I know it’s been deemed “freedom day” but I personally will continue wearing my mask at work, shops and public transport which I use regularly.
I will also continue to maintain social distancing where possible.
Still feel like im going to be treading very carefully.
I’d be to nervous to go to a nightclub I think at this stage. Not that I get chance anyway 🤣

@Ifitquacks obviously he hasn't banned masks or told people to stand together Hmm but judging by this, other threads and what else I've seen I would not rely on other people's judgement. I think the mask rule should remain a bit longer. That's all.

PausePlease · 19/07/2021 12:32

Not sure how I feel, really. It doesn’t feel like ‘freedom’ in our house as our DC have covid and we are on day 3 of isolation. Their school has also closed 4 days early due to too many staff off self isolating to keep it open.

I was supposed to start a new job in person today, but because I’m self isolating have got zoom meetings instead. So it’s all a bit of a damp squib.

From my commute this morning and my lunch break trip to Tesco the same percentage of people are wearing masks today as were wearing them yesterday. And that’s a high %. Although bizarrely I visited family in Scotland a few weeks ago and mask compliance appeared far lower than where I am in England.

Sarcobaleno · 19/07/2021 12:36

I'm sure it's varies whichever bit if the UK you're in. I feel lucky that there's a really high compliance rate around me.

Catscrat · 19/07/2021 12:36

Happy to continue to wear a mask at the supermarket but looking forward to ditching them at baby groups and on the school run.
I’m not worried about getting covid but with cases rising I’m really paranoid about the possibility of having to self-isolate and missing our UK holidays.

IndigoC · 19/07/2021 12:41

Resigned to another (eventual) disaster.

MarshaBradyo · 19/07/2021 12:48

Good

RumblyMumbly · 19/07/2021 12:53

@MarshaBradyo

Good
Feeling good about anything in particular?

Guessing you don't have an isloting child, covid or messed up plans today like so many others on the thread.

MarshaBradyo · 19/07/2021 13:00

Well no but I’ve been there and it sucks. I’d not be feeling good if dc were isolating I felt like I would combust and particularly if it were today

I just answered thread though

Didn’t rtft

Good luck to all those dealt a bad hand hope it improves soon

SonnetForSpring · 19/07/2021 13:02

Relieved. Just been to tesco and most people wearing masks, using hand gel and social distancing. Nice surprise. Has given me hope.

MustBeThin · 19/07/2021 13:02

I've been out first thing this morning without a mask, it's the first time I've had a little leisurely shop since masks became compulsory. I've only done the supermarket shop in all this time. I was super nervous that people would be confrontational but it went fine. I'd say at least 95% of people are still wearing masks today and I've been in 4 shops.

Dongdingdong · 19/07/2021 13:06

Gosh, that’s more than before Freedom Day! Around my way at least. I’ve seen plenty of people on public transport not wearing them throughout the pandemic (and yes, I know some will be unable to but not all of them).

95% of people you say, well they chose to stop potentially infecting you should they be asymptomatic, yet you chose to infect them should you be asymptomatic.

Congratulations, are you pleased with yourself? Was it worth it? Did you feel free? Was it liberating to potentially infect others?

headintheproverbial · 19/07/2021 13:11

I was in the supermarket earlier and everyone was wearing a mask.

Topia · 19/07/2021 13:13

I went to Sainsbury’s this morning wearing a mask as usual. Pretty much everyone else was wearing theirs, it was a bit of a feeling of common courtesy TBH. I could have been quite ok to enter without one but I think a lot of people are still wearing masks out of consideration to other shoppers so I’m going to do the same for now.

Geppili · 19/07/2021 13:14

Awful. My DS 11 tested positive for Covid so whole family isolating and my 14 year old just wants to go out with friends. And Aldi have sold out of the pool we wanted. And I'm extremely menopausal and DH is working from the dining room table which is our main hub. I was planning to go shopping today with my best friend. The Ddog is hot but happy having his whole pack together at home.

mij66 · 19/07/2021 13:17

Honestly I'm wearing my mask more now, though thats because it's proven to be an effective barrier against pollen Wink Live and let live, masks and space are a tiny thing that will be appriciated by many, so theres no harm is there?

missingeu · 19/07/2021 13:27

Scared, angry and tried.

The hospital where I work went from under 5 covid patients on Thursday to over 50 (with 10 in critcal care) on Sunday.

We are severly understaffed due isolation, sickenss and long deserved annual leave.

All the fun stuff we had planned for a over year as been cancelled.

One off our covid patients died yesterday, the heartache and pain continues. She wasn't vacinnated.

I'm terrified it's going to be similar to January and I'm not sure I have emotional capacity to carry on.

LadyJaye · 19/07/2021 13:28

I commuted into central London this morning at 8am, and I'd say there was roughly 95% mask wearers and 100% social distancing in place (also tube was probably at about 30% capacity of what I would expect at that time and on that line).

MustBeThin · 19/07/2021 13:35

Dong I've hardly seen anyone round here without a mask throughout.

Wise I've followed every single rule throughout this pandemic, I've not seen a single family member since March 2020 because they live a few hours away and I didn't want to travel with masks, I've literally left the house once a month to go to the office and do the supermarket shop once a week. I've not bought a single item of clothing because I hate clothes shopping online. I have rosacea and my skin doesn't tolerate masks so I've avoided everything that wasn't compulsory. I've also had my first vaccination and I will have my second even though I didn't particularly want it as a healthy 31 year old. I did that to protect others. So yeah shopping without a mask today after all this time felt pretty fucking amazing actually.

hellcatspangle · 19/07/2021 13:40

No different really - I'm not feeling like there's much to be excited about at the moment with the number of cases round here, I've got two vulnerable parents so although I'm not scared of catching it myself, I'm worried about them.

Went to Tesco's earlier and I only saw one person not wearing a mask which surprised me, so many people have been talking about ditching them.

Thewiseoneincognito · 19/07/2021 13:41

I’m sure anyone you could have infected would accept that list of excuses as an apology. 🙄

I’m not sure how you can justify having a vaccination as helping others whilst then not bothering to wear a mask, I’m sure in some parallel universe there’s some logic in that 🤷🏻‍♀️

Best of luck taking your risks though. 💐

99victoria · 19/07/2021 13:41

We bought tickets yesterday for a festival due to take place next month near us. We're just going for the day but it'll be a whole family outing- 7 adults and 2 little ones. Very excited - great line-up and LIVE music - woohoo!

hellcatspangle · 19/07/2021 13:44

I'm also despairing at my twatting brother, who despite having a child with covid in the house, is merrily going about his business without a care in the world and refusing to isolate.

TheVampiresWife · 19/07/2021 13:45

@Thewiseoneincognito nice way to speak to someone who can't tolerate masks who has been avoiding being out in public as much as possible for a year and a half because of it.

If only you were as considerate of others.
