SJ coming under fire from many for his tweet yesterday following his full recovery from his Covid-19 diagnosis. As Health Secretary he should have chosen his words more carefully and been more sensitive to those who lost loved ones, suffering long covid etc

You see the word 'cower' on here a lot and it's always posted by goady twats. Were the huge numbers of dead people just not brave enough as they succumbed to covid?

marieantoinehairnet · 25/07/2021 09:19

If we act like don't give a shit Great British football hooligans or colonialists perhaps the virus will go away and stop killing people.

No, didn't think so.

mrshoho · 25/07/2021 09:22

@ChristmasShearwater

God people love taking offence.

He's an awful Tory but people need to be tougher and not wilt over one word.

I like Yvette Cooper but wish she hadn't risen to it.

That statement was deliberate and intended to get the message out that this is it now. The government and the NHS will soon (if not already) be totally polarised in the management of covid. I dread to think what is coming.
Figgygal · 25/07/2021 09:22

It was a monumentally stupid and ignorant thing to say it’s right he’s coming under flack for it
Another example of governments current strategy of ignore covid and carry on

mrsanflowerpot · 25/07/2021 09:23

@PurpleDaisies

He makes Matt Hancock look competent and sensitive in comparison. That’s not something I thought I’d ever write.
Exactly this!
jasjas1973 · 25/07/2021 09:24

This is the problem with people like BJ, Hancock and now Javid (Trump and Bolzarano too) they were very lucky, had the best treatment, got over mild versions of CV19 and now see this disease as nothing much to worry about it.

They don't care that others die, just that they aren't blamed for these deaths.

pollylocketpickedapocket · 25/07/2021 09:24

@Noterook

Maybe he has been reading some of the ridiculous threads on here.
Exactly, only one place you find double jabbed suffering terribly with Covid and it’s Mumsnet!!!!
ChristmasShearwater · 25/07/2021 09:25

But Zarah Sultana, Dawn Butler, Chi Onwrah and now possibly Yvette Cooper are giving me a tiny bit of hope.

Dawn Butler doesn't know what a woman is so I think your hope would be misplaced there.

Are you Sajid in disguise, what's that meant to mean
ChristmasShearwater · 25/07/2021 09:27

Grow a Great British Babkbone hug

Say again?

OhDear2200 · 25/07/2021 09:28

I think it’s a horrible thing to do. I say do because I don’t believe it was a casual, thrown away comment. This feeds into this approach to Covid-19, which is basically get everyone infected. He knew perfectly well what he was saying, and some people will free with him.

He’s horrible. Saying it mildly.

OhDear2200 · 25/07/2021 09:28

Agree not free

Sending you a hug, you need one, talk about heartless
OliveTree75 · 25/07/2021 09:28

I agree with you! He was hardly going to say "god well that was shit" but he should have said nothing at all.

mrshoho · 25/07/2021 09:29

Exactly, only one place you find double jabbed suffering terribly with Covid and it’s Mumsnet!!!!

What kind of dick spouts this crap? Think you'll find a fair amount of double jabbed currently in hospital. They wouldn't be in there if they weren't more than mildly unwell.

OliveTree75 · 25/07/2021 09:29

Oops was meant to quote @PiccalilliChilli there

There's two types of people in this world

Tory voters

Nice people

Whatshouldicallme · 25/07/2021 09:30

@PiccalilliChilli

You can't possibly be in London?!

I have lived and worked throughout in London, taking multiple underground lines a fair distance each way to and from work since March 2020. I cannot recall ever seeing anyone wearing an actual gas mask on the tube, certainly not recently. I have also never seen anyone outside of a hospital setting in full PPE and certainly never seen anyone "disinfected" on the doorstep! Please tell us where you actually live?!

Eskarina1 · 25/07/2021 09:30

I'm pleased to see that his previous tweet was explaining that LFTs are for when you don't have symptoms. Presumably this is to correct his announcement that he took an LFT when he felt poorly and advised others to do the same.

In other news, I've decided to stop "cowering" from cars and will no longer be looking before crossing the road. Taking sensible precautions ("hands, face, space") to avoid spreading a very contagious disease to potentially vulnerable people isn't cowering.

ssd · 25/07/2021 09:32

I'll stop cowering when i get one if those jobs where you work from home, there's a car in the drive to take me anywhere i want to go, i get supermarket deliveries from people i dont really care about but it keeps me safe, and i don't need to worry about my job.

Till then, I'll be careful.

ChristmasShearwater · 25/07/2021 09:32

God don't hug me. I'm not heartless, I'm double jabbed and ready to get the economy flourishing. And the NHS treating the patients it so shamefully turned its back on.

Some of you are gagging for another lockdowm.

DumplingsAndStew · 25/07/2021 09:35

What an absolute dick.

People have been following the rules that HIS Government set. Now they are being publicly shamed for doing so.

Some of you would make excellent dictators, for some of us, there's still a lot to worry about, as while your getting your personal economy flourishing (let's face it, that's what you mean), some people Dave a true gauntlet of risk each snd every single day, just to do the basics like shoo, work and school.
Ghosttile · 25/07/2021 09:36

This is our Health Secretary. It’s just embarrassing.

megletthesecond · 25/07/2021 09:37

He'd a knob. Off on full pay, WFH, presumably no caring responsibilities or underlying health conditions.
