If the app pinged you now, would you isolate?

Just wondering how people are responding at this stage given the changes they want to make to the app (things like sensitivity and NHS/double jabbed status).

@Unanananana

No, the app is not fit for purpose. I had it until my friend got pinged through a brick wall because her next door neighbour tested positive. I couldn't afford to be off for ten days for that sort of thing.

@ifonly4 if you are vaccinated you have a lower chance of transmitting it to my children who have a very very low risk of becoming seriously ill. I would take that risk to ensure my children get their education. The guidelines for isolation are all coming to an end shortly. What difference does a few weeks make?

We need to learn to live with this now. We cannot hide in our homes forever.

Meanwhile my DS has to, or at least until his hospital deems it safe for him to venture outside. DM who he lives with says he's now become agoraphobic.

A few weeks ago my answer would have been yes of course. Now I’m seeing so many people who are not doing it I’d feel like a fool if I isolated just because of the app.

For Mummasdiary2021

The point of wearing a mask is to protect others not you. Selfish and inconsiderate not to wear a mask unless you gave a genuine reason.

redandwhite1 · 11/07/2021 08:49

Yes because I've had COVID and wouldn't want to pass it onto someone knowingly

Anyone who ignores it deserves to get it and then they might think twice about their actions

Blueskytoday06 · 11/07/2021 08:49

No. I had a ping and deleted the app.

MargosKaftan · 11/07/2021 09:03

I haven't deleted the app, mainly because its quicker to scan in somewhere that faff about registering your details. But I've switched off the contact tracing.

I was thinking about it yesterday when I went to the library, I checked in, but theres no check out option. How long does it guess I was there for?! I was back outside within 15 minutes.

When I dont need to check in to places like the library or restaurants from 19th, I'll probably delete it.

I don't really get that bit of the App WRT checking into places. How and why would you be contacted? Especially if contract tracing is switched off.

Hollywhiskey · 11/07/2021 09:35

@MargosKaftan according to the poster it checks you out at midnight or when you check in somewhere else. That worries me in case someone comes in two hours later who goes on to test positive!

So you check in at 10am for an hour or so to have your hair done/have dinner and it thinks you are there til midnight? And they paid good money to invent this App? Confused

MargosKaftan · 11/07/2021 09:42

As far as I can tell, switching off contact tracing means its not constantly checking where you are and which other phones are in close proximity (via Bluetooth). But if you check in somewhere it logs that you were there, and who else was also there.

But if it keeps you signed in until midnight, it thinks I arrived at the library at 11:10am, and stayed there until 00:00, so everyone else who checked in after 11:10am would be seen as a contact of mine if they test positive today/tomorrow. And therefore I could also get pinged by someone who arrived at 10am and left before I got there but didn't have contact tracing on so just stayed logged in until midnight as well. Fabulous.

Won't bother paying any attention to the app then.

Sparklingbrook · 11/07/2021 09:45

I have contact tracing off but do check into places and now I'm hovering over the 'delete' option...

Ablababla · 11/07/2021 09:49

Yes I did. I had to cancel an event that I’d been planning for a year. If I’d had to pick only one thing I wanted to do this year this event would have been it.. I’m really bummed about it. Now a feel like a fool too because apparently it’s not reliable and should be ignored.

dementedma · 11/07/2021 09:52

Dont have the app, never had it. Double vaccinated and just getting on with life

Don't feel like a fool. I also did a week of isolation because the App said it was necessary. Even though the date of my supposed contact I couldn't have been anywhere near a person for the required amount of time. If I had the App on with contact tracing and I got an alert I'd isolate.
MrsSkylerWhite · 11/07/2021 09:55

Yes and get tested

Treezan82 · 11/07/2021 10:01

Why have the app if you wouldn't isolate? I assume you either would or wouldn't have the app? (I don't have it)

MsMartini · 11/07/2021 10:04

You won't be asked to isolate as a result of venue check-in, so the timing thing is not an issue. If you were there on the same day as someone who tested positive, you might be asked to get a test and be aware. No harm in that, surely? Being asked to isolate is only via the bluetooth contact tracing side of the app.

RiverSkater · 11/07/2021 10:15

No, I've deleted the app as we are away this weekend. I'm steering well clear of everybody, sanitising and praying nothing happens at school this week.

I'm self employed and can't do this anymore.

I've been to several places where they make you check in on the app at the door before you go in. It's pretty much the only reason I have it. A vaccinated person with no symptoms does not need to disrupt their lives and imprison themselves because some shitheap app tells them too.

Hancock's "world beating" app told my DD that she had been inside a restaurant for 7 hours! Er, no. Her and her boyfriend were the only two sat outside the restaurant for an hour and a half. Then she'd been in the bar attached to said restaurant for 3 hours. Again, no - they'd stopped at the bar on the way out to get a bottle of wine to take home.

Waste of time.

How did she get all the detail from the App? All I could get was the day of the supposed contact.

The app does not check you out of places as you leave. It resets at 23.59 that night. So on one of the few days I did use it I was apparently up The Shard in London AND at a Pret coffee shop just along the road from it until midnight. Simultaneously. 🤔

Clever that. 😉 I can now apparently be in several places at once. Would have been useful if I could have done that sometimes when the DDs were children, but hey ho! 🤣

Topseyt · 11/07/2021 10:57

Oh, and I was also simultaneously at Zizzis for my evening meal. As was DH.

App now deleted.
