If you've been out today what has been the general consensus?

Been shopping this afternoon and was so nice albeit really strange to not wear my mask! I hesitated going in at first because it felt like I'd forgotten something!

If you've been out today, what did you find was the general consensus of people around you either wearing or not wearing masks?

I actually didn't see anyone in a mask which surprised me as I thought quite a lot would still wear them!

Didn't feel any different here: tube to work, most people wearing masks, some exemption lanyards. At work, most people wearing masks when moving about.

caughtinanet · 19/07/2021 19:10

Whether it's selfish has nothing to do with whether it's legal, you seem to be equating mask effectiveness with mandatory mask wearing. You understand that the amount you're protecting others isn't affected by whether you have to wear the mask, right

Yesterday you had to wear a mask to afford some protection to others, today you don't have to but why wouldn't you want to keep that same level of protection for those you come into contact with?

Tealightsandd · 19/07/2021 19:12

It was good to see lots of people in masks when I was out locally I feel proud of my local area - people still thinking of the millions of vulnerable - including as yet not fully vaccinated if at all CEV children.

(Wish I'd worn a mask when I took the bins out later on. It was so hot, I had an upper lip sweat moustache. Could've done with a mask to hide it. Luckily not many neighbours were outside).

toocold54 · 19/07/2021 19:15

I had a patient at 8am "rowing me up" because it is freedom day and it is his choice not to wear a mask and he isn't a sheep and I'm honestly tired of those kind of people.

FFS!! I didn’t realise these people actually exist in RL!! How embarrassing for them and how annoying for you!

ragged · 19/07/2021 19:16

I went out but not in shops, nor business district. No idea what is happening in shops.

Told DS to take a mask on his shopping errand, it was up to him whether he wore it.

CMSdividend · 19/07/2021 19:16

Herts/Cambs border. Have been to Tesco, the bank and the dry cleaners. I didn't notice a difference in mask wearing or social distancing compared to last week/month. Most people I know have said they'll continue wearing them as a few of us have a friend who is double jabbed and on her second round of Covid. As well as for those who can't get jabbed or are vulnerable.

Chillychangchoo · 19/07/2021 19:16

@Carrotcakeforbreakfast

I agree with you, however I saw plenty of people today with masks right down below their chins, when previously everyone has been wearing them correctly. So there were a good few people today who were wearing masks not wearing masks.

toocold54 · 19/07/2021 19:17

😂😂
I actually put my mask on to cut my hedges yesterday as I couldn’t cope with my hay fever.
The neighbours must have thought I’d lost the plot Grin

Has he ever seen a sheep? They don't wear masks.

I think of it like this:

Who would be happy if smoking in all places such as shops, offices, pubs, clubs, cafes, trains became acceptable. And I mean co-mingled with everyone, smokers and non-smokers alike.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 19/07/2021 19:23

@Chillychangchoo I've seen those all the way though. And those who remove their masks to hear.

tealappeal · 19/07/2021 19:24

@bigbluebus We also went to Go Outdoors today and everyone was wearing a mask apart from the staff. I was pleasantly surprised by how many people were wearing them and that people were still social distancing too.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 19/07/2021 19:24

@toocold54 sadly they do
I have had people refuse water in case I've slipped a tot of Pfizer in there.
My cousin is one of them

He thinks I'm being paid extra to keep up the pretence of covid.
Couldn't write it could you Haha.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 19/07/2021 19:27

@Tealightsandd Grin exactly.

Fizbosshoes · 19/07/2021 19:27

I went to work on the train. Most people were wearing masks (I think probably the same proportion that have been wearing them all along) went in a couple of shops, one was pretty empty but staff were wearing masks, the other had a sign on the door requesting masks were worn by customers.
DS school requested parents continue to wear them at the school gates.

Smileyoriley · 19/07/2021 19:34

About the same ratio of mask wearers vs non in indoor settings here, shops etc (Home Counties) as pre "fReeeeedum dAy"

Bit of a damp squib really!

Kenworthington · 19/07/2021 19:39

Devon here. I’ve been to the supermarket and into our city centre today. Everywhere was packed. Saw TWO people without masks inside. Two.

Well, personal responsibility...

(Boosts the tax coffers too).

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 19/07/2021 19:40

Where I live, there were crowds happily waving burning masks in the air while rebelliously standing 0.5m apart and squirting hand sanitizer in the air while stamping on the WHO logo.

Oh wait. No, that was a dream.

Where I live, most people wore masks in shops, some didn't (more than last week), shop staff in many shops didn't wear them either. I'm not against mask wearing so wore one. But not outside, as I prefer not to suffocate when sweat clogs the mask up. My family are begging me to keep a mask on at all times so as not to scare the children if I take it off. Grin

Shergill15 · 19/07/2021 19:40

Travelled to and from work on the bus as usual - wearing my mask. Everyone on the morning journey was wearing one and all but one had a mask on the return journey (4pm ish). Sainsburys early morning en route to work - most staff and customers wearing them, one or 2 not. Wilko after work, most people wearing them.

treedragon · 19/07/2021 19:42

Not sure how it would pan out on a bus if someone got on behind you with no mask on and you asked them to put a mask on or move elsewhere..... Especially if you were there first.

Whammyyammy · 19/07/2021 19:43

Went to a few shops today, I didn't wear one in any.
Only shop where staff we wearing them wss pets at home, others is was a 50/50 split on people wearing them.

I reckon by the end of the week it will be fewer wearing

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/07/2021 19:44

I'd say no. That's how it would pan out.
treedragon · 19/07/2021 19:45

Then you could get an argument and scene occur. Unless one says - if you don't move or put a mask on I will clear the entire bus by letting a stink bomb off.

Essexgirlupnorth · 19/07/2021 19:46

Went swimming still wore my mask walking in and out of changing rooms was bit weird just using any locker and cubical but being able to wash my hair was great.

Went to vets which is based in a pet shop most people wearing masks including me and Went to a couple of shops are most people masked and keeping their distance.
