I know it’s been deemed “freedom day” but I personally will continue wearing my mask at work, shops and public transport which I use regularly.
I will also continue to maintain social distancing where possible.
Still feel like im going to be treading very carefully.
I’d be to nervous to go to a nightclub I think at this stage. Not that I get chance anyway 🤣

Apprehensive here. I do live in an area where people are much more careful than many report on mumsnet. I know my friends will continue to meet outside so that ok. I'll see how it goes in shops, I might go back to click and collect/ordering.

Sadly my DD just got up, telling me she's cancelled a couple of meet ups with friends. She's got a year abroad coming up with uni, really wants to avoid getting covid as she needs to have her second jab before going (being a student can't afford to quarantine).

HelloMissus · 19/07/2021 11:24

Apparently staff in the coffee shop next door have ditched masks and tables out back to normal ( reported by hair dresser).

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 19/07/2021 11:26

@Streamingbannersofdawn Grin me too
" for the greaterrrr good"

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 19/07/2021 11:28

Feel a bit removed from it all.
The numbers are growing rapidly in the trust I worked at. Staff are dropping like flies. That said it has always been a hotspot.

Youngest has had 3 days in in the past month due to cases in the year and other DC have missed a fair bit of time.
I was meant to go for cocktails this evening with my old uni friends but they've shut the bar as all the staff have covid and we can't get in anywhere else so not feeling particularly free.

Ardnassa · 19/07/2021 11:33

Just got double jabbed so taking it easy particularly over the next few weeks. Will continue to wear a mask in crowded indoor areas eg public transport and avoid places with too many people. Will be looking to socialise outside where possible.

So basically the same as it ever was. Expecting cases to continue to skyrocket - hoping not to catch Covid-19 as I know a fair few people with Long Covid and it seems pretty rotten.

NormaSnorks · 19/07/2021 11:34

Bored and a bit anxious because DS tested positive and I reckon if I'm going to have caught it from him I will know today/tomorrow, so I'm over-analysing every sniff, cough I make Grin.

Also feeling that the opening up is going to cause problems in other ways. I go to a hobby group that we've been doing socially distanced, however the organisers have decided that this is no longer necessary and seating will be 'back to normal' from this week. I've just had 3 emails from friends saying they think this is a bad idea and won't be attending while infection rates are so high.Sad

eternalopt · 19/07/2021 11:39

Not much change for me as I'm in wales. Bought some n95 masks for when I go to England so that if I want to wear them/need to wear them, I'm getting protection as well as those around me (as all the "personal choice" talk doesn't help when the masks help those around you more than yourself). Don't feel I'm missing out on anything I can't do across the border as wouldn't be rushing out to a nightclub anyway

Backofbeyond50 · 19/07/2021 11:47

Actually feeling glad we had a couple of weekends away before the changes. Lovely waiter service for drinks rather than a scramble at the bar.
No desire to visit nightclubs and a little concerned gyms are now less safe. Was going to join but will think again whilst cases are so high.
For context DH is ECV and is likely one of the small percentage of whom the vaccine doesn't work.
So we probably had more freedom before today.

Whatever9999 · 19/07/2021 11:51

I'm in my town centre for only 3rd time since March 2020. Mask exempt, but all the rules about where I can and can't walk stressed me out too much last time I attempted it (along with people not following the rules and my inability to communicate with people wearing masks).
I would say about 20% of people aren't wearing masks in shops, which does mean I'm getting less of the nasty glares and muttering under the breath. Most of the barriers separating the directions of the one way around the precinct have gone and I walked in the opposite direction to the one way signs on the floor.

Not saying it feels normal, but it's a lot less overwhelming and I'm stimming a lot less than my last visit and I've actually managed to buy myself some clothes

CeeJay81 · 19/07/2021 11:56

Anxious today cause I'm on a 6 hour train journey. Starts in Wales a d finishes in Scotland but most of which is in England. Got the same journey home on Friday. Shame we have to go through this to see my family but there we are.

Sarcobaleno · 19/07/2021 11:57

Relieved that I don't live in England and when I go out everyone is wearing a mask. Feel very sorry for those of you south of the border having such an inept, populist government.

Sarcobaleno · 19/07/2021 12:04

@dementedma

In Scotland, no change here. However despite all the rules and regulations we still have the highest rate of infection per head of population in the UK, so not sure what the point of it all is.
That's not true. England have higher rates than Scotland per 100000.
How are people feeling today?
BlackeyedSusan · 19/07/2021 12:10

Hot, headache, dizzy, first signs of heat exhaustion? Or just my normal medical conditions, who knows?
Pissed off as DD is isolating.

Yeah the government is pretty shit I'm England.

Not sure NS is really a shining example of good governance though......

OliveTree75 · 19/07/2021 12:12

I am completely fed up today. My DS entire bubble of 90 kids sent home AGAIN this morning from school for one positive lateral flow. Little boy breaking his heart!

towers14 · 19/07/2021 12:17

Over the moon, never intend to wear a mask again. Dd going nightclubbing tonight she's beyond excited, just how it should be, she's missed enough and I don't mean just clubbing.

No need to feel sorry for me, I certainly don’t rate Nippy much.
LuckyLuckyWoman · 19/07/2021 12:21

No difference for me. Been to the hairdressers and wore a mask. She asked if I wanted her to wear one. I said that was up to her, she did. Will be wearing it in Sainsburys later and have been told by work that we still have to wear one, though customers do not if they don't want. The 2m distancing I will probably be more relaxed about.

nonono1 · 19/07/2021 12:22

Pleased on the whole. Now we just need to get past this (inevitable) final wave and hopefully that will be that.

Sarcobaleno · 19/07/2021 12:24

@Ifitquacks and @Wakeupin2022 I was making no comment on Nicola Sturgeon, not a particular fan. Just glad we're still wearing masks and socially distancing a bit given infection rates.

Lottie4 · 19/07/2021 12:25

I was feeling a bit apprehensive first thing and know I won't be comfortable as numbers go up. However, looks like people are being to be fairly careful around here. Went to Tescos early, about 5% weren't wearing masks (some of those children and a few others would have been CEV). Had two deliveries - postman stood well back and delivery person volunteered to put heavy package in our hall, but would need me to stand back. I've been notified my exercise class will continue to be distanced even going into September and DD said everyone was wearing mask on bus. Phew.

lynsey91 · 19/07/2021 12:27

I am surprised so many of you know people that are ditching the mask. Of all my friends and family only 1 has said she will no longer wear a mask

As are a lot of people in england from what I’ve seen on my commute and lunch break today. Boris hasn’t banned masks and told people to stand close together, it’s just a shift to personal responsibility. Like most public health measures.

RumblyMumbly · 19/07/2021 12:29

As above pissed off that I have an isolating DC (who has probably arbritarily been told to isolate rather than actually being a close contact & the last contact before the schoolmates positive lft was more than 48 hrs before!)

Pissed off that we have such an inept Government. Johnson gave a handy reminder just how useless he is yesterday for anyone in any doubt or who had forgotten the Christmas debacle.

If not then when you ask, Boris? Well perhaps getting the cases under a semblance of control before opening up nightclubs and festivals without any mitigations you total numbskull. See how well that went in the Netherlands where the PM had to apologise and backtrack after it sparked a massive surge within weeks (from a much lower rate than in England now).

Government driven by dates not data, you are not giving people their freedom back, you are ruining most peoples summer with isolations!

But lots of people/ places in England will be doing that anyway

I don't feel hard done by in England just like I will just get on with it when I'm in Scotland.
