressure to be vaccinated that the wealthier wouldn’t. This is more aimed at giving the lazy and procrastinators who don’t have strong feelings either way a little nudge. I’m alright with that.
Agreed. Israel were doing all sorts of things to encourage take up

So it was free pizza, hummus and knafeh, a sweet Middle Eastern dessert made with filo pastry, for all. And dozens of people showed up.

"We came to get vaccinated, until now we were worried but because of the upcoming restrictions (against people who don't vaccinate) there was not much choice, and it's also very nice to get a pizza and a coffee”

sirfredfredgeorge · 02/08/2021 15:51

Surely now we know there's going to be bribes to get vaccinated, the sane thing is to wait until the bribes are larger, the suckers who got it without anything are losing out now - will the suckers who only got a mcdonalds voucher be gutted in a few months when the then vaccinated are getting X Boxes?
