Anyone any idea if this is going to be anything dramatic or just a 'be careful' pep talk?

OP posts:

I hope you receive some help as maybe the trauma in your own life has caused you to burn out empathy wise.

My first comment WRT my father was not about Xeno or anyone else's needle phobia, it was about people complaining about their "civil liberties". I maintain such people in this country don't know their born (NOT referring to Xeno or others like her). Please do not patronise me.

crapshow · 19/07/2021 20:36

Marmitemarinaded - shame on you for your disgusting comment.

XenoBitch - thanks for showing me there are still decent "humans" around.

My son is with good friends and is safe as I know they will look out for him. He doesn't want the vaccine as he feels very uneasy about this whole shitshow and is actually terrified he will be coerced into it and what the bigger picture looks like. Those are his thoughts. He is wary and questioning and yes angry that he will have to take a vaccine he doesn't want, is scared to have as he doesn't know how it will affect him and yet he's being told "well if you want to do xyz, you HAVE to have it to function normally in this society". To him that society looks pretty shit and sinister. Who's to say he's wrong?

Quite a mistake to make but an imprtant correction

Correcting a statistic I gave at the press conference today, 19 July. About 60% of hospitalisations from covid are not from double vaccinated people, rather 60% of hospitalisations from covid are currently from unvaccinated people.

peepopeepopeepo · 19/07/2021 20:39

I DO think that we all need resilience and tenacity to cope with what's ahead of us. I'm not talking about covid. The advent of social media, relentless consumer capitalism, long working hours and shitty work/life balance, lack of connection with other people (pre covid as well as now), the break up of the extended family, sedentary lifestyles and many other things have done an absolute number on people's mental health and it won't serve anyone well from here on out. I don't know what the answer is but I do know our problems are a lot bigger than vaccination passports.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/07/2021 20:43

God seriously why are people on MN so fucking contrary all the time? Clearly I'm not going to be dancing a jig about this, I'm miserable and worried sick. And sorry for not immediately thinking oh but society and having the seflish audacity to feel upset that I'm getting shafted here.

Why are you worried sick? The more vaccinated the better you be protected?

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 19/07/2021 20:44

Thank you, but I don't think I am worth it.

It is a scary time right now, and I do not blame your DS for struggling with it. No one should be coerced into any medical treatment whatsoever. To feel like that is happening, especially when you are a young adult just about going out to discover all the fun life has to offer.... it is depressing as hell. I do not think he is wrong at all. Life now does look look shit, and it does look sinister. I know it is not MNetty to do so, but I am sending you and your son big hugs. I am scared too Flowers

Thats quite a big mistake to make. I'm not anti vax I'm pro choice. Due my 2nd jab soon but even I can see that jabs alone won't solve covid. I can still get covid I can still pass it on I maybe will end up in hospital I'm in my 40s.

All this heavy pushing the jab .
Yet denying teenagers the right to be protected.
Makes no sense.

Sunnyfreezesushi · 19/07/2021 20:57

Less than a 100 years ago young men were conscripted - that means if you refused, you went to prison. If you deserted (including for mental health issues), you could also end up in prison.

80 years on some people are too snowflakey to have a safe & tested vaccine. This pandemic is serious, it is as bad as the Second World War, it has had as much of an effect on us and our public finances. It is no joke. My 12 year old would happily have the vaccine for the greater good. Don’t see why some adults get to refuse - they are not more precious than the rest of us. If you want to refuse, you opt out of the benefits of society, end of.
Those refusing for genuine mental health issues/medical reasons need GP sign off which I am sure would be forthcoming but they cannot necessarily expect to benefit from what private businesses offer (eg all night clubs/sport venues) but definitely from state provided things (education, health care, benefits).

We need to give people who've had Astrazeneca a Pfizer or Moderna booster.

Patrick Vallance says that in the UK 60% of people in hospital are double jabbed.

In America, where people are mostly getting mRNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna), the CDC data shows that fully vaccinated rarely need hospital. And 99.5% of the deaths in America are in the unvaccinated.

We need to give mRNA boosters particularly to the vulnerable who had astrazeneca.

Even more so because of the threat of the Beta strain. It's thought that astrazeneca isn't very effective against Beta.

Another one who's vaccinated but very uncomfortable with pushing vaccines on people who (for whatever reason, it's none of my business) don't want to have them. Obligatory tests - fine; obligatory vaccines - not ok. This would be a very dangerous precedent.
Really? Why? People who refuse to be vaccinated take away rights and freedom the rest of society. They take away other's freedom to live a full life and people's right to access education, healthcare and human contact.

@Sunnyfreezesushi just when you think MN can't get any more ridiculous you come along.

When I mentioned my needle phobia to my GP they laughed. When I had a panic attack in front of a different GP because they'd asked me to go for a blood test they tore up the form and told me not to bother. They're really going to 'sign off' my needle phobia aren't they? Some people really have had an empathy bypass.

newnortherner111 · 19/07/2021 21:14

I was surprised when Patrick Vallance gave the 60% figure and am partly reassured it was for unvaccinated people. Not that I wish Covid 19 and hospitalisation on anyone.

As for compulsion over vaccination, the obligations on medical staff and to travel to some countries where mentioned months ago when the vaccination rollout began.

Horehound · 19/07/2021 21:15

I must be missing something...
It's not being made compulsory is it? It's just if you want to go to certain places then you need both vaccines?

Seems fair enough to me 🤷

Like a nightclub? Are you genuinely fine being told you have to have 2 medical procedures to go to a nightclub?
Canigooutyet · 19/07/2021 21:17

The vaccine isn't safe for everyone though is it?
It's only tested up to this point in time there's st I'll loads more that we don't know. Remember it was several months that the clotting thing became apparent. The allergies weren't picked up for what 5 months after the trials had started. It's only because more people are having it that more data can be gathered.

MyDcAreMarvel · 19/07/2021 21:17

Unless they’re trying to force people to have the vaccine of course. hmm Bunch of cunts. yeah bunch of counts finally trying to save lives Hmm it’s the only decent thing they have done.
