I live in France and Macron has just made a speech saying that from the end of July, vaccination or a negative test is going to be compulsory for cultural and entertainment venues. From August, it’ll be compulsory for cafes and restaurants too. This applies to all 12+.

PCR tests will become paid as of September, to encourage vaccination.

I’m already vaccinated, thankfully, and I do think it’s necessary to contain the delta variant. But wowza, I’m waiting to hear the backlash in the morning. Macron is up for reelection next year as well, they must be very desperate to contain this…

testing will only find the people already infected. I'd much rather have people vaccinated so they are much less likely to get infected in the first place.

They haven't specified as much as I've seen but close contact cases will most likely still get a free prescription. The payment is for people who want a test for their restaurant pass.

What were
the 90 0000 pregnant women in the USA who were tracked post the vaccine to see if there was increase in miscarriage, still birth or birth defects or prem labour.. Doing?
And this research demonstrated there was nothing in the vaccine that could cross the placental barrier...

I can only assume that the people who are so paranoid that all this is the government out to get them haven't seen the real effects of covid? Where I live the ice rink had to be used as a morgue because of the sheer number of bodies piling up!!!!! Four of my friends have lost their parents and another's husband was 6 months in the ICU at 48 years old. This is a killer virus!! The governments of the world are in a frenzy to try and control it without causing an economic catastrophe. Some of the comments... 🙄

So what is your alternative solution if government has already asked nicely and explained for months and months why it is important that all people who can get vaccinated, get vaccinated? And people simply couldn't be bothered. Have you seen the cases exploding all over the place again?

If telling people that they can't go to restaurants unless they are either vaccinated or tested, then this measure is totally proportional. You don't have to go to restaurants, it's not essential, order takeout.

I know this is a contentious issue, but it is very unfair that lockdown affects everyone and those who are choosing not to be vaccinated are impacting those who are vaccinated.
Let everyone have freedom but then in the next lockdown, make it so those who can prove exemption either through vaccination or anti bodies have freedom.
Choice is choice and if I chose to have the vaccine, why should I get my freedom taken away because others choose not to?
Like I said, contentious, but what is the point of a vaccine if we still have no freedom.

So now it doesn't matter if people die or get long term effects from the vaccine? Didn't we say no one should be dying from covid? I get all treatments have to be weighed up against the amount that survive against the few that dont but people have become so callous. The mother of that child she put up for testing wool now have to look after her for the rest of her life with no help from the government as she signed to say they not responsible and carry that guilt cos the government certainly won't. Pitting humans against humans, a sad day for society

And most people think it’s a wonderful idea. But it’s a slow creep. It will be other jobs soon.

I worked in care for years, I’ve been on threads on here where the consensus is that all is care workers are too thick to understand vaccinations anyway (there was a couple of awful threads a few weeks ago). No one cares about low paid care workers. It’s hard enough to retain and recruit staff to jobs in care anyway, good luck now.

But I’m with you. It’s shocking. And what more shocking is the people crying out for mandatory vaccinations.

Maybe they read to legal letter from Doctor White who was fired for whilst blowing. Maybe they have been reading all the medical journals that are warning about vaccines and the adverse events. over 1400 dead in UK alone and over million adverse events according to the government stats. Maybe they also saw that nothing changed after taking the vaccine transmission still possible infection still possible and many vaccinated still getting sick even after double jabbing. But you wont hear this on this site which has always been driven by pharma reps, 77th and the governments behavioural insights team directing how you think and behave.

Regarding the 'mandatory vaccination' outrage my husband has to have vaccinations as part of his job. I don't really understand why people seem to think this is a new thing?

EXACTLY it's not exactly forcing those to CHOOSE not to have the vaccine to be deported to labour camps

Can i respectfully suggest that those who want to discuss the situation in the UK start another thread? This thread is about the French situation.

Somone I know who is very active in our community has gone to an anti-vaccine protest, mixing with hundreds of others without masks or distancing. I'm really pissed off about this. We have been largely spared the delta variant until now in our little community, but this kind of reckless carry-on is just going to make it run rife.

@XenoBitch I was thinking about the red robes just this morning! Most may say it is far fetched but hearing some people speak lately, I fully understand how something like this could happen!

1. Please don't keep saying "and visitors" - it's misleading because it suggests that people can't visit their loved ones without being vaccinated, which is not the case, workers are included in the legislation but visitors are not.

1. Would be good to make clear that many will be exempt from this requirement, eg for medical reasons.

1. The Bryan Bridle thing has been comprehensively debunked, please don't share misinformation like this.

1. Is your figure of 1400 dead from the MHRA yellow card reporting system? So the link between vaccine and death not yet proved? Even if all these deaths were caused by vaccination, this is out of more than 80 million doses in more than 46 million people. The chance of it happening is 0.003%, 3 thousandths of one percent. It's very, very small.

1. Please don't claim that nothing has changed since vaccination when the rate of hospitalisation and death is now so much lower. Many, many lives are being saved. (Many more than 1400, that's for sure.)

1. Please don't claim this story "hasn't made it to the press", because that is an outright lie. It's been covered by all the newspapers and broadcast media.

Loud my point is, if they can coerce people into medical things they don't want, that's got to be next on the hitlist. Once "my body, my choice" is gone, the precedent is set.
