I know it’s been deemed “freedom day” but I personally will continue wearing my mask at work, shops and public transport which I use regularly.
I will also continue to maintain social distancing where possible.
Still feel like im going to be treading very carefully.
I’d be to nervous to go to a nightclub I think at this stage. Not that I get chance anyway 🤣

OP posts:
TheVampiresWife · 19/07/2021 09:00

So, so excited to go to my first gig in almost two years!

blameitonthecaffeine · 19/07/2021 09:00

No change for me today really but tomorrow I'm going to a big wedding. I'm surprisingly anxious about being around so many strangers. Not really because if Covid, more just because the idea of crowds and dancing and unstructured socialising just seems alien, scary and claustrophobic now. Sad

Beetlewing · 19/07/2021 09:02

I'm finally allowed to open my premises today so it feels fantastic! however, I'm leaving it another week In the hopes that by then the frenzy will have died down a bit.

LadyCatStark · 19/07/2021 09:04

Bemused by all of the ridiculously OTT, waking, hand wringing threads and posts on MN 😂 (not this one but some are just crazy!)

HummingBeeBox · 19/07/2021 09:21

I totally forgot and won't be changing what I do. I may visit the shops less if they don't feel safe

HoldingTheDoor · 19/07/2021 09:22

Incredibly envious. I'm unfortunately in Scotland.

It's nutty isn't it. And not a reflection of real life at all.
HelloMissus · 19/07/2021 09:26

I’m literally about to step into the hairdressers.
I’ve got a mask and will wear it if they ask, but won’t I’d they don’t care.

DS is off to a nightclub tonight.
An event that’s been re-arranged several times.
He’s so excited!

tappitytaptap · 19/07/2021 09:28

Yes I find mumsnet totally different to real life! Of my circle of friends there is only one who is anxious in any way and that is more about isolation than covid. I am more worried about isolation than actually getting covid too! On the way to my second jab right now and needle phobic so not relishing the prospect. I have definitely done this for the ‘greater good’ and not for myself!

the80sweregreat · 19/07/2021 09:33

My friends have young teens who are being pinged and being told to isolate ( schools are all shut now )
The pubs are all closing locally as lack of staff , the one nightclub in town was going to open on Friday and now it isn't.

'Freedom day' . it isn't here ! ( I'll still wear a mask in the stores though)

OrangeBananaFish · 19/07/2021 09:35

Crap. My LFT was positive this morning and have just had a PCR so waiting for results. I've no official symptoms, but feel like I have a bad cold. Hence taking the LFT. Oh and to top it off my 2nd jab was due Saturday so that's going to be put on hold

It's bonkers Confused

I don't know anyone like this in real life. Vast majority of people I know are excited to ditch masks etc. A few are a bit nervous but don't mind what anyone else is doing. MN really is like a parallel universe for me.

Mum21031608 · 19/07/2021 09:37

I feel dread.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 19/07/2021 09:38

I'm a bit tired and have a bad cold but otherwise ok.

thanks for asking

Ipanemama · 19/07/2021 09:42

I have a scan at an nhs hospital today. I’ll be wearing a mask. Last week of school for my dc, amazingly they are still in despite cases at school.

Streamingbannersofdawn · 19/07/2021 09:46

I'm currently in isolation as a contact so I feel rubbish.

My son is still at school so I am worried about further isolation! Although the school have been great and seem to have taken the approach that the final few days should be done outside. I dont blame them.

I'm double jabbed so is the rest of the household except for DS.

(Whenever anyone says "The greater good" I think about Hot Fuzz and internally giggle)

Tinpotspectator · 19/07/2021 09:47

Same, OP. I think our approach to "managing" a pandemic is beyond brainless.

DappledThings · 19/07/2021 09:51

My main emotion today is curiosity about how much mask wearing will continue.

I'm not bothered either way really. I will continue to wear one where either mandated or requested but not otherwise. Nursery have requested masks remain at pick up and drop off so I will. Probably won't bother in Sainsbury's unless they also specifically request it.

eandz13 · 19/07/2021 09:58

@SuperstoreFan

What's there to be excited about? The numbers are sky rocketing, my husband's manager is being an absolute twat and I can't shake the feeling that we are in for a really rough time.
Won't the numbers 'sky rocket' whether we lift restrictions now, in 1 years time, or 5 years time? Since you can catch it more than once, still catch it when you're double jabbed, and it's going to be doing virus stuff like circulating all the time. I've seen this worry a lot today... Hmm
dreamingbohemian · 19/07/2021 10:00

Frustrated

I'm not worried about getting covid personally, it's not an anxiety thing.

But they are already cancelling tubes and trains because they don't have enough staff, pubs and shops are not able to open, they are exempting loads of people from isolating because otherwise key services will grind to a halt

If we go up to 100-200K cases a day, it's only going to get worse, but no one seems to care, it's frustrating

I think I now need to watch Hot Fuzz again as I can’t remember the reference 😂
HelloMissus · 19/07/2021 10:53

In my hairdressers and they did ask me to wear a mask.
That’s fine - I’m ambivalent.
They’re worried about having to close (lost a lot of money during lockdowns).

WeHaveComeSoFar · 19/07/2021 11:04

Happy. Packing as DP and I are off to London for a break. Will wear masks on public transport, but probably won't in shops.

Ohdoleavemealone · 19/07/2021 11:09

Feels no different to yesterday.

Nicnic91 · 19/07/2021 11:11

Popped to Big Tesco’s this morning - one customer not wearing a mask. About 5 staff not wearing one though.
