Anyone want to predict when the next lockdown will be?

I am guessing last week of August/beginning of September, and schools won't be going back when they are due to!

Furlough and business grants/loans.

Exactly - and we can longer afford to keep dishing these out

MrsPsmalls · 18/07/2021 17:23

Well lock down in the Netherlands was about 4 days after freedom day, so on that score, by the end of the week. But Boris won't have the courage to do it straight away so probably about September 10 is my guess.

WaterBottle123 · 18/07/2021 17:24

@BillyShears

Depends how quickly it gets bad, but I know for sure the next lockdown will be circa 2 weeks - a month after it would have been sensible.
@BillyShears

No you don't, stop being ridiculous.

Remmy123 · 18/07/2021 17:24

There will be no lockdown

Seriously who is actually going to do it anyway?!

What did they do full lockdown?

Reading this thread it's like none of you understand that ALL PANDEMICS end not matter how much you're enjoying the drama and time off work.

History lessons for the lot of you.

Charlize43 · 18/07/2021 17:27

My partner told me she saw something in the DM (sorry, not a great source) saying it was going to be September followed by a huge response in the comments of people demanding that furlough be extended for another year.

The conspiratory theorists seem to think that was is the payoff or bribe so that's why September is pegged.

I must admit I've lost all credibility in this government actually knowing what they are doing.

Many don’t want it if you did read thread.
Cornettoninja · 18/07/2021 17:28

@AlecTrevelyan006 do you think that business in general has realised the impact of this fully or are we going to see calls for support/bailouts in coming months?

I’m sorry to say that I think the governments handling of this hasn’t fully communicated the fact that lifting of restrictions does not mean business as usual c2019.

Expectations have been managed so, so badly.

MarshaBradyo · 18/07/2021 17:29

@AlecTrevelyan006

What’s the difference between businesses not operating because of lockdown and not operating because of isolation / positive cases?
Won’t Aug 16 help with this?

This feels a bigger change than tomorrow in some ways

Blinky21 · 18/07/2021 17:35

October

ahoyshipmates · 18/07/2021 17:36

If I were a betting woman I'd say October half-term.

Yes, but it's not going to end this year, is it?

The question is 'How do we manage the ongoing pandemic this year, in such a way as to minimise illness, death and damage to the health service, while also not completely trashing the economy unless we have to'.

Newpuppymummy · 18/07/2021 17:37

I think maybe October/November time but don’t think schools will close again

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 18/07/2021 17:39

My manager has literally walked out the door because I started my shift about 15 minutes ago and he was in the midst of discussing just this
He is absolutely adamant we will be in lockdown in 4 weeks , he was absolutely not taking no for an answer and wanted to know my proof and the dickhead is sulking when I tried to discuss hospitalization and figures and vaccinations.its.ok when I'm still sat in the very seat in 2 months time I'll being it back up and watch him backpedal..very fast

Backofbeyond50 · 18/07/2021 17:39

I don't think the Govt have the appetite for further Lockdowns so I can't see it happening unless the NHS gets totally overwhelmed. Way more than usual Winter pressures. Than I guess some measures will be introduced.

Deux · 18/07/2021 17:40

@Cornettoninja there was a discussion about that on the radio yesterday but in respect of the Delta variant. That immunity as a result of vaccination + wild infection was really high and higher than either individually. I got distracted but I they were talking about T cell immunity from wild infection or something.

tintodeverano2 · 18/07/2021 17:40

October/November

cantkeepawayforever · 18/07/2021 17:41

I think that's fair. I think that schools will stay open (ish - lots of absences for illness) but other restrictions will be in place.
KatherineJaneway · 18/07/2021 17:44

@MagicSummer

Well, when you hear that supermarkets are taking away the social distancing marking on the floors, you do worry about what the hell is going to happen!
No one has social distanced in my local Tesco for a year 😂

Sssshhh don't say that, you'll ruin (some) people's Sunday evening!
CrystalBollocks · 18/07/2021 17:46

It will begin on 3rd November at 03.04. I know this because I can see into the future.

Otherwise, I agree with every word of @Hairwizard 's post.

Things tightened up again after this - not sure where they are now, but not in a good place

GlassOfPort · 18/07/2021 17:47

I don't think there will be another full blown lockdown, as vaccines have weakened (not broken) the link between infections and hospitalizations and given us a bit more room for manoeuvre.

However, children (and million of young adults) have not been vaccinated, so there's still plenty of people the virus can infect. In these circumstances, it seems reasonable to expect that some restrictions will be re-introduced once schools re-open in September.
