I know it’s been deemed “freedom day” but I personally will continue wearing my mask at work, shops and public transport which I use regularly.
I will also continue to maintain social distancing where possible.
Still feel like im going to be treading very carefully.
I’d be to nervous to go to a nightclub I think at this stage. Not that I get chance anyway 🤣

@Overthebow - if only it were that simple.

MustBeThin · 19/07/2021 13:46

Oh and as anyone can sit in a restaurant at a table next to another table of people for an a hour and a half while eating, drinking, laughing and joking all while not wearing a mask, I highly doubt me keeping my distance from people, not wearing a mask in a massive shop for 10-15mins is going to make me a covid super spreader. Forgot though, you can't catch covid while sat down. 🤔

Fair point!
@Thewiseoneincognito nice way to speak to someone who can't tolerate masks who has been avoiding being out in public as much as possible for a year and a half because of it.

If only you were as considerate of others.
Give it a rest Vamp. You ain’t fooling anyone with your faux concern.

Irony overload Grin

LadyCatStark · 19/07/2021 13:57

Like giving it all up. This isn’t freedom day, nothing’s changed, nothing’s getting any better. There’s just no point.

MustBeThin · 19/07/2021 13:57

wise I don't need to justify it, it's not currently law remember. I'm sure you and many others have been doing plenty of mixing and non compulsory things for months and months, risking spreading covid. Have you seen friends/family, gone to the shops just because you felt like it? I'm sure you have. You can't preach at me for going out without a mask on after being practically recluse for a year and half if you've been mixing/socialising wearing a mask.

Lupinhere37 · 19/07/2021 13:58

I’m off for a hospital appointment. Hoping there will be masks and social distancing still as the hospital is in a rising rate area.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 19/07/2021 13:59

I feel normal. I am smiling for all the lockdown 18th birthdays that are finally going to be celebrated this week. Seeing the shopping centres full and overhearing excited teenagers on the train today made me smile.

Dandy82 · 19/07/2021 14:00

Feeling anxious that any risk we may take could result in 10 days isolation and I don't get any money. I obviously don't want to catch it either but all the isolation stuff is doing my head in.

lovescats3 · 19/07/2021 14:14

bbc news reported last week that sainburys , tesco and waterstones are requesting that people wear masks as have the cancer charities.it's freedom day for the government not us,as they are absolving responsibility for themselves, we'll be told" alas " people died and got long covid.Johnson and sunak did the fastest u- turn of a government in history- 167 minutes and only because it trended on twitter that people would delete the app.I'm going to carry on with a mask , especially as my brother who is 46 is cev and has to work in a public facing role.Living with covid means we will need to adapt like we used condoms for AIDS, i think we need to use masks.if people want to go to nightclubs i don't understand why a test before is not mandatory, my 20 year old son( who has a friend with long covid) who is planning to go this week can't understand it. i think they want people to catch it to build up herd immunity as there isn't enough real time data on vaccine safety for children.i'm worried about missing our uk holiday too as that would be money wasted

lovescats3 · 19/07/2021 14:15

Health care settings are mandating masks

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 19/07/2021 14:26

I've just been to aldi
I would say I saw 5 people without a mask and dare I say
They're exactly the type of person I would expect to see without a mask. Even before today.

My brother in law is one of them.
He is currently in bed with covid feeling the most poorly he has ever felt. Anti vaxx too.
Wonder if he will reconsider his stance after.

the80sweregreat · 19/07/2021 14:37

I just hope my short break end of august isn't cancelled : it's an isolated cottage in the UK so hoping it can go ahead , but who knows?
Getting money refunded last time ( lockdown one) was a pita!
It's rife where I live though :( lots of people isolating.

Backofbeyond50 · 19/07/2021 14:38

If dd2 had been in school she would have probably been self isolating for the last few days of term. Unfortunately due to SEN and anxiety pre COVID she has been unable to access a proper education. Currently 3 hours per week virtually. I would be so happy if she was heartbroken to be missing 3 to 5 dsys of school. I look at all her year group out and about and it breaks my heart.

A few anti vaxxers I know have been ill. They still won't consider having the vaccine though.

Well he’ll have immunity after he recovers so probably not.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/07/2021 19:48

It was fine. Went on a bus today without a mask, don't think I'd have coped with one on anyway in this heat! Most people were still wearing them. I don't really go clubbing often as I have young DS. Looking forward to going to London this weekend. Will wear a mask on the Tube as it's required.

southeastdweller · 19/07/2021 19:53

Feeling good today for not wearing masks anywhere in shops and buses. It felt liberating. But I worry the new guidance is only temporary.

RobinPenguins · 19/07/2021 19:56

I feel the same as I did yesterday.

Main positives for me are no longer having to book stuff like National Trust, local museums etc in advance so we can wait and see what the weather is like. Return of a bit of spontaneity hopefully. Am also hoping the swimming pool will ease up on some of their ridiculous rules like no shampoo allowed and no hairdryers in use.

CC1991 · 19/07/2021 20:19

I was quite sad to see that hardly anyone from my workplace came into the office today.

There are 10 of us who had to be there throughout the pandemic as our team does large volumes of printing and scanning, but only about 10 other people came in today and our capacity is 150!

Our security guard thinks the warm weather kept people away from the office, but I found it a bit sad that hardly anyone seemed to want to come in for a proper catchup with people they haven't seen in 16 months. Perhaps they just don't like each other enough! Grin

Do you think the fellow passengers on the buses felt liberated from the fear of being infected by those without masks? Unlikely.

As I'm not telepathic, I don't know and quite frankly I don't care. But most of them, on four bus journeys, weren't wearing them either.

Lemonmelonsun · 19/07/2021 21:52

I feel cross, more than any other time, so many people around me are in burst bubbles, testing positive and yet for the first time all measures a re stopping!!
