Anyone any idea if this is going to be anything dramatic or just a 'be careful' pep talk?

OP posts:

@Canigooutyet those who genuinely can't have it due to previous anaphylaxis etc, those who are already severely immunocompromised should be exempt. A negative test in this case is the way forward.
People who have severe needle phobia too. That needs to be considered.

InFiveMins · 19/07/2021 18:59

Very dangerous that we are getting mandatory covid passports brought in. It is never OK to force someone to take a vaccine they might not want. If you take the vaccine, that's great, but if you don't take it, that should be respected too. More people than not will (and have) taken the vaccine. To go to this drastic length is concerning.

I suspect there will be major backlash against this in the same way there has been uproar in France with riots in the capital.

MaxNormal · 19/07/2021 19:00

I agree. I'm mainly house bound anyway but I still worry it might affect things like going to the dentist or physio. Frightening times

Yes. I'm mostly at home too and vanishingly unlikely to go to a pub, but my treat is a coffee and a cake out. Incredibly occassionally have an alcohol free beer somewhere licenced with a friend.
I'm already pretty socially excluded due to my condition and it's a bit saddening to think that's about to get worse, and that people think it's great.

NothinHappensAfterTwo · 19/07/2021 19:00

Thats my November one as well. October is Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott. I'll be gutted to miss them.

I’m gutted too. Bastards.

Marmitemarinaded · 19/07/2021 19:01

@crapshow

My 18 year old son is now at breaking point. He has had all the usual rites of passage torn away from him, a shit Uni experience locked in a room unable to socialize like a human being, no normal human relationship allowed to develop and on and on. He does not want the vaccine and has just said he will be forced to just "live". Has gone out in tears so I'll be worrying now for the rest of the night. It's fucking scandalous what they are doing. As others have said we are now living in a "dystopian society" and a "George Orwell" novel. Maybe my son is right. If they restrict you "living" what is the actual point?
Where’s he gone out tonight?

An 18 year old boy crying about this is concerning and saying that he will be forced to “just live” seems melodramatic or a sign of something deeper and concerning because this is not a proportional response at all

XenoBitch · 19/07/2021 19:01

@CrunchyCarrot

I am not getting it due to severe needle phobia.

Same here, plus other health issues.

Lots of people are not getting the vaccine due to some sort of hesitancy/anxiety. Banning them from venues wont cure how they are feeling.. they will just feel punished for something they can not help.

I agree. I'm mainly house bound anyway but I still worry it might affect things like going to the dentist or physio. Frightening times.

I don't go to clubs anyway, but next it might be something I do partake in. Cafes? Supermarkets? Doctors? Benefits?

I am not convinced it is going to stop at nightclubs.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 19/07/2021 19:01

I think the issue with widespread testing to do anything is people are literally showing their mates lft etc.
It isn't bulletproof

The vaccine passports won't be either but I would imagine that for this moment in time it would be harder to provide a fake.

goose1964 · 19/07/2021 19:02

My son has severe needle phobia and his GP prescribed a single diazepam to be taken before each jab. He said afterwards he didn't think it would be that easy. A couple of days later he said that he thought the diazepam had made him say that.

peepopeepopeepo · 19/07/2021 19:02

This whole situation is like a dystopian nightmare

Nope, that will be in about 20 years when climate change takes hold.

MercyBooth · 19/07/2021 19:02

@Saucery Im not anti vaccination im anti coercion Nice try at the gaslighting Boris tactics though.

MaxNormal · 19/07/2021 19:02

Oh yeah, I get PIP. I suppose they could stop that.

Marmitemarinaded · 19/07/2021 19:02

Mind well given his mother thinks As others have said we are now living in a "dystopian society" and a "George Orwell" novel.

Perhaps not surprising he’s crying

jasjas1973 · 19/07/2021 19:02

Labour may well support it, they are usually more in favour of ‘nanny state’ type policies than the Tories. I can see plenty of Tory MPs voting against it, which means that Johnson may be relying on Labour votes to get it through

This made me laugh!

It will be the tory government who would bring forward any compulsion.... not Labour.... Yet despite this being blindingly obvious, you come with "Labour are more in favour of the Nanny state"

We don't have the means for compulsion unless we also have some sort mandatory ID system.

Well of course it did So it did the job why the doc prescribed it!!

I am glad a diazepam helped your son. It is not that easy for many others. I am not allowed benzos at all.
MistressoftheDarkSide · 19/07/2021 19:03

This makes no sense to me. Vaccines reduce transmission apparently but don't eliminate it entirely. Tests going into crowded places surely make more sense? And it's jolly nice of them to wait until the usual demographic for clubs have been offered the jab, but that's after what, 8 weeks of not having the rule while infections are apparently surging.

As a side note, it's a lie that all eligible adults have been offered their first vaccine - I'm 52 and still waiting. I've seen HCPs three times in the last few weeks for various issues and none of them have brought it up either. It could be because of a bad childhood reaction, but it hasn't been discussed with me and no, I haven't chased it up because I am wary due to that reason, so let sleeping dogs lie and all that.

Have observed the rules pretty much throughout, but today's news just seems bonkers.

It's almost as if people are being deliberately pushed to think oh fuck it and take their chances......

peepopeepopeepo · 19/07/2021 19:04

Honestly, we are such babies in this country. Fancy whining about having a bloody injection Confused.

Exactly. I also know of people who are so deeply anxious of the vaccine that they physically cannot bring themselves to have it. They have severe health anxiety. To exclude them further, to force them out of cinemas/restaurants/theatres etc (which it will be leading to for sure) is wrong.

I sincerely worry about the mental health of this country and the damage this is going to do to people who cannot or will not have the vaccine. Not everyone is sat behind a keyboard on twitter thinking the vaccine has a microchip in it. Some are genuinely terrified to have it.

No matter how you stand in terms of the vaccine, 'passports' to divide us even further are not the answer, they really aren't.

MercyBooth · 19/07/2021 19:04

I have my flu jab at Boots EVERY year in the first week of December. Im actually entitled to it for free as a carer but i pay so someone else who would really struggle to pay can access an NHS one.

So please stop the anti vaxxer shit.

Saucery · 19/07/2021 19:05
@Saucery Im not anti vaccination im anti coercion Nice try at the gaslighting Boris tactics though.
It was beneath you to bring in Lisa Shaw’s tragic death as an anti-vaxx tactic. You’re not usually like that. It’s hot, you’re very against vaccinations and so no doubt quite frightened right now, so I’ll let your nasty little sideswipe there go by.
Take care.

NothinHappensAfterTwo · 19/07/2021 19:05

I live on a social housing estate. If there was a big vaccine bus come round here and they said "get your jab so you can go on holiday" they would be laughed at. You cant really threaten people with losing something they already lost due to austerity/cuts.

Well said. There’s a lot of clueless people on here.

I wouldn’t put it past the government to offer a financial incentive to the ‘poor’ that they clearly despise so much, yet know fuck all about. I’m getting angrier now, I should probably stop reading here and Twitter. 😅

Maybe one day, it would be mandatory to have something done to you that you absolutely freak out about.

Show some empathy.

Such an ignorant comment Confused
MercyBooth · 19/07/2021 19:09

Oh and DH is worried about me catching Covid at the vaccination centre
Scare tactics have consequences.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 19/07/2021 19:09

@InFiveMins but surely if the health anxiety is so severe... then reducing the risk of being severely unwell with covid by having a vaccination is the lesser of the two evils in their eyes.
I speak as someone who doesn't have health anxiety but I know what I would rather.
