I live in France and Macron has just made a speech saying that from the end of July, vaccination or a negative test is going to be compulsory for cultural and entertainment venues. From August, it’ll be compulsory for cafes and restaurants too. This applies to all 12+.

PCR tests will become paid as of September, to encourage vaccination.

I’m already vaccinated, thankfully, and I do think it’s necessary to contain the delta variant. But wowza, I’m waiting to hear the backlash in the morning. Macron is up for reelection next year as well, they must be very desperate to contain this…

Doesn’t Denmark have something similar too?

EileenGC · 12/07/2021 23:56

@XenoBitch you can either present your vaccination booklet with your Covid jab stamps - paper form - or for those with a smartphone, you can have it converted into a QR code that gets added to one of the official Covid apps, or that of your healthcare insurer/Doctolib. They’ve thought of everything, and for over 3 months the whole thing has been running very smoothly.

And for people who have not had the vaccine... how does it work?

Yep
EileenGC · 13/07/2021 00:02

@XenoBitch you have 3 options:

  • Vaccination certificate (as above)
  • Recovery certificate (max. 6 months)
  • Negative test, no older than 24h

They’re all equally valid and so far the tests are free, and available at every corner basically. For restaurants, shopping centres (recently exempt I believe), cultural events, sporting events, church services if over 50 people, and a long list of etc.

the idea of covid passports is digital ID for everyone by the back door, without the general population working out what is going on until it’s too late

theemmadilemma · 13/07/2021 00:03

It was rumoured he was going to announce mandatory vaccination for public workers. Sounds like he backed down, probably for the best. 😂

I don’t know how it’ll work in the UK but many countries will continue accepting paper vaccination booklets. Let’s not forget many other countries have also had compulsory ID cards, with all info digitalised, for decades now. Personally I’m not seeing any change - I was already carrying those two documents (or using them frequently) everywhere I went.

Tests are free though. That is key.
To add cost to them to encourage vaccine uptake.. when like I said in a pp that charging for tests wont cure the anxieties of the hesitant.... it leaves an awful taste in my mouth. I hate what this world has become.

Homeontherangeuk · 13/07/2021 00:10

Republic of Ireland is doing the same

EileenGC · 13/07/2021 00:10

Charging for tests definitely isn’t on. I’m now afraid Germany will follow France’s lead and start charging for tests in autumn, once everyone has had plenty of time to get jabbed.

I’ll be fully vaccinated end of this week, but I work in one of the above mentioned industries, and I’m concerned about some of my colleagues who have decided they don’t want the jab. Will they not be allowed to come to work? It’s worrying.

sleepwouldbenice · 13/07/2021 00:15

Not convince for cafes and restaurants and of course tests should be free but can't see an issue with this
There are a wide range of reasons why people won't have had a vaccine but this gives everyone the opportunity to step up and play a part in getting us out of this mess
Why not?

VoiceFaceArse · 13/07/2021 00:16

Charging for the tests is the only issue. I presume it’s trying to force people into having the vaccine.

It wouldn’t make me have the vaccine, I’d pay for tests if I had to. It’s going to basically force some people out of society though. If people are happy with that, I’m not sure that’s a society I’d want to be a part of anyway.

Same.

How much are these tests? I bet my last £ it is not the price of a coffee. Which is literally what I would be having a test for.

Well done. Shows leadership

Yes.

Strong, decisive leadership.

He doesn't want the world, or at least vaccine, beating UK variant that the Westminster government is aiming to create.

Good for Ireland too.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 13/07/2021 00:31

I am slightly supportive of this scientific pandemic public health approach. I have reservations regarding those who may due to medical vulnerabilities or complications not have the option to be vaccinated as this hopefully small and semi shielded cohort should be provided with complimentary frequent testing to allow some flexibility for the least medically privileged.

I think France and many of our continental neighbouring nations have elected to follow a science and safety first approach away from popularity politics. I understand the French leadership are somewhat different from the attitudes of our hopeless corrupt gaslighting and incompetent English comedy of errors excuse for a government with more authority as they don’t shamelessly break their own rules. The French are I am assuming, unlike England not hoping the children will be used as an unprotected deliberately left to super spread amongst themselves with no school risk mitigation measures in over crowded schools for herd immunity experiment to protect the more vulnerable adult population. The French care more about their children and preventing long Covid disabilities among the unvaccinated younger population.

Not for the vulnerable patients and care home residents it isn't.

So anyone from the UK visiting France with kids older than 12 won’t be able to take them into anywhere?

If sensible advance nations such as France and Canada are proactively vaccinating older children I would love to take my child to get vaccinated in France or Canada for added protection! However my child is under twelve and so too young to be vaccinated in any nation as far as I know unless that changes too.

You can - by getting them tested. It might cost you more than the actual holiday, mind you.

Please remember that some people CANNOT have the vaccine for medical reasons.

Should they have to pay ££ every time they wish to have a meal out/watch a film in the cinema etc? Or just stay at home? Is there an ‘exempt’ policy?

We will have to stay at home too.. along with the filthy mask exempt people who have been wafting Covid about too.
ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 13/07/2021 00:45

Vaccination and proper professional grade laboratory diagnostic PCR tracked and sequenced testing is the only way forward if it’s following the science and data. This will hopefully allow the Covid free to keep all society and business sectors open to save lives and livelihoods is a more sustainable longer term solution. The ill and contagious can then be treated away from causing more super spreading and further lockdown restrictions.
