I live in France and Macron has just made a speech saying that from the end of July, vaccination or a negative test is going to be compulsory for cultural and entertainment venues. From August, it’ll be compulsory for cafes and restaurants too. This applies to all 12+.

PCR tests will become paid as of September, to encourage vaccination.

I’m already vaccinated, thankfully, and I do think it’s necessary to contain the delta variant. But wowza, I’m waiting to hear the backlash in the morning. Macron is up for reelection next year as well, they must be very desperate to contain this…

@DareIask

Can't see the problem really but I'm very pro vaccine.
I'm with you. I wish we could do that in the US, but the States are too autonomous. In June, 99% of all COVID-19 deaths here were among the unvaccinated. That says something.
Dustyboots · 14/07/2021 18:10

Cold hard truth is that the only way our of this is vaccination. Yes vaccination effectiveness might wave with time, but then that just means boosters are needed, it is not an argument against vaccination.

Hmmm - how long and how often do you want us to have boosters for?

ejhhhhh · 14/07/2021 18:13

As long as necessary. Or you just accept the deaths that come with not vaccinating. I'd rather have the boosters.

IvyM · 14/07/2021 18:28

It's an interesting move considering that it still hasn't been established whether the vaccine is safe for certain segments of the population (moderna has just started a study to establish whether it causes miscarriages in pregnant women or deformities in new borns).

whynotwhatknot · 14/07/2021 18:29

Whereas in england theyre dropping all restrictions and letting herd immunity take place

i dont agree with paying for a test but if uptake is so low theve got to try something

crowisland · 14/07/2021 18:33

Pro-health policy that accounts for genuine risk is progressive and enlightened. Anti-abortion is the opposite.

tiredofitall99 · 14/07/2021 18:34

@loulouljh

Bloody hell-who is vaccinating their kids??!!! Have you not looked at what has happened in the US?! You are truly insane. Poor poor kids.
exactly... oh if only there was maybe some government data that's published on the deaths and reactions in the 12-15 bracket, in the states and Israel... sideways glance to the camera :-)
TulipWoodpecker · 14/07/2021 18:37

@MrsWooster

Haven't rtft so this may have been said already. I just tried to add my pfizer vaccination QR code (UK) into the TousAntiCovid app (French equivalent of the NHS test trace app) which is where people will keep their 'passe sanitaire'. In impeccable English, it told me to va t'en : "This certificate cannot be imported. Only French EU Digital Covid Certificates can be accepted in TousAntiCovid. The EU digital covid certificates from other European countries will nevertheless be properly verified by the authorities also in paper or electronic format)" So Brexit has fucked us again. I think it is going to be a while until we see our French holiday home again.
The french government has said that NHS proof of vaccine will be accepted here. You'll be fine. It's the other way round - we Brits in France wanting to go back to the UK - that's the problem. The UK currently won't accept our proof of vaccine. 😡
TulipWoodpecker · 14/07/2021 18:38

'Here' meaning France.

Angelil · 14/07/2021 18:44

@igelkott2021 And will it ever be removed for international travel?

I bloody hope so. I live in the Netherlands, am double-vaccinated (as indeed are all my friends and family in the U.K.) and seriously resent paying this to be able to come and visit my family in the U.K.

ALongHardWinter · 14/07/2021 18:44

I take it that they are vaccinating 12 - 18 year olds in France then?

Carrotinthesky · 14/07/2021 18:45

Can't see the problem really but I'm very pro vaccine

Yup. Agree. He's putting his money where his mouth is.

chaosmaker · 14/07/2021 18:47

@IRanSoFarAway1

Loud my point is, if they can coerce people into medical things they don't want, that's got to be next on the hitlist. Once "my body, my choice" is gone, the precedent is set.
An abortion doesn't affect the population at large except by not putting another person on the planet so only in a positive way. The pandemic, as smoking, affects everyone. The first anyone with a body and the second, anyone who has to breathe. I don't think it's coercion and there also needs to be some mitigation for people that can't have the vaccine for legitimate reasons.
Angelil · 14/07/2021 18:47

Totally agree @HilaryThorpe. It’s scandalous.

hummasandcondensedmilk · 14/07/2021 18:52

I'm really not surprised this would happen in France. The amount of government control there is quite scary. If I was in France I would do everything in my power to emigrate.

Angelil · 14/07/2021 18:52

@Melitza totally agree. We are literally being treated as second class citizens.

MollyMinniesMum · 14/07/2021 18:53

I’m Glad I am in France!

TulipWoodpecker · 14/07/2021 18:56

@ALongHardWinter

Yes. Started back in June.
TulipWoodpecker · 14/07/2021 18:57

@MollyMinniesMum

I’m Glad I am in France!
Me too!
MrsWooster · 14/07/2021 18:59

Ah, TulipWoodpecker
Brexit is an equal opportunities fuckerupper! Let’s hope sense prevails and vaccination certificates are universal.

Tealwarrior · 14/07/2021 18:59

Where I am anyone in a government job or the military etc will lose their job if they don’t have the vaccine.

MercyBooth · 14/07/2021 19:01

The UK currently won't accept our proof of vaccine

Ridiculous.

Frenchfancy · 14/07/2021 19:07

Emigrate to where exactly? Certainly not the UK with Boris et al in charge.

I'll stick to France thank you very much, at least our government is doing something. Kids only missed 2 weeks of school in the last school year.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 14/07/2021 19:11

Finally something the man's done I agree with.
