I live in France and Macron has just made a speech saying that from the end of July, vaccination or a negative test is going to be compulsory for cultural and entertainment venues. From August, it’ll be compulsory for cafes and restaurants too. This applies to all 12+.

PCR tests will become paid as of September, to encourage vaccination.

I’m already vaccinated, thankfully, and I do think it’s necessary to contain the delta variant. But wowza, I’m waiting to hear the backlash in the morning. Macron is up for reelection next year as well, they must be very desperate to contain this…

Since Macron made the announcement 2.25 million people have made appointments for vaccination, 62% of the population are in favour of the rule, only 17% are actively against it (interestingly about the same proportion that vote for the national front). Across France 7800 people took to the streets to protest which is nothing in a country where protesting is a national sport.

Lilly24 · 14/07/2021 19:15

I think having tests (and proof of a negative) before going into a public place would work much better than masks and lockdowns have 🤷‍♀️ Probably not if you have to pay for them though as who could afford to take them every time they went out? 🙈 As for the vaccines, I don't think anyone should be forced to have them. They don't even prevent you from getting covid 🙄

OnTheBrink1 · 14/07/2021 19:19

No parent should feel forced to give their child this vaccine.
I pray to god that no horrid life changing side effects come to light during the next couple of years from the vaccine.

Gwenhwyfar · 14/07/2021 19:25

Fair enough really. It's either restrictions for everyone or restrictions just for those who refuse the vaccine isn't it?

I know children who are as we speak experiencing horrid life-changing effects of the Covid-19 virus. I know what their parents would say to you. And not to mention of course the family members infected by asymptomatic children and teens.
Tealightsandd · 14/07/2021 19:31

Meanwhile significant numbers of people - including thousands of children - are suffering from horrid life changing and disabling Long Covid.

I know the UK's current vaccine supplies are tight, but you'd like think that at the very least the government would offer CV over 12s the jab.

Macron showing strong leadership.

They had the vaccine because they will unable to live normally without it. The protests are small because it's impossible to fight against a dictatorship where it will soon be impossible to protest without a pass sanitaires. It's disgraceful that we will have to vaccinate our children with a vaccination which is untested and about which the negative side effects are not spoken about on MSM.

Yes, that pretty much sums it up!
Tealightsandd · 14/07/2021 19:38

The vaccination is tested samthebordercollie. Unlike Long Covid.

GintyMcGinty · 14/07/2021 19:44

Good for them. They should do this everywhere. Best way to persuade the anti vaxxer muppets to comply.

ilovesooty · 14/07/2021 19:48

Johnson won't have the balls to do it here. Too afraid of upsetting his backbenchers.

Theredjellybean · 14/07/2021 19:53

@Tealightsandd
They have given vaccine to cv and others aged over 12 here in UK.
My dsd aged 16 had both hers, first in January... She has significant health issue.
I vaccinated a good few younger teens last week who all had cev relatives at home living with them.

MarshaBradyo · 14/07/2021 19:53

Do you think the majority would be ok with it here?

Feels like more pro posters in France but that probably isn’t easy to compare due to proportion of posters from each country

newnortherner111 · 14/07/2021 19:55

Emmanuel Macron was not afraid to sack the previous French Prime Minister for his inadequate response to Covid last year. Unlike Mr Johnson who has not sacked a minister who broke rules (Robert Jenrick), a bully (Priti Patel), one who employed someone he has a relationship with (Matt Hancock), or an advisor who 'tests his eyesight' (Dominic Cummings).

The only Prime Minister of an EU country I would not have in preference to Mr Johnson is the Hungarian one.

Hmm Do let me know which vaccine you created which is 100% successful

[quote AlecTrevelyan006]A fair few protests going on in France at the moment - but their MSM is acting in the same way as it does in the U.K. by pretty much ignoring it

I think Le Monde still counts as MSM:
www.lemonde.fr/politique/article/2021/07/14/des-milliers-de-personnes-mobilisees-en-france-contre-le-passe-sanitaire_6088263_823448.html

And Le Figaro:

"The protests are small because it's impossible to fight against a dictatorship where it will soon be impossible to protest without a pass sanitaires."

If you really think that would stop the French protesting then you know nothing about France.

I've lived and worked here for 20 years thank you, so know a little. It's also summer holidays and people have better things to do than protest.
P999 · 14/07/2021 20:10

Covid sniffer dogs. I've been banging on about it for over a year, but doesn't seem to be on anyones horizon...

Kitkat151 · 14/07/2021 20:10

@IRanSoFarAway1

I'm vaccinated

I've always said I won't go anywhere this is a requirement

I'm worried it will extend to the Tube....I really hope that's just impossible

Appalling precedent to set

Abortion bans incoming I'm sure.

So will you not be travelling on the tube now?
Staffy1 · 14/07/2021 20:12

Seems a sensible thing to do but it will make people like my friend who is usually very sensible, but is very much into all the wildest conspiracy theories about the covid vaccine, even more distrustful of it. She’s already suggested this would happen world wide, forcing people to get vaccinated (which is apparently going to ensure the drastic thinning out of the population) to live freely.

MyDcAreMarvel · 14/07/2021 20:12

What a sensible decision , excellent leadership, and then we have Boris!

No. They really arnt. The MSM would like you to believe that though. What is happening, is that children are being given an emergency use vaccine that has not been tested long term. One that has already had various unexpected side effects that are just not getting reported. The risk is worth it for most adults 30+. However, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there are far more ill effects and even deaths from the vaccine given to children than there has been long covid and covid death. God I hope I’m wrong, because it’s too late now.
Mumtotwofurbabies · 14/07/2021 20:15

I am completely pro vaccine, but I hope in France they have exemptions for people who need to wait to get the vaccine. For example I’m pregnant and need to wait until after December when baby is here to get 2nd AZ jab ( on doctors advice btw) as it hasn’t been tested properly on pregnant women. I wouldn’t be so badly off as could afford the PCR tests I guess
