If the app pinged you now, would you isolate?

Just wondering how people are responding at this stage given the changes they want to make to the app (things like sensitivity and NHS/double jabbed status).

OP posts:

No and I wouldn’t as a close contact either (I would if, for example, my husband or daughter tested positive, but my daughter’s nursery bubble ‘burst’ recently and I didn’t isolate her.)

AbiJo · 10/07/2021 18:11

No! I deleted the app today.

FindingMeno · 10/07/2021 18:13

Don't have the app.
Would want to assess the relevant information and would self isolate if it was correct.

LubaLuca · 10/07/2021 18:19

Yes, I've been praying to get isolated.

I'm the only one in our house that hasn't had to, and I would like a week in bed watching Netflix instead of going to work.

@LucilleTheVampireBat no one paid my bills when I caught COVID, from someone who clearly didn't isolate! No desire to get it again either! If everyone followed the rules we wouldn't be in the crap situation we are in now. Play your part.

NautaOcts · 10/07/2021 18:44

Not just from the app, no. But I would do lateral flow tests.
It’s advisory not a requirement.
Phone call from test and trace, yes. Would be annoying as id consider the risk v low after being double jabbed but I would.

NoseringGirl · 10/07/2021 18:54

I'm on my last day of isolating today after getting pinged by the app. It's been a miserable 8 days since I was pinged but I just wouldn't have felt right about going out knowing I've had contact and could be infectious.

WheresMySnackPack · 10/07/2021 19:00

Reading some of these responses, I now understand why we're still in this mess. Pathetic.

wasthataburp · 10/07/2021 19:16

@Trillogy101

Can't believe how many selfish *** there are on here to be honest. Despicable.
Oh so who is going to pay these peoples bills or feed their kids then? How bloody ignorant of you to say that

Cats out the bag now though. There's no way of hiding from it.

Ifonlyidknownthen · 10/07/2021 19:26

No, it's useless. I've never had the app and never would have

Trillogy101 · 10/07/2021 19:31

@wasthataburp what are you on about? Are you ok? Hmm

Faevern · 10/07/2021 19:35

Never had the app and I’m not the reason it’s spreading so fast, more to do with horse racing and football fans, and in two weeks all bets are off along with the masks. I was double jabbed ages ago, front line worker, so in a few weeks I won’t have to isolate, yet I’m sure the numbers will be higher. But let’s blame each other eh and not the shambolic handling of it by the government.

Perfectly fine thanks

ChocOrange1 · 10/07/2021 20:37

No, I am going on holiday (camping, outdoors with my household) on Wednesday and wouldn't want to lose my money.

I don't have contact tracing on anyway so its a moot point.

You literally started this post by spuriously blaming ‘each other’ and not the handling of it by the government Confused
Faevern · 11/07/2021 06:24

Ha, yes I did. Though it is the government’s handling that has allowed these mass gatherings. I meant these type of events are likely to spread the virus both further and more quickly, probably why they want to change the app.

LightAsTheBreeze · 11/07/2021 06:28

No, looked at app when it first came out to see what was on it then deleted it.

juliainthedeepwater · 11/07/2021 06:32

Honestly? I would probably isolate quite carefully for 5 days or so, then take a pcr and, if negative, pretty much go back to normal. I thought I was a bit of a dick for doing that but the responses on this have made me feel saintly!!

JanuaryEl5ieBill · 11/07/2021 06:37

No, I have in the past but wouldn't again. I've turned the contact tracing off but still check into venues and I've read they don't ping you for that, just by the distance contact tracing part.

Phone call from test & trace or symptoms in the house, then yes (despite having 2 small children and isolating cos of colds/teething more than a dozen times already)

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 11/07/2021 06:47

Nope. Not a chance. I don’t isolate for illnesses with tiny chances of death or permanent injury.

Too many people are still hysterical about Covid. Try SARS or MERS - now those would be worth risking annihilation of the economy (maybe) and all the excess cancer and other deaths that are coming. And the mental illnesses caused and/or exacerbated by isolation. And the damage to education and life chances for children.

Covid isn’t.

Sunflowergirl1 · 11/07/2021 07:14

I laughed when I saw a government minster claim there is no evidence of people deleting the app. Every one I know has now deleted it or switched it off.

@SpringRainbow "
If any of us got contacted by test and trace or we were notified by either the childminder or school then yes, we would isolate if we were required to."

I wouldn't even bother if the school sent our child home, which for some of their friends they are now on their 5th school isolation. The rules the schools seem to be using are far stricter and results in whole classes repeatedly being isolated. What is even more stupid is there is no legal requirement anyway for them to isolate when sent home so the 6th form are all busy going to the local pubs and posting pics!

Sparklingbrook · 11/07/2021 07:15

I would if I had contact tracing on but I don’t.
The App is very unreliable and not fit for purpose.

Warhertisuff · 11/07/2021 08:17

@ifonly4

I can't believe how many wouldn't isolate. I work with 200 children every day I can't distance from. Would any of you really thank me if I passed it on (as has happened between teaching staff and children)?
I think many people are more concerned by prospect of having to self-isolate than actually catching Covid
