Anyone any idea if this is going to be anything dramatic or just a 'be careful' pep talk?

OP posts:

first it be nightclubs...

soon after it will be live music venues, pubs, theatres, cinemas, sporting events

What's scary? The vaccine?

If it gets the refuseniks getting it, then why not? The French started doing it, a big carrot and an even bigger stick and vaccine appointment shot up.

the80sweregreat · 19/07/2021 18:27

My unvaccinated friend will just shrug and say ' I'll have a drink at home and not bother with pubs etc'
It's her choice, but life is pretty boring without the odd night out or just going out to eat. Eventually you will get fed up with staying indoors. Plus , if you work in a school or a public place , you will have to have it done I guess : I can see that coming in too!
They will get people any way they can.

itsgettingwierd · 19/07/2021 18:29

@the80sweregreat

He looks poorly again.
I thought he looked like he's aged quite a bit last week.

But I'm pretty sure being a PM in a pandemic will do that to you!

I am not getting it due to severe needle phobia.

Lots of people are not getting the vaccine due to some sort of hesitancy/anxiety. Banning them from venues wont cure how they are feeling.. they will just feel punished for something they can not help.

BruceAndNosh · 19/07/2021 18:30

Johnson has been repeatedly criticised for being a week or two late with restrictions but introducing Vaccine Passports TWO MONTHS after Nightclubs reopen is shutting the stable door after the horse has not only bolted but also run the Grand National, broken its leg and been put down.

I'm pro vaccine but do not support compulsory Vaccine passport with no alternative to test instead

Tana433 · 19/07/2021 18:33

@NothinHappensAfterTwo I feel exactly the same as you. I am furious tonight. I am and will remain unvaccinated but i have concerts booked for Oct and Nov which, if a negative test is not enough for entry, i wont be able to attend. Im pretty sure i wont be able to get my moey back either. I have no problem with masking, social distancing and providing a negative test for as long as it takes but i refuse to be coerced into having the vaccine.

ilovesooty · 19/07/2021 18:34

@SpindleWhorl

'We reserve the right to go to mandation' blah blah ... 'by September'.

And there we have it.

About the first sensible thing he's said.

They won’t get me to have it. My friends and family will just mix in our homes. Not great for the economy if people choose to do that. I’ll give up my job if I have to. I don’t need to work but I do it because I enjoy helping people and I’m bloody good at my job. Again, their loss. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I feel sorry for those that financially are not free to make that choice.

@ChardonnaysPetDragon Wonder how Gareth Eve feels about that.

the80sweregreat · 19/07/2021 18:35

Boris Johnson couldn't wait to be PM nearly two years ago
He practically run up to make his victory speech that hot July day looking like a dog with two tails. How glorious it all would be!
Now, his a tired old lab with one tail ( if that ) that's had a stroke and a bad hair do via his owner.
How life can bite you on the bum in less than two years. A cautionary tale.

i've been doubled jabbed - that's my choice

I am not comfortable with compulsory vaccination - which is what this effectively is

Sorry you’re feeling the same. It’s rubbish. Flowers I think I’m past furious as I’ve been expecting this for a while.

We also have concert tickets for November. Will see if I can sell them if that’s even possible. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MercyBooth · 19/07/2021 18:41

@NothinHappensAfterTwo whats the concert?

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 19/07/2021 18:41

Sorry but I am fully behind the compulsory vaccines.
If it helps get out of this cycle then brilliant.
The most unwell patients in my hospital (itu level) have had no vaccinations.
Yes there are those who have had them and still got it (which was always going to be the case) but they're much less unwell than last time.

So yeah have your vaccine.
Like you would have compulsory vaccines to travel to certain areas.
If you don't and lose money on concerts, get bored of drinking and dancing in your kitchen then tough tits I say.

NothinHappensAfterTwo · 19/07/2021 18:44

Carrotcakeforbreakfast

Thanks for your input. 😇

the80sweregreat · 19/07/2021 18:45

I'm pretty sure that vaccine passports will be brought in. It is obvious that the govt will put the screws on the hospitality and tourist industry and they won't have a lot of choice in the matter but to comply. If they want the custom , they will have to just toe the line.

XenoBitch · 19/07/2021 18:46

How long until benefits get sanctioned if you don't have the jab.

MaxNormal · 19/07/2021 18:46

It does need to get through parliament first (we do still have that, nominally). Labour/Lib Dem have said they'll vote against previously. There's a lot of Tory backbenchers who won't be happy either.
I'm honestly not sure how a vote would go.

ElliottSmithsfingers · 19/07/2021 18:48

Another one who's vaccinated but very uncomfortable with pushing vaccines on people who (for whatever reason, it's none of my business) don't want to have them. Obligatory tests - fine; obligatory vaccines - not ok. This would be a very dangerous precedent.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/07/2021 18:48

I am fairly sure that the uptake has been much greater since that article was published

Sadly, not according to this from the Lancet, published just today: www.thelancet.com/journals/lanepe/article/PIIS2666-7762(21)00157-5/fulltext

In fairness this relates to HCPs rather than the general population, but given the obvious risks involved in their role I have to wonder what the current hesitancy rate's like elsewhere, if even health workers are reluctant

And still it seems nobody wants to discuss how "passports" might be handled, if they cerate more exclusion among minorities - quite a shame really

Elton John ! The farewell tour so my last chance.

the80sweregreat · 19/07/2021 18:48

Will Labour really vote against a vaccine passport? I can see a few tory MPs voting against it. Be interesting to see how that will pan out.

crapshow · 19/07/2021 18:49

My 18 year old son is now at breaking point. He has had all the usual rites of passage torn away from him, a shit Uni experience locked in a room unable to socialize like a human being, no normal human relationship allowed to develop and on and on. He does not want the vaccine and has just said he will be forced to just "live". Has gone out in tears so I'll be worrying now for the rest of the night. It's fucking scandalous what they are doing. As others have said we are now living in a "dystopian society" and a "George Orwell" novel. Maybe my son is right. If they restrict you "living" what is the actual point?

the80sweregreat · 19/07/2021 18:50

They will go this I bet !
